We found out that my wife's best friend of the past 20 years' daughter died in a car accident the night before last. She was 16 years old. It is so heartbreaking. We will be driving down to College Station this afternoon so we can be with them this weekend, since we can't miss work Tuesday for her services. Please pray for their family - I can't imagine having to go through that.

My prayers go out to their family and to the boyfriend who will have to live with that for the rest of his life. It is so saddening.

Prayers, really hits home with DS just turning 16 and DD going off to college. Can't imagine what the families are going through. Safe travels and again prayers to all.

She was riding with her boyfriend, who was bringing her home. They got off the highway and were on the feeder road when her boyfriend saw a bunny rabbit in the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the rabbit and strayed off the road toward a ditch. He jerked the steering wheel the other way to try to get back on the road and over-corrected. They shot across the road and the car rolled down in a ditch on the other side. He survived and is really torn up about it. My wife's friend is so strong through this and keeps consoling him.

My take from all of this is to just hit the damn animal. No sense risking the lives of yourself and/or others in the car to save the life of an animal that shouldn't be in the road in the first place. I may have swerved also in his situation, but I learned this lesson in a hard way.

Thoughts and prayers out to your friends.

That is terrible. I don't know why they don't push that more when they teach driving. Sooo many accidents because of swerving to miss an animal.

Prayers sent.
Thoughts and prayers. When I taught driver's ed back in the day we taught kids not to swerve for furry critters.

Good lord…
Prayers are offered, but even that just seems so inadequate. I can’t begin to imagine what something like that would do to me, but I’m pretty sure what it would do to DW.

Paying $14K in advertising bills with the Disney card today. $280 more Disney Dollars for August.:cool1::cool1:

Excellent!
We use ours as regularly as possible, but not owning my own business (or being in a position to cover authorized expenses for someone else’s for that matter) we can’t pick up DisBucks quit as quickly as that. The mortgage payment would have been a good opportunity to get some decent regular points, but our lender won’t allow you to do it with any type of CC… not even one of their own.

Our mortgage company won't either.

This is one of the benefits of working for a small company. I get to use my personal card for a lot of stuff like this that helps build up the points. I use it for most advertising we do. The points add up pretty quickly.

Now that our Chase Disney debit card doesn't rack up Disney Rewards any longer, I want to get an American Airlines or Southwest Airlines rewards card. Then just pay EVERYTHING with it instead of debit (and just pay it off every month.) That way we can at least be earning some mileage points instead of nothing.

And this is why i dislike this village i live in.

From a meetings minutes:

ORDINANCE ENFORCEMENT
Chairman Olsen asked Chief Wickstrum for the spreadsheet detailing the ordinance enforcement that he requested after the last meeting. Chief Wickstrum explained that he did not do one. Chief Wickstrum explained that he saw in the Public Works Committee minutes that there is an issue with grass clippings being blown into the street, which is causing a problem for the storm sewers. Chief Wickstrum explained that they are paying closer attention to that now. Discussion also held on who can enforce ordinances in regards to public works issues. Ordinance 22-2 was reviewed. Clerk Waege will verify with Attorney Bill Henderson. No action was taken.

(i bolded the words)
Now if the one supposedly enforcing ordinances is not following directions from the one making the ordinances, why are we to follow them?

I have the Southwest card. I think they are offering the 50K points right now. That was why I pulled the trigger. Got all 4 of our August flights for just under the 50K bonus points. I use the disney mostly for work and the SW for personal. That way we can use both towards our trips. While the Disney card allows you to use it towards the flights, I found the points to be more more advantageous financially.

It’s good that they’ll work together with you to allow a decent perk like that.

I also noticed that (assuming I did the math right), that your were anticipating 2% on the payment. We only get 1% so I was wondering if you have a different Dis-Card or if it’s a different plan of some type. Maybe a “platinum” (or some such metallic description) vs a regular Visa account (which is what we’re carrying right now)

That “EVERYTHIG” route is how we use ours. Well… normally. With this last trip we put the balance (no small sum) on that card to pick up those points before leaving. We have six months to get it back down to zero before interest is charged (which we’re well on the way to accomplishing), so for the time being, it’s back to the debit card and checks when necessary. Once that balance is at $0 again, we’ll convert back to “Charging” everything that would otherwise have been a cash transaction and then paying it right back down to zero before the billing cycle ends. You just have to stay on top of it to prevent the interest charges from kicking in (which would basically nullify any potential Dis-Buck gains). We keep a separate card (with a might better interest rate) for emergencies.

John, we have both Southwest and Disney CC. We use whichever one we need at the moment. If we need a flight we use SW, if we're going to Disney we use that card... and then, if we need a flight to go to Disney, we go shopping! :lmao:

All I have to say is that I'm working too #@*^ hard today for someone who is on his last day before vacation. TODAY IS SUPPOSED TO BE EASY!!!!!! :furious: :furious: :furious:

Yeah. What he said. I have the premier signature card and only get 2% on a few things like gas, groceries, and restaurants.

We have the Premiere card. The agency we use qualifies at the 2% category. not really sure why, but we always get the 2% and when I called Chase to verify, they said yes the were a preferred category. They do marketing, but also have a lot of other businesses as well. It must be due to the other businesses that all fall under the same umbrella. Best of both worlds.:thumbsup2

I always have to work up until the deadline as well. No way around it. Just keep telling yourself it gets better in a few hours.

Nope. Had the regular and then switched to the premiere. See previous post. Not really sure why it qualifies, but I checked the points since we have had the card and it accrues at 2% for these transactions. For whatever reason they fall into the Chase 2% category. Didn't argue with them about it since the only outcome would be less points for me. We used to use an Amex with similar point benefits and always got 2% from there as well, but I can't use those points at Disney:-) so we started using the Chase.

Yes, I know. We have a lot of cards. We use them based on the best payback and pay them off every month.

I use Southwest visa for all business expenses (own travel costs and then get reimbursed) and as many family expenses as possible and pay it every month. SW points do not expire plus they have other benefits like Companion Pass which when earned allows a designated person to fly with me for a year free - no points needed so DW flies for free everywhere I fly. Have not paid for a SW flight in years for personal use.
