So… It seems that I have an excursion in the offing in about three weeks. Wish I could say we were heading toward Florida, but nope; not this time. Going north-ish instead up to the Dayton OH area for a competition.

:car:

As there may be some opportunities for a side trip or two, would any of you fellas up in the original “North West Territory” care to suggest anything that just needs to be experienced? We’ll probably head up via I-77 (through WV) and US-35 across OH, but the tip back home could be more convoluted.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Anything just too quirky to be missed?
Whacky roadside attractions or hole-in-the-wall dinners?
I might as well have a little fun with this trip.

:cool2:

If perchance y’all remember me, ya’ know I use to be a regular around here. My employer, however, has decided that the situation calls for a marked increase in the level of beatings doled out until moral improves noticeably. Needless to say…
It’s been a rather miserable couple of weeks. I think I see a little (make that itsy-bitsy tintsy-weintsy little) bit of day light, but I’m not sure I ought to admit that out loud. I don’t want to bring down additional wrath upon my head and end up having to endure continued beatings. Obviously, I’ve missed a lot but I do see a number of very fine things are happening right about now.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that, Rob. I know workplace woes all too well. Wish there was more I could do than just sympathize.

Just popping in to say hi, and see what page y'all are up to.

Hi stopher! :wave2:

So I mentioned before that I have a conference in May in Orlando, a few miles from WDW. Today I got the bright idea to try and get DW to come along for before it starts and spend a couple days in WDW, just the 2 of us. Seeing as we'd only need to pay for her airfair and 1 night hotel, the costs isn't too bad... Now if we can only find someone to take the 2 rugrats for a couple days...

I like the way you think! :thumbsup2

Well, I don't know how interested you'd be in the football Hall of Fame in Canton, but if you remember from my TR...

This restaurant has their own X-Wing Fighter.

That's one of the best parts about having DW's parents and sister in town. We can usually unload the kids on them for a few days. Can you do that?

It's possible. DW's parents are taking them the weekend before though, for a wedding we are heading to out of town, so it may be a lot to ask... My sister has 3 kids though and may not mind adding 2 for a few days...

The Air Force museum in Dayton is phenomenal I hear :thumbsup2

It's close enough to Indy we might be able to arrange a meet :rolleyes1

Oh I remember it and a part of me considered it, but Canton may be a might too far off course for this trip. Good thought though and certainly the type of thing I’m looking for.

It must be time to hit the “Road Food” blog/site.

Oddly enough… I’ve actually been to Write-Patterson AFB and it most certainly is phenomenal. I could easily do that side trip again though.

As for the thought of continuing on toward “Indi”. That’s not out of the question and the notion of a meet of some type is also a fine idea that make’s me consider the possibility just that much more.

It will kind’a depend on just how well the kids do at the WGI Nationals. If they make it through both prelims and simis to get into the finals (which is most defiantly what they’re working so hard for) than I may only have a little bit of a Saturday to kick around. If things don’t go as well, I could have more time (I’d be a smidgen depressed, but I’d have more time).

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 And I think you guys get the award for the most interesting meet location yet! I'm sure there are plenty of dads here that haven't taken that train ride yet :rolleyes1

Excelent! I’ll holler back later on with some more specifics and we’ll see what the possibilities might be.

Nice…
Being as that particular story was in the theaters when I was still a young’en, I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for that one.

falling behind further and further each day it seems...

:rotfl2::headache::rotfl::scared1: I don't really know how to feel about that!! :confused3

And yet I am a Grandpa! My wife is my second wife.. Which is 36 is a step-grandma. Is not at all thrilled when I call her grandma! Don't know why :confused3

what 36 year-old wouldn't want to be a grandma?? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Only 1 more day. This has been a long week. I get home tomorrow, soccer practice with youngest, oldest has dance class, and then we get in the van and head to Hilton Head. This week has seemed extra long, probably because of the pending vacation, 150 miles, and 11 hour days. I will get the new BWV check and contract out tonite, pack, and be ready to go.

Have a great time! (I'm a little behind, so you're probably gone by now)

Tonight I'm ordering Bigfoot shirts for myself, my wife and my son:lmao: Why:confused3 I want to do a experiment when we go to VA and see how many people comment or tell us a Bigfoot story:rotfl2: If response is good we might wear them at WDW at a rope drop and maybe get picked:confused3 Got to come up with something that sticks out:banana:

:rotfl2: good luck!

hey ron, a few years ago briana and i took the keys to the kingdom tour. we were the first tour of the day. we had got there early and there was a cast member standing by the turn stiles. she was there to let the tour people ( train tour, key to the kin. tour) into the mk. she told us we could go in and head over to town hall to register. so we did. the cm who we registered with said we can go for a walk, nothing was open and you could only go up main street and up to the castle. so we did, there was nobody around. we get up to the hub and there is a cm in the fire engine truck, she said good morning to briana and i and asked us if we would like to be the family of the day!!!! we would have gotten to open the park!!! one problem, the tour started at 8am and the park opened at 9am. we had to decline. not to mention, tammy wasnt with us. so theres maybe an angle you could try. first thing adr or first tour, head to the hub and see if theres a cast member in one of the little cars floating around and say good morning!!!!

that would be our luck, to be offered FOTD when we have somewhere else to be! :rotfl2:

Remember the firend of mine from work, taking his whole family to WDW, who I tried to help, and didn't really want the help. He said he was going to let the "girls plan it all, so he doesn't get blamed".

Well, guess what... ;)

He called me this morning at 10:00 am...

Him: Hey Brian, what was the name of that Steakhouse you said to try?
Me: Ummmm, Le Cellier?
Him: Yeah, that's it. Where is it?
Me: In Epcot, I thought you said the girls made a reservation there.
Him: I thought so to, but they didn't
Me: I doubt you'll be getting in there. So how's your trip so far?
Him: Great, yesterday we went to "The Magic Kingdom" (Yes that's exactly what he said). Today we are going to Hollywood Studios
Me: It's 10:00 am, do you know how fastpasses work yet?
Him: Yeah, we used one yesterday
Me: Well within an hour all the TSM fastpasses will be gone, and you will have to wait minimum 90 minutes standby. And does your 6 year old grandson like Star Wars
Him: Yeah, he loves it.
Me: Well, if you don't sign up for Jedi Training quickly he won't get in there either.
Him: They are still sleeping, we had a late night last night it was EMH
Me: Do you like firework type shows?
Him: Yeah, it was awesome last night
Me: Make sure you go see Fantasmic! tonight, it's a one of a kind show like you've never seen before. For that you should be there 90 minutes early.
Him: I don't know if the girls want to see that, they saw it last night.

:sad2:

Me: Ok, have a great trip, tell me all about it when you get back.

I hate saying "I told ya so..." and I am sure he will have a great time...but for the 15k it is costing him to take his whole family, children and grand children... I think (seriously) taking a few pointers wouldn't have hurt.

Oh, and he's been using all his counter serve credits in the resort food court. - but he does say the food is awesome. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I'm sure there is a saying to use here...

you can lead a horse to water...? :confused3

or ron burgandy would just say, "When in Rome..."

So anything going on in the neighborhood? Seems I go away for a day and babies are born. Congrats to Barry and Bambi. Hang on Ryder, it is going to be a fun adventure.

In New York and the W has great wifi. Will try to post some pictures later. Visited St. John's this morning. The Pirate Princess was meh about it. Seems the boys are the smart nerd type she has at her High School. Actually the biggest factor with her was it is a small campus with a lot of students that commute. Did see the BB arena which was neat (for me, not her).

Canceled Seton Hall visit for tomorrow and instead she will be going there on a sleep over with a student host on Sunday. The Pirate Princess might actually become a Pirate.

I missed NY. Then we went out for dinner last night and after I got the bill, Miami is looking better. That and I froze my behind off on the tour during a "nice day" here. NY is great place. Still miss it but probably would not move back.

still trying to catch up...

My boss took his first trip to Disney a few weeks ago with his young kids. Before he left he was looking for some pointers. I told him to be careful about getting me started talking about Disney! :rotfl2:

:lmao:

I know why some animals eat their young. DD was supposed to be home to pack for the trip, wash the mutt I did not want and do some minor clean up chores around the house. Instead she decides to help out a friend with math.

Long story but it still isn't done and my blood pressure is rising. She assures me, "It will get done." Am mad but can't really destroy her because she was helping a friend.

Why did I reproduce?

Probably seemed like a good idea at the time.
