We'd probably like BLT the best, but where we buy is going to be very dependant on finding the right contract. We're really only looking at contracts that have 2 years worth of points available now. Because we are looking at doing a really big trip this year getting a bunch of points up front really reduces our re-coup time.

CHeck the DVC thread. There was a great post on where to buy. One was to buy at the resort you want to stay in. You'll have 11 month window, and be happy. One was to buy the cheapest and save money and get lucky with stays. One was to buy the resort where you would be ok with staying. It is phrased better than this. My advice is to buy the resort where, if you could only go to 1 resort again, which would it be. We own at SSR and BLT. We've stayed in all the WDW DVC except BCV. The resort I want is BLT. We bought SSR because it was cheaper. I like SSR, just not as much as I like BLT. I would stay at GF and Poly when they go DVC, but plan to buy another resale only at BLT.

Ahhhh... only 30 minutes to catch up on the thread today :thumbsup2 Hopefully the admins can figure out why it's been slow lately.
Looking forward to Saturday... DD has been invited to a birthday party. It's being held at the Hilton at the oceanfront. Pool party from 4-8 followed by a sleepover at the hotel. So... DW and I figured it would be the right thing to do to rent a room, too. :thumbsup2 Been a long time since we hung out at the resort side of the beach. Should be a fun time!

Good morning all!~

This is great advice. We bought into BLT because it was the one we wanted to stay in the most, and we're able to get our first choice of accommodations every time because of the 11 month window. It's worth the extra $5 a point or so we paid over AKV (which is the one the DVC rep was pushing us towards for some reason...).

Morning DisDads :surfweb:

Honey-Do list is long for this morning, then a bunch of tests for work this afternoon before work tonight. Oddly enough, Skyrim is not on the list.

Cheers,
Indy

Does that mean it's time to start looking for something?

Are you on linkedin?

I probably need to be. Honestly, I don't know. I have more job knowledge and responsibilities than some coworkers, and my satisfaction comments are the highest on my team. So, I feel stable there. But, the department is subject to cuts way above my level, so no certainty. I've been they this now for 4 years. It still increases my anxiety level each time.

Good Morning, Gang!

The only benefit of DW being a teacher. We only have to worry about one of us being off. But that also means we have to go at peak when every one else is.

Kris,

I totally understand what you mean about going when every one else is going. My wife is in education as well and we always have to go down when it's 7-10 on the crowd calendar!

I would say, don't forget to check in on the Swan or Dolphin for that teacher discount they give, but then I remembered you said you had a free dining pin. So it probably wouldn't save you any money.

Good Luck! :thumbsup2

DW is a teacher as well, so we always seem to go at peak times. What can you do? I never knew the Swan/Dolphin had teacher discounts. We're DVC, but always good to know. :thumbsup2

My information packet came from DVC today. DW and I are both excited, but I think if we buy we'll buy resale and not direct from Disney.

If I had it to do over again, I would have explored buying a resale and getting in at a different resort. At the time we bought, we had a choice of SSR or AKL, and we chose SSR because it was cheaper. Until this upcoming trip, we never had a problem booking another resort at the 7 month window. So we've been lucky. The other thing we did wrong was buying the minimum of 160 points. Should have gone for a bit more. Now, with 2 kids, the studios are becoming cramped and we can't get 1BRs for a full week at peak times. So we may be forced to start borrowing and banking unless we can add.

We'll be looking to add if I can ever get back in the groove financially. We're very intrigued at the possibility of adding points at GF. If we can swing it, perhaps we'll add the minimum at GF, and look to add more via resale, providing we can get our same use year.

We are looking at the "where you would be okay staying option" Proximity to MK or Epcot is a big requirement for us. BLT with it's monorail access and ability to walk to the park really leads in this respect. Our second choice is Boardwalk. Boardwalk has a location we like, much lower initial price per point, and lower point per room cost. It looks like in the off season a 1 bedroom is at least 30 points less for a 5 night stay. The point difference means I can afford larger rooms on every trip and bring family or friends along which is a bigger win to me.

I still believe... :thumbsup2

A great reason to stay on the ocean. Have a great weekend trip.

I, for one, am grateful for the slowdown! Hard to keep up!

Next weekend or this weekend? Anyway, good luck! I'll be camping outside in the woods of Connecticut this weekend! :woohoo: DS's first outside winter campout! Wish us luck!

i like the pace of this thread as well. Have a great trip as well.

:scared1: :lmao::rotfl:

I've done that before myself. It stinks when it happens, but sure funny afterwards.

And yes, I'm glad you're not due to be in surgery! :rotfl2:

You don't remember? It was the thing, with the guy.

No Irate calls yet. I think I may have imagined the thing, with that guy.

If your were a surgeon you're meeting would probably be at the hospital.

Maybe I should have become a surgeon that would have narrowed things down for me quite a lot.

As far as a DVC purchase. I would say if you are going durring peak times pick the home resort where you want to stay. If most of your trips are at odd times ie. the week before Thanksgiving, the week after Christmas break, the week after labor day, buy the cheapest you can find.

This is my exact thinking on DVC for our family as well. I love BLT for its proximity to what is important for us right now - MK.

But, down the road when we're empty nesters, I would imagine that Boardwalk would be our perfect location for just the DW and I.

But, alas, DVC isn't in the budget for us right now.

If it were a $5 price difference BLT would be the choice hands down. On the resale market there is about a $30 PP difference between BLT and Boardwalk. As a result we are weighing the difference between 100 points at BLT or 150 points at Boardwalk. ( granted I know its not a completely even comparison because the annual dues on boardwalk will be much much higher than at BLT because of the greater number of points and the higher dues per point.

Most of our stays at least for the foreseeable future are all going to be during the off season.

Yes I have been Herat, Jalalabad and Helmand....and those CIED (Counter IED) guys are pretty darn good.

Call signs are Soul Stealer....;)
wow. looks like you you needs some big grapes to do that job.

It was, but all our players are from the USA. :rotfl2:

(maybe not 100% true)
:lmao: the nhl was mostly canadians when i was a kid, now, theres from all over the world.
What app do you use?
i use two, the first one is called disney world magic guid. i think it was $7.00. its the best one i found. als i use a "ride counter ap" that tracks when, were, who and how many times you go on a ride. ill have to pm that one to you, its from another website.
Dave, how did you end up with that? Do yourself a favor- put that bag in a doubled plastic bag, add a little bleach, and place it in the back of your pickup. Tomorrow morning drive directly to the landfill. Do NOT stop to talk to anybody. :sad2:

No MISQUOTE needed. :rolleyes1:rolleyes1 popcorn::

 i will do that this afternoon. :lmao:

DVC normally wouldn't be in the cards for us either. Usually when we have a little bit of money there are more pressing things that we need to do with it. It just happens that it looks like we might have a little bit of money in the near future and that money will be arriving at the same time that we are planning a trip to take my SIL and her family to disney. Everything happening at the same time is what makes DVC attractive for us. I remember listening to the Disdads DVC podcast while DW and I painted our bedroom (Beachclub blue) and thinking that'd never be something that'd make sense for us.

Interesting. The Prez's visit to MK is off limits to park guests. Only those individuals invited by the white house will be able to see it. Main Street is blocked off for the duration. How loverly. A man of the people.
