Afternoon, men. Did Church with the girls, DW is at work, got dinner in the crock-pot and going out to snow blow the driveway. Had a mellow but fun evening last night watching Frozen with friends at our house and consuming excessive calories via snacks and homemade dips complemented by some beer. We had Blue Moon sampler pack and a Sam Adams sampler pack. Our friend also brought Blue Moon pounders. I haven't had a pounder since I was in college. And it wasn't a good beer back then I can assure you.

Howdy dads. Been away for a bit gonna try and go back and catch up. But first I need a bit of help.
DD13 has decided she is going to be a vegetarian now. UGH.
CJ what kind of food did yall make when yours decided not to eat meat anymore. I have tried to talk her out of it but its not helping, I am just gonna try to keep her healthy till she grows out of it.

Odd day, but what day isn't in KY? :rotfl: Got up and church was cancelled because of the cold so I hit the road to check the "vacation" :headache: house. Only 11 degrees when I left, got back this evening and it had gotten up to 52 today and any snow on west or south facing slopes is gone. Now in the next 24 hours we are going to drop to 6 below and not get above 15 until Wednesday. Crazy weather. With the forecast cold I'm passing on a meeting on Tuesday that isn't mandatory and I'm not presenting. I don't need 4 hours on the road in that kind of weather no matter how good the lunch would be. Heading west on Thursday for an evening meeting and back again Friday and will be glad to see January put in the books. Lets hope February is a little more normal.

Hey Cliff, a way longer response than you probably wanted but here goes.

I am no expert, I can just tell you what I did. My initial reaction was the same as yours, primarily around health concerns.

She decided to become a vegetarian about your daughters age. When she did do it, I accepted it was her choice but gave her some rules. First, I am a meat eater and will not change. Do not scold me for eating meat. Second, I will accommodate her as best I can but she needed to take some responsibility. That included things like sometimes making her entree while I took care of my pork chop and made the sides. She was in charge of her health by researching vegetarian diets finding things she should eat and making sure she had a balanced diet. Of course, I probably did twice the research making sure she got what she needed. We also did (and still do) go grocery shopping together where she planned what she was going to eat. Finally, it was her choice, if she wants to stop, no problems, no judgements.

The big thing with vegetarian is getting enough protein, calcium and taking in enough calories. Doing my research, I found good sources of protein/calcium include whole grains, lentils, beans, tofu, milk, cheese, nuts, seeds, and eggs. With the popularity of non meat eaters, there are a lot of choices out there to provide the diet she needs.

Typical breakfast was whole grain cereals with milk or occasionally eggs, usually scrambled with cheese. Peanut butter sandwiches were a staple for her school lunch but there are other things including fake meat sandwich stuff. Dinners depended a lot on what I wanted. Early on it was less of a problem. We do a lot of pasta and my sauces are meat based (meatballs, sausage etc) that could easily be separated when serving. I even made lasagne where one side was meat based and the other was vegetarian. That wouldnt work now because she is more militant (OK, aware). If I was doing a meat, pork, chicken etc., she would eat the fake meat stuff like chicken nuggets as her entree. Easy to do, just pop them in the oven. Sides were normally no problem. Risottos and rice dishes were also a hit since we both like them. Her diet did get me to eat more legumes and vegetables.

I told her doctor at the first visit after the decision and he made sure on check ups that her health was not affected. He also talked to her about nutrition. Why anyone would want to give up the joys of meat is still curious to me. It may be a phase or not. If not, dont worry, she can become a healthy young lady, after all, me veg head ran 48.6 miles a few weeks ago.

But this might be in your future&

PM me if you have any questions. I have to go now and fry up some bacon.

Safe travels and good luck.

The bubble burst on my unblemished coaching record, went 1 and 1 today to finish second in the tournament. The kids played great but I cause the loss in the game that we lost. It was a tight game and we had one of the terrible officials that we had yesterday. Today he even told me that he made a couple of calls against us and smiled as he told me. Unfortunately after another bad call with about a minute left, I voiced my displeasure to him and only him so he decided to give me a technical and we were only down 2 points at the time. Stupid move on my part and I told the boys after the game and told them how proud I was that they continued to fight right to the end.

Oh well, the head coach returns and I can sit down again.

First time in two years I've had to call into work. The roads were too treacherous. It was not worth going in to stand around, have crappy tips and get sent home extra early.

The highways were bad here this afternoon as well. I was very glad to get home and off the roads.

SWMBO goes through phases of that. It can be done and you can stay healthy if you do it properly. I like meat though.

Sounds like the official needs to be taken to the woodshed. You expect that sort of thing in college, but that is too young to start such nonsense.

stay safe and warm guys. I know what it is going to be like down here so I can only imagine up North.

Not a big Blue Moon fan, but I'll drink whatever anyone is buying. Do you add the orange slice?

My oldest is 12, but still no changes like this. Good luck.

That crazy KY weather. Surprised to hear that church was cancelled. We have not had that happen here. Safe travels.

Sounds like a Hochuli - referee taking the game away from the players. I can always live with a loss - not a terrible referee who has predetermined the outcome of the game.

Stay safe. No snow here.

I don't think I've ever heard of Church being cancelled:scared:, although I've never heard of school's closing before it even starts snowing until recently:crazy2: I guess after some people have sued over things like these, they would rather close then deal with all the bull:sad2:

That's what I said to DW on the way home. I've dealt with my share of bad referees over the years and if they are simply bad, you learn to deal with it. But when the ref is blatantly making calls against one team and laughing about it, I can only take so much. I knew we were in trouble when he went and sat on the other team's bench before the game started.

Watching Finding Bigfoot and they are in NJ, in fact I know the area in the Pine Barrens they are in, and I have a Piney friend that lives in that area:thumbsup2, Maybe this year my son' s cub scout den can go Sqautching:banana:

Happens quite a bit when you have to rely on warm temperature for snow removal like they do over here. Main road was clear but the side roads dont get much attention. Our city's plow is an F-250 with a blade on the front. Also many of the folks in Appalachia don't own good winter clothes, and many churches don't want to turn on the heat for two hours.

Morning guys. I'm so tired of these high winds and severe low temps.

Mark, praying your little bundle of joy comes soon!

Drive safe guys.

I'm not big fan either but I'll drink almost any beer if it's cold. Blue Moon is a poor man's Belgian beer. I'd much rather drink a Chimay or Hoegaarden, but I'll only pay that much if i'm the one consuming it. And I do not *** the orange slice. The only time I put fruit in my beer is when drinking my brother-in-law's Corona at the beach.

I am a big fan of good beer (micro brews and such), but I am in no way a beer snob. I will gladly consume "regular" beer.:)

MORNING MEN!

Another cold weekend ending in a Monday morning. I keep telling myself 3 more weeks and I'll be headed to the Dominican.

No school for the kids today, teacher education day.

DD's hoops team beat another team playing zone (don't get me started again) on Saturday 25-7. Good offensive output against a zone at this age. DD had 6 points and a bunch of rebounds. Was 2/3 from the foul line.:thumbsup2 Pretty proud of her improvement from the line, she has become our best foul shooter. DS ad 17 on Saturday evening in a 20 point victory. Played point guard due to our PG being away and also had 4 rebounds and 11 assists. A pretty good day.:cool1: On Sunday, he scored 10, 8 assists and 5 rebounds in a 30 point beating we took.:worried: The other team was really big and fast and we didn't play well as a team. We do get another shot at them this Saturday so we'll prepare during the week.

FIL came home from the hospital. His fever seems to be down and feeling better. Now my uncle could use some prayers. He has sclerosis (??) of the liver and had to be hospitalized to remove fluid rom his abdomen and lungs. Unfortunately, he also has prostate cancer so no chance t get on donor list for a new liver. Has to just keep treating the symptoms as they arrive and hope for the best.

That is all, carry on and have a good week.

Excuse me while I whip this out.

Great movie on AMC right now.

Watched parts of that with DS. I had to clearly explain to him about political correctness and why he could not repeat 95% of what he heard in public.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Just booked BWV for Dec. 14-18, wait listed for the 13th. That is the good news. The bad news is depending on taxes, I may have to cancel the RCL cruise. Will know sometime next month.

Good luck on getting the 13th.

Canceling the cruise may save you a stomach virus. Seems those bugs are going around the cruise ships again. I'm hoping our taxes will be enough to cover the August trip expenses. Flights on points, FD and resort 50% on points so we are doing well so far.
