I feel your Pain David, I've gotten used to the mid 70's and low 80's around here. High for today is close to 90. I ran yesterday afternoon, and it was wicked hot compared to 5AM. So I think I'm going to continue to run early morning, or at least prior to noon.

Matt

Yet another reason why I don't run. Or, get up early in AM.

Had a neighbor catch a combine on fire yesterday. You could see the smoke for miles. When those babies light up, they light up big time. Thankfully nobody was hurt and he didn't catch half the county on fire.

Never seen that before.

At least Disney still has ENGLISH speaking call takers. Still... I like the ability to sit at my desk and dream up 5 different scenarios and copy-and-paste numbers into my spreadsheet rather than having to go through all that with a live rep.

I originally planned all the DVC vacations for 10 years out on spreadsheets, using banking/borrowing options for all sorts of combinations. Spreadsheets are fun.

Only have PBR in 6pk cans, don't list the Schlitz, and the bpard no longer carries Milwaukee's Best, only it's worst (Old Milwaukee and Ice)

Whatever you're buying is good for me.

I would like to thank the Tortuga Cowboys for starting Cam newton over Colin Kapernick. :thumbsup2 .

I went 2-1 this week as well. Better start than last year.

Well, they were able to get the header off before it burned up too, so that probably saved them 50 - 100K, but I'd say you're looking at about $250K just for the machine. And now they're just hoping that John Deere can locate them another one to use that isn't already sold.

 Wow.

Well, I'm sure they'd be able to get a used machine to get them through the year if they have to, but considering they had just run a total of about 30 acres through a brand new one... :rolleyes1

Sounds like a defective unit to me! Any ideas for cause of the fire?

Don't have DVC to plan out, but I DO have a spreadsheet that tracks all my time off for the next 2 years :thumbsup2

He said a sensor light for the chopper came on. The chopper is on the very back of the machine... no way you can even see what is going on back there from the cab. He stopped to check it out and the thing was already burning.

The most common cause of a combine fire is a bearing goes out, gets hot, catches dust on fire. You've got hydraulic lines running all over the machine so a small fire anywhere can get big in a hurry. In this case though, there's about 200 gallons of diesel fuel sitting a couple of feet above the chopper.

Inside a plastic tank.

Engineering genius, if you ask me. :rolleyes1

Maybe you can come up with a better design and make a ton of $ and retire. :thumbsup2

Well, back in the day, they used bearings you could grease and steel fuel tanks and hydraulic lines. Now they use more sealed bearings, plastic fuel tanks and rubber lines.

They already know how to fix it. It would just be more expensive to make.

And here's what a time lapse of that fire might have looked like. Taken from Google...

Record high temps... gonna be fun. All we need is more hot, dry weather so that we can have field fires this fall. :headache:

I was just in Columbia City and they were putting out a field fire.

That's insane... for a brand new piece of equipment, too. I hope they had insurance to cover the loss.

As dry as it is right now, that is a huge concern. I don't know if you remember all the field fires back in 2011 around Indiana, but this year could potentially be worse. These guys had a neighbor who got a disk out and disked under all the chaff around the combine to keep the fire from spreading yesterday. If he hadn't been around, it could have gotten ugly the way the wind was blowing.

It's just part of it. :confused3 Seems to happen a few times every year. And it seems like it does tend to happen with new equipment almost as often or even more often than older stuff. We had a couple of small fires on ours in 2011. It was a dry fall, like this and dust would pile up around the exhaust manifold. Next thing you know, smoke... if we hadn't caught it when we did ours would have looked a lot like the pictures above. It never got to be too much to put out with a fire extinguisher, but we did burn some wiring during one of the fires. Couldn't even move the thing out of the field until we got a new wiring harness 2 days later. By the end of that fall, we were blowing all the dust off of every nook and cranny of the thing each night, and taking a 1000 gallon water trailer to every field with us.

They've got insurance. You'd have to be pretty stupid to start a combine up without having it insured.

What number are we on now? I'm 595, I gotta be somewhere off the junior board by now right? I mean, there's at least 750, that's. . .oh hell math. . .like at least 5 more guys right.

Sounds like you graduated from a KY school". We take our shoes off for that type of math. :lmao:

Great idea. I think I found a new project to kill work time.

O-3 again this year.

You're in Donald with me? Message me with a trade offer. I tried to get Ray Rice from Carl but no luck. He claims to be a Steelers fan but starts a Raven.

Engineering genius, if you ask me. :rolleyes1

Scary pictures. Does Jon Deere at least manufacture in the USA? Or, did they send their jobs to Mexico and Canada like other "American" car companies?

Not a very happy camper right now. I am only in the door for about 5 minutes and my wife hit me with this..
wife: hey I was thinking.Instead of going to Disney in Nov why dont we go to Canada.
Me : say what??
Wife: Yea my cousin is getting her baby baptized and I think may we could go.We have never been there.
me: yea there is a reason we have never been there it s Canada those people are crazy( just kidding I made this part up to fire up my Canadian friends :) )

So now I might be losing out on Disney in Nov for Canada.
