so... today during my lunch break I went to get a tire fixed that has had a slow leak. I stopped in at a semi truck tire shop near work that myself and co-workers have used to get tires patched in the past.
They said they could get me right in. They did and as I'm waiting the guy comes out from the shop and asked who has the green Chevy. He then proceeds to tell me that the lug nuts are so tight that he could only break 2 of the 6 loose with his pneumatic wrench that has 500 ft/lbs torque in reverse. He starts proposing all kinds of options to fix the tire without taking the wheel off the truck, but I didn't have time and really didn't want him tearing up my aftermarket rims or my new paint so I told him thanks, but I'd just take it back to the store that put the tires on a few months ago... if they overtightened the wheels, then it could be their problem.
I'm thinking if a tire shop that specializes in semi tires and has probably had to deal with overtightened lug nuts once or twice before can't get them loose, they must be pretty darn tight. By then I was just fuming and ready to lay into somebody, but thankfully I decided to wait and make the phone call to the other store until I got home.
I parked the truck in the driveway, got my lug wrench out and broke every lug nut on the truck loose
by hand.
So much for your fancy schmancy 500 ft/lb pneumatic impact wrench pal.
