Unfortunately, yes. They shoot the fireworks off of a pier in Lake Michigan which is at the base of a 40' bluff - you know, the one Madison rode her bike off of. Couple that with 12 blocks of century old oak trees and there's no way we can see that from the house. Besides, we Evan and I played catch on the beach while we waited, then sat on the water's edge watching the fireworks paint the sky and reflect off the water as a blood orange moon rose rose behind them. Aside from the traffic and a lack of soundtrack, it was a wonderful night.
I guess it was worth the drive then. :thumbsup2

I'm not. That means the trip will be over. :sad1:
Sorry, I didn't mean for that comment to be a downer. Let me rephrase it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the kids react to the surprise... and to see who catches on first and when.

Had an interesting 4th yesterday. Woke up at 5:30 thinking it was Saturday since I wasn't going to work. Started scrolling through the email on my phone (I'm on-call for work) and didn't see the system generated messages that I was supposed to see on Saturday morning. Peanut Butter and Beverly, the system is going haywire again. So I stumble out of bed, grab my laptop and open it up. Then I realize I can't see because I don't have my glasses. After I find them, I fire up my connection software, then realize it's Wednesday. :headache:

So it's not even 6am, no one else is awake, and it's already 80°. What else is there to do but hop in the pool. I laid on a floating mat for about 30 minutes just enjoying the "cool" part of the day. As soon as the sun started peeking out over the garage, though, I knew we were in for a scorcher.

Racine hit 102° yesterday and I was out standing at my grill. (Seriously, you should taste what comes off of that thing. It's outstanding.:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:)

Fireworks were at the beach 12 blocks from my house. The show was good, but there was no soundtrack. :sad1: Disney has spoiled fireworks for me for ever.

We drove down, just in case we needed an A/C break while waiting. With all the traffic and pedestrians, it took us 30 minutes to get the 12 blocks home.

And now my 7yo and 5yo are in the car with DW's parents, heading up north. Bambi, the baby and I will be joining them after work tomorrow. Anyone want to guess what kind of sugar-high they'll be on when we find them?

It was definitely a scorcher yesterday. We not only did the 2 hour parade in the morning, but also went over to the fireworks display in Itasca where they did a phenominal job. First of all the fireworks were choreographed to music, and to top it off, they were able to incorporate some Zeppelin, Beatles, Lee Greenwood & Neil Diamond in their score. (It was an amazing mixture of music that really worked well). Additionally, prior to the fireworks there was a band called 7th Heaven (I had never heard of them before) who were really good and played a wide variety of music covering recent top 40 to classic Styx, Zeppelin, and everything in between. One of the weirdest mashups I've ever heard was last night when they mixed Eminem's "Lose Yourself" with Zeppelin's "Kashmir". Trippy how smooth it was going between the 2 songs.

Welcome to the new Dads, prayers for those in need, especially for those in need of power and/or rain.

Last sighting of Emma's Dad... He was drunk on home brew riding Millennium Force in Sandusky Ohio.

Ah yeah, lucky guy. I forgot he was on the road.

Triple digit heat, home brew and big @$$ roller coasters make a heck of a combination.

In case Nick doesn't get back to answer, the restaurant is called Mad Millie's. I don't recall the type of food however.

I think they specialized in "broasted" meals, if I remember correctly. And it was in Uxbridge, Ontario.

Thanks for the plug fellas!!

Nick... long time no see.

You ever finish your Trip Report? :lmao:
Ah yes.......TR I vaguely remember of what you speak......SQUIRREL!!!!

Don - he's due to head back home tomorrow. I'm thinking Saturday he'll login and try to catch up. :thumbsup2

No worries, I was just playing.

We are getting anxious just to be back at Disney. My little one just ran up to me, saying "When we get back I want to do this" it was cute.

:lmao: We finally found someone who made Don look fast!

Sorry, I didn't mean for that comment to be a downer. Let me rephrase it.

Oh, I know. I just know how fast these things go by.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the kids react to the surprise... and to see who catches on first and when.

Me too! :goodvibes

That does sound like a strange mix. But hey, as long as it worked.

Thanks for the plug fellas!!

:thumbsup2

One of these days, we'll make it up that way.

*shudder*

They don't know about any of it yet. We've told them they're going on a "surprise vacation" this year. If they keep asking, I tell them it's Newark, NJ. :thumbsup2

The plan is to pack up the van and start driving. DW wants to give the kids highway maps and see if they can follow where we're going along the way. When we pull up to the beach house in Pawleys Island, our friends will already be there. So we'll act as though the "surprise" is that they get to spend the week at the beach with the kids. At the end of the week, we make like vacation is over, and then turn south instead of north. Then we'll see how long it takes them to realize we're in Florida and heading to...well, you know.

That's absolutley brilliant Mark :thumbsup2

Where's the vomiting emoticon when we need one :confused3

Yup and fish and chips. We are in uxbridge and called Mad Millie's. It would be cool to have a DisDad in the restaurant!

I think it's cool you own your own restaurant. Cooking is one of the few talents I have, with the others being eating & drinking. I would like to visit your restaurant one day? How far are you from Niagara Falls? DW wants to visit there one year.

My Mac is about 7 years old as well and my kids needed a computer so... The only logical answer was to buy ME a new one and give them the old one. I rebooted it and reinstalled everything and it is running like new. More expensive in the beginning but I feel I have gotten my money's worth out of it over the period of time it lasts without issues.

Of course that was the only logical solution.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the kids react to the surprise... and to see who catches on first and when.

Mine were excited, but not overwhelming expression I was hoping for. Good luck.

Someone needs to change the name of that town. Creepy.

Don's supposed to be installing my kegerator.

We are getting anxious just to be back at Disney. My little one just ran up to me, saying "When we get back I want to do this" it was cute.

Us to. Constantly planning WDW trips makes the world better.

Although, it sounds like you are a lot closer than I. Hey, can you get me a real good paying job there? My qualifications are zero, about as much as my effort.

Only one word can describe this weather we're having - INFERNO! This was the least enjoyable 4th that I can remember. DW's dance studio is in a local parade every year and had her biggest turnout ever with 58 kids showing up. So worrying about the health of the kids in the 100 degree heat while trying to consume my normal amount of beers on the sideline and watch over DD1 was quite stressful :rolleyes1

On top of that DMiL's A/C went out which is where our 4th parties are every year. We were able to fix it but it never really got below 82 in the house (after hearing the plight of some East coast dad's I will stop complaining about this). Thankfully it is working good for her today. The food was good as was the company.

I really don't like be back at work today but have a few loose ends to tie up before heading out on vacation on Saturday. We had considering cancelling due to the new about my dad but we really don't know anything yet and may not until late next week. Dad would be very upset with me if I cancelled our trip and both my mom and sisters have relayed that message to me. So we'll try to relax and enjoy some family time and keep our fingers crossed for good news on the homefront.

All this talk about liquor has me thirsty. I may have to partake in something to get me through mowing the lawn in triple digit heat this evening.

Not long after Ryder was born and DW's parents were staying with us. Then her grandmother came for a day. THAT is a day that I was happy to be at work.

I may give you the inlaws, but I can stay completely drunk at home to cope with them. At work, surprisingly, drinking is discouraged.

They don't know about any of it yet. We've told them they're going on a "surprise vacation" this year. If they keep asking, I tell them it's Newark, NJ. :thumbsup2
.

Tell them you are returning for extra hydrogen in Louisville water. Hope you can get them with the trip.

Normally, I would agree but the office has AC. I just don't care to get anything done today.

Yes, the AC at the office would definitely be the reason to leave home. With this heat, i might be tempted to just move mine in at night and leave early in the AM before others get here.

Well being only having a little bit of time there I have no real pull anywhere. I did get to know a few people room assignment managers at other resorts, construction updates, etc. Nothing about in parks except what you can read, I may have a day ahead notice if that.

If its all the same to you, we will just pretend you have more power than you do. That way we can walk into the deluxe we do not have resi's at and say "oh yeah, well I gotta guy who works here!"

:lmao::lmao:

Interesting. These are the same qualifications you listed when you asked to be my assistant. :lmao: It's good to see you are so versatile.
