This hasn't been the best of week for me lately...

Thanks for letting me share. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Tough week Don. Thoughts to you, your family and your BIL's family. I hope you all find peace. This is a good place to share, vent, brag etc., that is what we are here for.

My Grandfather on my Dad's side was a WW2 vet and a SeaBee as well. He never talked about it to me until one day I stopped over real quick to change a light bulb for him. That 10 minute visit turned into 3 hours. He told me story after story of the war and his experiences in life. It's a day I won't ever forget.

Great story. My dad was in on D-Day and my brother was in Viet Nam during the Tet offensive. Like your grandfather, neither talked about it until later in their life. All testaments to the sacrifice of those that serve our country.

Duuuuddde.... Don't show us your softer side. We ALL have visions of you as an evil, corrupt hooligan... here ya go bringing a tear to all our eyes. Curse You!!! Oh, and sounds like a very special memorable day. :thumbsup2

Sorry Brian...just a softy I guess. Gramps was a cool dude.

Hooligan? Nah.

Truly the greatest generation!

Thanks for the offer to open guys!! i should probably take you up on it and we can have a DisDads week, where a new Dad opens and offers a different special everyday!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We are actually feeling a little guilty about closing because it is a pretty busy time, but we really wanted to go during this time period so we are taking the plunge. Hopefully, soon I can keep it open with some of my new hires, but i still need to train them and create an atmosphere where I can step away a few days and the quality doesn't suffer.

now that would be awesome!!:yay:

Jello consumed and life is beginning to return. Hoping any Dads on the way to world avoid this bug. It only lasts about 24 hours but it is a looonngg 24.

Thanks, everyone, for the well-wishes.

A little update on our December trip to the States:

It's coming along little by little. I booked a rental car last night. Thrifty's Wild Card (hoping for a larger vehicle, such as a minivan) for three weeks at an estimated total of $1250 (that includes the rental fee for two car seats). Booked a hotel in Schaumburg for 11 nights for about $800 (before taxes). Not too worried about getting a motel in my hometown. Just have to find a good buyer's agent down near Chicago. Don't know a thing about buying a house, and I'm afraid about getting screwed.

On the job front, I applied for two positions at Rotary International over the weekend. Really hoping to hear back from them, but don't want to get my hopes up too much. Also planning on applying to a few office positions at some universities over the next week or two. It's really difficult to find a job when you don't know where you're going to live, and don't know when you're going to start living there...especially when moving across an ocean.

I'll be leaving this company three weeks from today. Don't have anything lined up here in Korea aside from teaching a few private classes and working a few classes for my current company. Going to make things pretty interesting, money-wise. On the plus side, I'll have a lot more time to help my wife with the kids, and get some things organized/ready for our trip (such as putting together two photo albums for the boys' first birthday, which is a huge deal in Korea).

Wooo Hooo.... Undefeated... All season!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Explain to Carl what that means :lmao:

Thanks, everyone, for the well-wishes.

Good morning :rotfl2:

We got some good news yesterday. Our agency confirmed that we can send small photo albums to our kiddos in Poland :cool1: this will be the first time they learn that someone wants to adopt them. We have thought of them everyday since we committed to them early this year, it chokes me up thinking that they will soon know they have a forever family coming for them soon.

:faint: Morning...

At least the Leafs have more wins then the Steelers now...:thumbsup2

One of the doctors said this of the trend of having pre-mixed alcohol and energy drinks that are available. "You have an energy drink with contains a stimulant mixed with another drug that is a depressant. What we end up with is intoxicated people who are very aware. Not a good thing."

Man, I hate the fact we carry these, that, along with the "Cold Shots", small cans of % beers are NOT what I call "socially responsible". :sad2:

Good luck Casey.... I know it's difficult to find a job locally, let alone from 1000's of miles away.
Will be praying for ya...

And on the other end if the spectrum...

Awesome news David. I'd suggest including a picture of me in the album, give those kids something to really look forward to.

Good news.

Yea, a sucker bet on my part. Much like when I took the bet from Norm that Florida would beat Louisville in the Sugar Bowl.

No one thought UL would win. I only made only the bet since you already owed me a beer for UK Florida basketball game. I figured double or nothing wouldn't cost me anything.

For some reason I can't quote anyone right now.

The session today on energy drinks was interesting, some good presentations from all sides of the issue. Luckily we haven't had to deal with it too much in the sports world here. There are a lot of kids drinking them but it doesn't seem to make its way in to the locker room.
."

I've tried Red Bull, but didn't care for the taste. I Have not tried the others and don't plan to let my kids. Youngest will drink coca cola on occasion, but that is about it.

This hasn't been the best of week for me lately. Haven't said much about it cause I'm trying to keep upbeat, but it's time I shared. Last weekend my mom's father (my grandpa) in Ohio passed away. His health had been declining for weeks and so this was not unexpected. The sad thing is he was not a well-liked man. He did not treat people nicely. I grew up around him and he was always grumpy and did not like kids. I never understood him. He was a WW2 vet as a Seabee and he never talked about it. Still don't know what he did or what he experienced. No services were held for him this week and he was cremated. Still haven't fully dealt with this. Probably won't hit me until I'm back in Ohio.

Next up... my BIL... my wife's sister's husband. He was diagnosed with throat cancer last Thanksgiving and was given only months to live. On Friday we got the call from my MIL that he was with hospice and they gave him about 48 hours to live. He's still hanging in there today even with all the drugs... cannot see... cannot speak. We will be traveling to Ohio to be with the family after he passes. But from what I am hearing from MIL it's not going to be easy as his side of the family is not accepting the fact that he is dying. Plus... one brother is in a lot of debt and is already trying to figure out how to get money from his dead brother. :confused3 Really sad... and also makes me angry at how his family is acting in his final hours.

To add to this, we have had reservations for months to go camping this weekend... something DD really looks forward to each year. Just been a roller coaster of emotions this week.

Thanks for letting me share. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Hey Don, sorry to hear about all this. I've come to quickly learn that this is a great group of guys who truly do care about one another. Share anytime. That said, please know I'll be praying for you and the family.

Of course, what jus wouldn't want to know their "uncle" controls the entire universe!!!

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for Del and his family. No news this morning yet, but as of last night he is still holding on. I hear he is resting better now and the nurses have stepped up and limited visitors to one at a time and for only 5 minutes each visit. Hopefully his family will take the hint here and finally understand he's really at the end of life here. Just need some peace.
