Morning guys,

Breaking news in the world of college basketball. The 7 Catholic schools of the Big East are leaving the league and going out on their own. Why is this news? One of the schools is Seton Hall where my money goes to fund the education of my daughter.

Good for them. They were the "big thing" in the 80's but let too many football schools in.

Melody & I decided yesterday not to talk to Juliana about what happened yesterday. Then last night we thought we should talk to her about it on some level. We would rather have her hear it from us than from another child. I just got a call from DW...... On the way to CCD, our friends child, who supposedly didn't know either, blurted out on the drive how all these kids were killed in school yesterday. My DW told them we aren't talking about that right now and changed the subject. I' not looking forward to this talk.

It really hit us since we were so close to this tragedy and Juliana is in 1st grade, just like most of those kids were. Newtown is a small quiet town just like where we live. If it could happen there, it could happen anywhere.

Did you guys talk to your kids about this?

Not yet. Since we homeschool we don't have to worry about it being brought up by a fellow student. We plan on discussing it with them later today.

As a Georgetown grad, this makes me both happy and sad. I'll miss the Big East, but it's been going in the wrong direction for some time. Plus, it screws UConn, which always makes me happy!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Now if Kentucky would join a real basketball conference like the ACC then they would get crushed on a more regular basis :thumbsup2

That's pushing it a bit... but I can see where you're coming from... :rotfl2:

:lmao:

DD is just turning 5, and in preschool, so I'm praying that she doesn't hear of it there next week. We'll be relying on her teachers I guess to control the chatter. Not sure I know how to explain this one to her. Or anybody for that matter.

Just happened to talk to a friend who is a crisis counselor. A few of her suggestions:

Listen to your kids and how they are reacting. A key indicator is if they are sleeping normally or having trouble sleeping.

Don't bring it up or dwell on it but if they know about it (probably will have) and have questions/concerns, address them.

Leave the news off so they are not bombarded by the events.

Continue your normal routine. If they have soccer, dance or other events, go.

Let them know that school is safe, this is just one rare event.

Lots of hugs and other expressions of your love for them. Probably more for you than them. I called my kid probably 6 or 7 times yesterday.

Helpful, thanks for posting CJ. Def been stocking up on the hugs and kisses with the kids.

Hmmmm, Louisville left the Big East Conference for the ACC. So, I guess I now have one school in the best basketball conference and one school in the best football conference. Still defending National Champions.

Why wasn't Louisville in the SEC? What conference did they belong to in the 80's and early 90's?

Louisville started out in the Metro Conference, with University of Cincinnati, Tulane, Memphis, and some others. Then, they went to Conference USA with a few of those teams, and then onto Big East.

Good ole Memphis. I remember watching them when Penny Hardaway was playing there.

Afternoon Guys.

We made a batch of fudge so DW can give to some of teacher team-mates for Christmas and I just finished up bottling a batch of wine.

Up next heading to have a nice dinner with some good friends.

There there Duck, those are fighting words. Gators are number 5 in the country right now.

The B1G Ten raises it's hand as the best basketball conference....

Yes we do!

This year? What year? So, the defending National Champions are having a bad year. It is difficult to replace your starting lineup of NBA players. Are we going back to which NCAA men's basketball program is the best? Walk away. And yes, CJ, Florida had a good team last year and it looks like they have it going this year.

Hoosiers lose to Butler, what a game

Missed that but saw the end of the Nevada/Arizona game. Good way to start bowl season.

You also have Missouri in the SEC this year. If anyone thinks Kentucky is going away, not so fast. Looking forward to the UF/Arizona game tonight. That is if I can stay awake.

UK will improve, but they are not going to repeat like last Year's squad. They'll make some noise in the tournament.

hi all! looking to join the group, my name is Adam. I have twins, dd and ds, they are 12. I drive the dw and kids crazy planning our trips to the world. they say things like "oh brother he's at it again" or he's on the disboards again!!:rotfl: We are planning(hoping) for a chritmas time trip next year, never been for the holidays yet. we were looking at early december. My first trip was when i was 15ish?? in the early 80's. A total of 10-12 times. I know its bad that I'm not sure exactly how many times.?!?. well hopefully i pass the stringent acceptance policy of the dis dads. thanks.....:thumbsup2
Welcomes Adam. My twins are 4. I'm sure we have stories to swap. We're a pretty big tent. not only take in Canadians but we also accept Cheese Heads.
Car is packed and SWMBO is off to the vacation home :headache: in the morning.

Then it will just be the kids and I for a week. No more :teacher:and :beach: now it is time for some

The DAD will be in charge and enforcing some rules.
Crack that whip
So, my dds drew their own cartoon characters and had an elaborate story about them. The good guy characters turn into ninja cats with guns to defeat the evil scientist, Mr. brain, and laser beam eye.
I smell comic book and cartoon deal.
Breakfast is cooked and ate and no fires to put out
Well Done :thumbsup2
