I forgot to mention.....19 days until we leave for the world!!!!

This is probably the worst time, business wise to go but we have never been to MNSSHP or Food and Wine. This will most likely be the only time we travel in Oct.

I cannot wait!!!!

Well here is an interesting turn of events. For those organizations here on post that have money allocated in 2013 but is carrying over into FY2014, they can keep their people working, and getting paid, as long as the money holds out. If someone is on overhead however, they are furloughed. That includes most supervisors and admins. So the high and low are getting the boot while most of those in the middle are staying put. Unfortunately, if you change to a leave status, ie, vacation or sick, you are furloughed. So unless things change in the next couple of days, I will be taking an unpaid vacation. Back pay is possible but who knows? could be worse but i feel bad for the Admins.

So your planned paid vacation is now an unpaid vacation?:confused3 Really? That sucks. Sorry to hear. Funny that in the non-government world accrued vacation cannot be taken away or lawyers get involved real quick. Hope someone with a little common sense resolves it within a few days before you head out.

Oh......and Epcot is 31 today!

I'm sorry you've got all this to worry about, but I'm glad you at least have your job for a few days anyway.

Personally, I think anyone in Congress who doesn't give up their pay while this is going on should be voted out in the next election. But hey, I'm just one vote. :rolleyes1

This hasn't been the best of week for me lately. Haven't said much about it cause I'm trying to keep upbeat, but it's time I shared. Last weekend my mom's father (my grandpa) in Ohio passed away. His health had been declining for weeks and so this was not unexpected. The sad thing is he was not a well-liked man. He did not treat people nicely. I grew up around him and he was always grumpy and did not like kids. I never understood him. He was a WW2 vet as a Seabee and he never talked about it. Still don't know what he did or what he experienced. No services were held for him this week and he was cremated. Still haven't fully dealt with this. Probably won't hit me until I'm back in Ohio.

Next up... my BIL... my wife's sister's husband. He was diagnosed with throat cancer last Thanksgiving and was given only months to live. On Friday we got the call from my MIL that he was with hospice and they gave him about 48 hours to live. He's still hanging in there today even with all the drugs... cannot see... cannot speak. We will be traveling to Ohio to be with the family after he passes. But from what I am hearing from MIL it's not going to be easy as his side of the family is not accepting the fact that he is dying. Plus... one brother is in a lot of debt and is already trying to figure out how to get money from his dead brother. :confused3 Really sad... and also makes me angry at how his family is acting in his final hours.

To add to this, we have had reservations for months to go camping this weekend... something DD really looks forward to each year. Just been a roller coaster of emotions this week.

Thanks for letting me share. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.
Sorry you and the family have to deal with this much at once, thoughts and prayers sent your way - hang in there.

I just read an interesting article about Molly yesterday. If you don't know who she is, you might want to read THIS.
Back when I started DJing, a lot for my friends were in the 'after hours' club scene. They'd go out at 11 and come home at 8 or 9am. That is when Ecstasy was really big... 97-2003. I never got involved because I was always working and couldn't stay out all night. I really enjoyed the music but I never enjoyed the 'scene'. Ecstasy pills contain MDMA while 'Molly', which can be in pill form, is most commonly sold as a powder. This so called 'pure' MDMA, or what is perceived as 'pure', changes hands numerous times before it ends up in a users hands. The user doesn't realize, or care, how many times the drug has been cut leading to a drug that in some cases is less than 10% of the original MDMA. In a lot of these cases that is when you will hear about people dying from the drug.

There is a lot of crap that is out there. The only way to keep your kids safe is to be in the loop and have an open, 2 way conversation with your kids about drugs, sex, and life.

Good morning.

Busy day yesterday at work, but that's a good thing. I guess.

Field work has come to a halt this week after the rain Sunday and damp conditions yesterday. We'll probably change the combine over from soybeans to corn sometime today since you can still shell corn if it is a bit damp out.

The rain is certainly a good thing though. Saturday afternoon, a cornfield near us caught on fire. Some irresponsible prick decided to toss a cigarette out the window. Thankfully the fire dept. was close and they only lost a few acres and were able to contain it. We take a 1000 gallon water tank with a pump and fire hose on it to the field with us "just in case" and had to use it Saturday. We were running beans and saw some black smoke from about a mile away. A neighbor of ours had a combine on fire. My cousin took our water trailer and put out the fire before it spread through the field, but the combine was a total loss. The crops are dusty this year, so hopefully this rain will help keep the dust and fire dangers down.
WOW.. hopefully the rain will help with the dry conditions.

Blah blah blah blah blah. Nonsense Nonsense, stamp stamp, (tantrum), blah blah blah blah blah. Opps, sorry, still had my governmentese translator on.:scared:
:lmao: :lmao:

Hopefully you get back to work before your vacation.

Sorry to interrupt this thread but... We Are on the MAGICAL EXPRESS!!

:drive:

Mmmmm… shrimp & grits.
The general amount of rambling in that post can only mean one thing: a very good evening must have been had.
.

Yes,, very good.

:

Indeed. Especially knowing that the building we are now working in used to be an actual hospital wing. They basically ripped everything out of all the floors and then remodeled it for IT spaces. Hard telling how many people died in this building. :scared:

Been in a building where the meeting room was the morgue. Spooky. And cold.

this past Thursday was her first Halloween party that she worked.

she is going to be working the next three out of five parties.

I might find her on Sunday.

Before the clock strikes midnight, I wanted to wish you a happy birthday, Norm. Just think...Disney is right around the corner!

Thanks.

Happy Belated Birthday Norm!

40 was not a good year. Started out the decade with a root canal and a crown and the other years added in bifocals, kidney stones and various other issues. But we are still on the green side of the sod so it isn't all bad.

Thanks.

I wonder if anyone will notice if I post pad at this hour. The Princess doesn't come in here and David won't be up yet. CJ could be making biscotti or scones at this hour though and waiting for Dunkin Donuts to open. :hourglass
ly.

Donuts. Mmmmmmm....

For some reason I can't quote anyone right now.

The session today on energy drinks was interesting, some good presentations from all sides of the issue. Luckily we haven't had to deal with it too much in the sports world here. There are a lot of kids drinking them but it doesn't seem to make its way in to the locker room.

Couple of interesting points that were brought up:

These drinks contain caffeine; caffeine is a stimulant but doesn't actually give you any energy. Seems they are misnamed.

The drinks often contain lots of sugar so if you are using them you have a high caloric intake. This means they can add to the obesity problems we have.

One of the doctors said this of the trend of having pre-mixed alcohol and energy drinks that are available. "You have an energy drink with contains a stimulant mixed with another drug that is a depressant. What we end up with is intoxicated people who are very aware. Not a good thing."

Hey Don... prayers for the family.

Unfortunatley what you just described, was a nasty, despicable topic that we ALL suffer from... it's called...

Family!

Prayers buddy.

My Grandfather on my Dad's side was a WW2 vet and a SeaBee as well. He never talked about it to me until one day I stopped over real quick to change a light bulb for him. That 10 minute visit turned into 3 hours. He told me story after story of the war and his experiences in life. It's a day I won't ever forget.

Duuuuddde.... Don't show us your softer side. We ALL have visions of you as an evil, corrupt hooligan... here ya go bringing a tear to all our eyes. Curse You!!!

Oh, and sounds like a very special memorable day. :thumbsup2

Wow. I thought the food that I bought miraculously appeared at the grocery store. Farmers are a special breed. Continued hopes that you have a good crop.

Sorry to interrupt this thread but... We Are on the MAGICAL EXPRESS!!

You are talking Disney here? Is that allowed?

Have a great time storming the castle. Oh wait, that was the last thread. Just have a great time.

I am sure a number of us would volunteer to fill in just to play with the new pressure fryer thing. Probably wouldn't be a good idea though.

That's for now, but it should be competitive all the way through. The loss of Wilfork will hurt a lot.:headache: Now they are talking about Gronk being out even longer, something to do with the doctor that cleared him. Apparently he' not a very good doctor. I thin we'll beat Cincy next week and then have a similar result with the Saints you had last night. I have the estimate at 11-5 for the Pats. A lot of tough games coming.

Of course a drink wager is in order. Shall it be the standard Dole Whips or are you fond of a New England option vs. a Miami beverage of some sorts. I still owe Randall from last years AFC championship, stupid Ravens.:mad: Will you be there in January? I am still hoping to get there. If not, we'll be back in August 2014 or I may actually be in the area some time soon to visit the wifes family.

Not sure NE will be favored. We have a LOT of injuries that just seem to keep adding up. We'll be lucky to field 46 active players soon.

Sure, try to sandbag me. You are sounding like Bobby Bowden when he coached at FSU. "We are really worried about The Little Sisters of The Poor University. Their quarterback may be 5 foot 8 but he runs a 20 second 40 meter. And their 150 pound defensive end will bite your ankles off."

Yes, I will be there in January. Get off your butt and commit to going. I only wager for adult beverages unless the other person does not imbibe. Not a fan of Miami drinks that have little umbrellas in them and I have no idea what the beverage of choice is in NE. Personal beverage of choice.

Yea, a sucker bet on my part. Much like when I took the bet from Norm that Florida would beat Louisville in the Sugar Bowl.
