I put lights around our house... no contest in the 'hood, though. Just white C9's (haven't switched to LED's yet... but probably should as it saves $$.) The biggest pain (and time) is attaching clips to the gutter so the lights have a "uniform" appearance. DW likes it that way... so I comply. ::yes::

:rotfl2::rotfl2: I know what you mean with DW. We got the LED lights on sale and they are colored. The first question she asked when she saw them was, "But we are putting the white lights on the trees right?":sad2:. At least she didn't make me take them down and put the white ones up.

I do believe , norm holds that power! Haha
I fully agree, I'm joining that boat, I'm waiting for DDs future school system to put out next years schedule before I can go forward with oct DL plans, well also waiting on that 7month window and my dvc contract to be finalized but that beside the point lol the schools need to have this stuff figured out so us dads can make Disney plans or we just go rogue like norm lol

I keep seeing that a lot of school systems have an October break. I wish we had one here. I would be there every year and that would push us over the edge and into DVC.:thumbsup2 We only have Xmas, Feb and April vacations and those are the busy times. DS is in 7th and we agreed no pulling out once we got to middle school.:sad2:

We have gone rougue for the last 5 years and got nice (not really) letters from the principle explaining that we are hurting our children by removing them from school to go to DW. I explained they will get more out of a week with family in DW than they miss in a week of school and that didn't go over well.:headache:

I probably should have taken advantage of the weather to do the same, but I just can't do Christmas lights until after Thanksgiving...

Oh. They don't go on other than to test that they are working. We usually light them on Friday after Thanksgiving. Just thought I would do it in the nicer weather for a change, especially since I was already on a ladder(with the knee still recovering, who knows if I can do it twice). The LED's slow down the meter that usually spins like a frisbee when the lights go on. We also put the lights onto a remote so we can switch them on and off from inside the house.:thumbsup2

Thanks again for lunch last week.

Great. A new pic for my dartboard, Nemesis. Good to put a face on all the nemie stuff. Sounded like a great meet. I need to work out going to a game at Fenway next year.

I don't drink coffee but people I know hate the stuff they sell at Disney. When I was a DL, we went into Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe which is their "Starbucks" location. Other than a discreet signage you would't know it. It was also well themed. I'm sure (or hope) they will do the same on Main Street and keep a lot of the Bakery's food offerings.

They let you have sharp objects?:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Absolutely will find a time for a game. We'll have to all wear something so all the dads can see us in the highlights on ESPN. It will take the whole "pics or it didn't happen" to another level.

I don't drink coffee either, but DW did not care for the coffee so I had to jump in the car and head to DD just off property a few times. We bought the box and she was able to make iced coffee in the room. The cinnamon rolls were our early EMH breakfasts. Hopefully they keep them.

Not thrilled about this either, but Starbucks has zero appeal to me, I don't really like coffee. :crazy2: DW really enjoyed spending the last hour of the EMH sitting there enjoying an icecream-cookie sandwich while I run around getting rides in. We'll have to see what changes are made.

What I can't figure out though, is why change an institution like the Bakery?

I wouldn't worry about it. Based on DCA, you will still have the Bakery only now it will add some Starbucks crappy coffee and some other treats. That being said Starbucks is better than the swill being served now.

Thank goodness this is a short work week. Boss has decreed that to save $$ we shorten the night shifts by one staffer. Never mind that:

1) 80% of the day staff leave things for the night shift to finish, it might interrfere with gossip/talking/milling about

2) He adds more tasks to the nights, since apparently he thinks all customers go home at 6 (In reality, we do almost 1/2 the business for the day in the last 4 hours) so there is nothing to do.

3) Half the people who works nights are on modified work, meaning you have to cover for them to begin with.

What the beverly......
So... is the move to a new store happening, and if so, how soon? :confused3

I have a few colored LED's that I use, but I wish we had stayed with the old kind for a number of reasons.

First of all, we got the white LED lights to use for our icecicle lights on our front porch awning one year. They looked more like a bright blue and DW absolutely hated them.

The next year I bought some colored LED's to use around the gutters on the house and we put our old normal white icecicle lights on the front porch. The colored LED's look much better than the white ones, but here's my biggest complaint... you pay more for the lights, but they still have those paper thin wires that short out and break relatively easy. Every year I have to replace a few strings because one section shorts out. I'd rather replace the old kind for a couple of dollars per string and deal with the added electric expense for no longer than they're on.:confused3

Starbucks wants as many people as possible to walk right past their shops.
And I can assure you that's just what I'll do... :thumbsup2

And let's call this a save our Main Street ownage.

Floridians can't count but we are allowed sharp objects. I think it is in the State Constitution.

Yeah I can count... I count all the time how many people I wish to recommend to the no admittance list for WDW... Hmmmmm

Everybody knows they grind up the bones to make their bread. Or maybe that's Ogres. Or Giants. Whatever.

David - good luck on the adoption. I'd lend some advice, but DD's adoption was completely different so there's probably not a lot I can help you with.

I've tossed my two cents out over on FB regarding Starbucks. As Stopher pointed out, the location was set months ago and just released last week. Disney, Starbucks and I'm sure an armada of corporate lawyers sat down to hash out just what type of signage/menu/location/foot traffic/etc each place would get. Look at the two that have been announced so far - the bakery and the Fountain View ice cream shop in Epcot. Right in the middle of the main traffic areas in each park. Starbucks wants as many people as possible to walk right past their shops. I have faith that the Imagineers make the signage tasteful and unobtrusive - unless the Starbucks corporate lawyers make them do it otherwise.:sad2:

Thanks Barry. Even though it may have been different I may hit you up for advice anyway.

I probably should have taken advantage of the weather to do the same, but I just can't do Christmas lights until after Thanksgiving...

I'm with you Paul - we were tempted to go ahead and get things out and just not turn them on. But we decided against it.

That would be a huge violation of our no Christmas till after Thanksgiving policy and my DD's would definitely have reported it to us! :rotfl2:

You could have blamed it on the labour union. :lmao::cool1: Due to new safety regulations, construction on holiday decorations is prohibited when the temperature falls below 35 degrees. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Just like the castle! Who could argue with that. I guess you'll have to avoid DW from September through Thanksgiving.:thumbsup2

Only hung the gutter lights since I was cleaning them anyway. We let the kids do the rest.

That's what I'm here for. :thumbsup2

Well, that and to pass on your questions to DW, so she can give you the correct answer and help you clean up whatever international incident you may have caused by following my advice. :rolleyes1

Are you sure you're not Canadian? I see an extra "u" in "Labor" up there....:furious:

Lunch was great, lets do it again soon! :thumbsup2

I'm good with it as well if all they're changing is the drink/food served, as much as I will miss some of the bakery servings...

Between me and Norm hijacking the cruise ship and your advice I may have my photo in every post office between here and China :lmao:

.

When I started, I put up lights on the gutters, one of the roof peaks, and two 10 foot tall candy canes made from white, flexible PVC pipes over a wood frame and red duct tape with a big spot light on them. A big ole redneck Christmas. Over the years, as the strands of lights died, I just gave up on them. Currently, I no longer hang any lights.

Yes, just your picture. I plan on sailing on to sea while they interrogate you. I guess I should have saved those details for after the mutiny.

Hold fast. Many will try to break you.

Yeah I can count... I count all the time how many people I wish to recommend to the no admittance list for WDW... Hmmmmm

DO you have that power?

Floridians can't count but we are allowed sharp objects. I think it is in the State Constitution.

If not, there is sure to be referendum for it.

What I find funny about this is people not wanting branding on Main Street and yet it has been there for years, including the bakery.

My thoughts as well.

Just go rogue. I'm probably not the best to consult on following the rules. I'm far too innocent to be consider dangerous, but I follow my set of rules. Thus, if the school board can't answer my question when fall break will occur, then I am planning by last Year's schedule.

I never had the turkey leg at Disney, seems to much work with the bone things to try to eat around. The Shank is big enough for two. A very big chunk of MEAT! It falls off the bone. They did a wonder job of seasoning that gave it a great flavor. For $8 well worth it.

I had the turkey leg once. It was dry. I don't get them anymore.

I keep seeing that a lot of school systems have an October break. I wish we had one here. But, we start 2nd week of August and go to end of May or into June with snow days. There is a trade off. We definitely can't miss pajama day, movie day, or whatever other garbage day they can dream of to get more Federal funding for student attendance.

I wouldn't worry about it. Based on DCA, you will still have the Bakery only now it will add some Starbucks crappy coffee and some other treats. That being said Starbucks is better than the swill being served now.

the Disney coffee would have been good too if there was milk, sugar, creme, chocolate, and whatever else the add at Starbucks.
