You can really appreciate what's going on here in the CIty listening to Francesa. I've never seen anything like it here in NY.

They are now broadcasting his games in China even though he is from Palo Alto, CA. Someone asked him if they could ask him a question in Chinese and he replied only if he could answer it in English. The pride and appreciation from the Chinese community across NY and the world is awesome.

People have been comparing it to Tebow, but Tebow was a super star in college and a household name for years. This guy has literally come out of nowhere to take the City by storm. When they won the lottery to draft Patrick Ewing, there was a huge buzz because Ewing was already a star. This is beyond even that.

People at my office were leaving yesterday (who never watch basketball) so they could get home by 7:00pm to watch the Knicks play the Raptors. Not exactly the NBA Finals.

He has to play better defense and the big test will be when Carmelo ANthony comes back and how they play together.

I had to laugh when the Associated Press referred to him in an article about last nights winning three pointer as an American Taiwanese. I guess he's not a real Chinese American then.

He’s certainly making headlines and it’s a great story. I don’t follow the NBA closely (I mean if the Bobcats were you home team and you lived through the debacle of arrogance and egotism that was the moving of the old Charlotte Hornets… you’d be jaded too), so I’m curious to hear y’all’s opinions on this…

What’s this kid doing differently while playing for the Nicks that he was unable to do while playing for a couple of prior teams (or did those organizations just not bother to let him off the bench)?

This seems to be a case of preparation meeting opportunity. He was stuck behind more highly touted players with similar skillsets in his other NBA stops. He does have some limitations to his game - he's not a particularly good defensive player, and he turns the ball over more than you'd like from your point guard. But he works hard and he seems to have been (going all the way back to when he was coming out of high school to college - check the article I linked above) the guy who juuuuuuust missed out on the last spot on the team over and over again.

Why can't people just be American? :confused3

I know there are not that many NYers on the DIS Dads' Board, how have the rest of the country been reacting to this Jeremy Lin with the Knicks?

I am not a huge pro basketball fan, but I've been getting caught up in it as well. I know people who have not watched a game in 10 years are, all of a sudden, going nuts over this kid. It has become appointment television here in NY. All over the City, it is all anyone is talking about. He and the Knicks basically shoved the Giants off the back pages and talk shows by the Wednesday after the Super Bowl.

To be honest I never hear of him before yesterday, when he was in my backyard kicking the Raptors butts.

Kid seems to have moves.

Reminds me of Damon Stoudamire when the raptors firs drafted him.

Does my lack of basketball knowledge come through? :lmao:

then how would some use that as an excuse or an issue?

You talking to me like that because i'm American?

Your racists because I'm American, just doesn't work as well.

I’ll have to go give that a read in a bit…

That’s a really nice concept and I wish it were so, but being human… we generally have an unfortunate habit of dividing ourselves into groups (real and imagined), and then passing judgment on one and other.

We’ve got some growing to do yet.

The NBA? When did they start playing again? ;)

I haven't been following it closely, but you can't really miss it if you watch any sports television... I think the fact that he's playing for the Knicks is what's driving this, that team has been waiting for someone to bring them back to the forefront of Hoops for a longtime, and rightfully so. As much as it would suck for the Celtics, seeing the Knicks become a powerhouse would be really good for the sport.

It will be interesting to see the dynamic once Carmelo and Amorie get back. Amorie ran the pick n' roll before so I think he will jump right in. Carmelo has and is a ball hog. He doesn't play D and while he is a great scorer he does not move without the ball well. Lin is constantly moving so Mello had better get into shape quick.

So my original question as stated is un-American? :sad2: :lmao:

American Ownage!!!:thumbsup2

No, the concept that we are all simply Americans would take away the last refuge of the scoundrel that any question of a persons ability, competence, intelligence, et al, could be labeled as Racist because the individual is a _____-American (fill in the blank with appropriate ethnicity). Racial politics is simply to easy and too powerful to be given up.

Well then...Appalachian-American.

At least it was a 21 year and not a 16 year. :eek::eek: :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I like it when my scotch is old enough to drink itself.
Hmmmm - would that make it recursive scotch (thus rendering it infinite)?? :drinking:

You too can be a member of the tax and spend state.. But I will say they took only a week to get me my tax return direct deposited to my account

It did seem faster this year... now if only the DMV would let you pay on the internet!

My wife is posting our Florida pics. Gotta love this one.
