Credit Unions…

(There’s a reason why banks acuse these folks of taking their “best customers”.)

The only thing I use my bank for is a checking account.

Anytime I need to borrow money, I go to Farm Credit Services. It is a cooperative lender that specializes in ag loans, but they will finance just about anything. They aren't always the absolute best rate around, but always competitive. The main thing is that we've worked with them for years, they know me, I know them and anytime I need to do anything all it takes is an e-mail or a phone call.

I have a wrecked example of one of their amps down in my basement…
scattered amongst the rest of the old, and busted bits of gear.
Obviously I need to clean up down there.

I keep that stuff for two reasons… vintage “garage band” doesn’t resell all that well
(especially if it’s been ridden hard and is beat all to @$#%).

And secondly… It reminds me of just how much money I frittered away during my youth.

I believe that the folks just ahead of me have made very certain I won’t be allowed to live that fairytale.

As for the rest of that shot across the bow…
I have more then enough to start busking on the street corners
(and that, along with living under a bridge, actually is my retirement plan).

The rest of the mountain of beat up, and busted gear down there is just the stuff I can’t justify throwing out, and yet don’t have either the money, inclination or need to fix up.

By the way... I'm sitting here, not working, and looking at my phone trying to make it ring. My truck is supposed to be finished today, and whether they call or not, I plan to be at the shop this afternoon to check things out.

Yay! The room is painted! Now, I have to mow part of the lawn, get cleaned up, wait for DS to get home from school, then its off to soccer practice, with a detour or two along the way (drop of suit at dry cleaners, get some household goods at the local megastore). Post-soccer will be dinner, get the kids to bed, and put the room back together, with attendant dusting, cleaning, blah.

I think I have earned a couple of barley sodas tonight.

I only have parent night at dance with oldest and then throwing with youngest dd for softball season that starts right after soccer ends.

You'll retire. It may be short lived if you die at your desk, but barring that, everyone will retire. How and when are the variables.

That would be nice. Social Security was originally designed for people to be eligible when they were within a few years of life expectancy. Problem is that as life expectancy increased, none of the politicians did the right thing and just raised the SS age. And, they just keep being re-elected or appointed in new positions. I think it will be around for us, but we may not be able to draw it until we at 75.

seems like Sam Adams is a friend of a few of us. Sometimes he like to stir the pot and get us in trouble.

I prefer their friend Samuel Smith but Sam Adams is a good man as well.

A big shout out to Andy, Tim, and Steve. With your posts about refinancing, I contacted my bank. They had some type of abbreviated refinance (Andy, they didn't use the term conversion) where they don't actually do a home appraisal but a comparison of recent sales and then all the other stuff - title check, credit scores, etc. It is $199 closing cost. Bottom line is that I get a lower fixed interest rate and for the same house payment, will have the house paid off in 10 years as opposed to 11. Even better, there are Republic Banks in Florida for my big retirement move one of these days.

So, Andy, Tim, and Steve, I will buy you each a beer whenever we meet up at WDW, assuming everything goes through. Thanks.

Good farm visit today though the grower was an hour late. Gave me a chance to look around and 4 hours of road time and a cool, sunny day. I'll call it a win.
