Strawberries all picked and plants pulled up. Time to start weighing berries but I just am doing total weight today and not individual berries. :cool1:

how many acres do you have of them?

Only about 1000 sq ft of research plots but they are almost as much work as a full commercial planting. I'd rather have about an acre of my own and I could clear about $10000 profit.

Hey DIS Dads...was a crazy day. Still not 100% on if DD has Hand-Foot-Mouth, but still has the red bumps on feet hands. To make it better, she is cutting several teeth as well. Slobbering on everything she gets her hands on as well. One of those days. Needless to say, I got a ton of sleep last night and got a ton of work done today. :headache:

:surfweb: Just brewed my 3rd mug of coffee...I wonder if I can make it to 9pm :faint:

I mowed the jungle yesterday, rained again. I think I may just plant rice or cranberries! Oldest DD started the HS gymnastics program at the Gym last night and is enjoying it. I think because she is hanging out w/ the older girls. In the Xcel program she was in, there were several younger less mature that she didn't care to listen about their complaining. This should go well.

Hey, I saw we broke 100k posts! :woohoo:

Hope your little one feels better soon and that your oldest enjoys her new program. My DD had her tumbling class tonight, she's just tumbling, no apparatus for her.

I am thankful that DS is now the primary lawn mower. I think he'll regret not mowing today because it's supposed to rain tomorrow so it's going to be pretty tall by the time he gets the chance on Thursday.

Wow, I didn't realize that strawberries were so cost/space effective. That's pretty cool.

wow!! im behind.
norm - im glad to hear dd is doing better. prayers that will take care of it.

brent - i hope works better for you today. :thumbsup2

sorry if i missed someone, i just went through it quick.

So, I've been without a voice for about 4 days now. I got sent home from work yesterday when the CEO overheard me talking to my boss, and told me to get out. Can't argue with the CEO, right?

I have found that parenting is a bit harder if you aren't able to speak above a whisper. On the healthy side, I have had to walk more stairs to address my daughters instead of just yelling for them to get to where they need to go. On the bad side, I have occasionally had to knock on walls to get the girls' attention when they've been arguing with raised voices.

Hopefully back to work with a semi-functioning voice tomorrow. And conducting a lot of business via email.

Sorry to hear. Feel free to use BIG BOLD LETTERS if it makes you feel better. :lmao:

Still a lot of berries. I grow them in a pot on my patio table and in a hanging basket...except I forgot to bring them in over the winter :(

We have several berry farms close by and go picking every year. It is nice to have the apple orchards, berry farms, farmers markets, Christmas tree farms, pumpkin patches all just a few miles away.

A lot going on. Good to hear older one doing well in gymnastics. As for younger, sounds like hand, foot, mouth, but I defer to your doc. It just has to run its system, but if it bothers her, you can put neosporin on them. If you put it on her hands, then you need to put socks on her hands. Our yngest had it 3 times.

Nothing like fresh picked strawberries. We have a few farms close by as well. We try to go ever year.

Hope the health issues improve with DD. No fun when the little ones are sick. Best wishes to your eldest in gymnastics as well. Good experience for them.

I would go with rice. You don't have to be part of the Ocean Spray Coop. I understand your frustration. We were dry for all of March and early April and now it won't quit.

Do you use homemade stuff for everything? Just curious. I don't like going to the doctor (sorry docs) but was thankful for pain meds after last back pain.

Yes, homeopathic / alternative as much as possible; however, not not ill often. Mainstream when needed. Dr. for regular check ups, extremely rare visit otherwise. I had Pneumonia once that I needed prescription for and my DS had strep once where he needed antibiotics.

I'm hoping DS becomes the primary lawn mower this summer. He, DD and SWMBO are heading up to the "vacation home":headache: (AKA the house we couldn't sell when we moved) soon and it will be good for him. DW doesn't think he is old enough but I was running riding lawn mowers by his age.

The strawberries only can net that using the annual plasticulture system. You have some growers using that in VA and very popular in NC and Florida. The profitability comes in because they are the first, locally grown. Based on a consumer willingness to pay we have no trouble moving them at $5/qt but that price only holds for about 3-4 weeks until the traditional matted row varieties come on. You can also loose money. The cost is about 3X what it takes to establish traditional matted row berries.

Great picture! Cute kids and the grower is doing an excellent job on weed, and disease control.

Question for you guys:

Yes, of course it's about food. We're headed down to Myrtle Beach this summer, and I was looking for dining suggestions, especially things that might be a little off the beaten path/less crazy crowded/actually good. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Eric, we really enjoy a place called Villa Romana. It's Italian and family run. Extremely good food. Go early so you can get a table.

Steve swears by a place called Ella's Calabash. It's in Calabash, NC....a short drive away.

When u going to be there?

That's cool. I rarely go to doc as well- annual check up and labs but no routine Meds. I've heard of some home remedies (vodka soaked fried onion to remove skin infection) but I am a big believer of letting the body just heal itself. I do take some vitamins and other than my weight (and herniated disc), I'm in good health.
