Had a Beverly of a day yesterday. Today is a bit better so far. I think I just need to get through the rest of this month in one piece, and things should start looking up again.

i don't have as many points as Dave, and the resale market has small contracts. And, once a dvc member, you have to resist addons. You can get a studio stay for a week at OKW for around 60 points. If you find one of those at $60 a point, then you're looking at $3600. Now, that doesn't include tickets or food, which is why you look at the future savings. But, knowing i can do a theme park every other day and still have lots of fun has been worth it.

Whoa…

3600? I thought we were talking about 12 to 15K or better.
Now I have some thinking to do.

And some research as well.

12 to 15k is about the minimum buy in if you are buying in through Disney direct. Its about 12k at AKV and 14K with discounts for BLT.

There aren't many contracts for sale in the 3k range but there are some. There are a fair number that are 6500 and below though.

This is why they make scotch my friend. This is why. ;)

Yeah I'm pretty used to ups and downs professionally. In the past 12 years I've had 3 internal promotions that resulted in me making less money each time, been through a company selling my division to a competitor who explicitly wanted to shut us down, been part of starting a company twice, gone through 2 major successful acquisitions, the last of which was to Microsoft and then was part of MSFT's first mass layoffs after being picked as 1 of Microsoft's up and coming leaders.

Wow, with success like that, who needs failure? Bravo to you for continuing to perservere and land on your feet.

Best. Equation. Ever.

already got a response from someone offering me a baby gate, just need to arrange pickup. :thumbsup2

Wanted to post pics of DD's birthday party, but DW took the camera to work.

I am having pizza for lunch, again. Every day this week since sunday when we got pies for the family party and there was a lot left over.

DW took DD to see BATB in 3D on monday. Don't know if anyone else saw it, but DW said the 3D was impressive. She also mentioned that Finding Nemo is coming back to theaters in 3D... that I will have to go see!

Waiting for DW's Iphone 4S to arrive.

I hope things continue to improve Aaron.

Yeah some people fail up, I choose to succeed down.

I'm a fan of any equation that ends with that result.

Avast mateys! Here there be SLOW!

At least we can get on now. earlier today I wasn't even getting a response from disboards.

Way to go with freecycle. We wanted to see BATB, it's DW's favorite movie but couldn't justify the $ to see it in the theatre.

That sounds all good unless....

I actually like having the flexibility of not being tied into DVC. Still, I have to admit there are days when I look at it and think, "Man, that would be nice..."

I don't view our membership as being "tied" to DVC per se. Sure, we have the associated costs with it, but you know, if we find ourselves not able or even wanting to go at any given time, we can rent out the points. I've had extras before that I've rented, and not worried about it one bit. I just really like knowing that when we do want to go to a Disney destination, east, west, father west... we know what our first choice accomodations will be. 11 Resorts to choose from. Can't complain too much about that. For our family, the space is an issue, so traditional hotel rooms just don't work. And I don't like paying for them anymore - let alone two of them.

Also having a family of 5, I definitely hear you on that front.

If there's an award for "Best use of smileys to explain why someone isn't getting any" you definitely deserve it.

I envy all y’all DVC folks. Would really like to be able to do that, but with collage tuition looming, the buy in for DVC is beyond our reach for the foreseeable future.

We received the first of many yet to come college brochures in the mail today. :scared1:

Fun stuff. And oh yeah, those tuition bills... However we are fortunately blessed in that that's been taken care of for us. Awful as last year was, there was definitely a silver lining to that cloud as FIL set aside for all 7 of his grandchildren in that regard, separate trust funds for all, with enough for each for 4 years at the school of their choice. For all of the woes I endured through those years with his strong, sometimes overbearing ways, I very much appreciate what he did to leave a positive legacy for the family, and for providing this wonderful inheritance for them. DW is working through all of the logistics with the tax attorneys, financial planners and the like, and it has been a bit frustrating, but everything should be transferred properly by May or June. What he left for us will take a little longer, but that's okay - I'm not complaining.

If you really are lucky, you can even find some contracts in the 30-50 range, and through banking and borrowing you could make them work as well - if you don't want to go every single year.
