‘Morning all…
The Forth is strong with us.
I may have to take the afternoon off to celebrate.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my boy when he was about six-years-old.

DS: “Dad… when will I be grown up?”

Me: “Do you mean when will you be an adult or when will you be a man?”

DS: “Well, what’s the difference?”

Me: “The law say you will be an adult when you turn eighteen, but you wont be a man until the most important thing in your life is not you.”

DS thought about this for a moment or two and then with the perfect timing of a Second City Player, looked down, gently shook his head from side to side and muttered…

“Years, and years, and years…”

Excellent!

That's why women can't be a Man! :stir: :rotfl:

:rolleyes1

Morning guys.

Had a travel day from heck yesterday. I was in NYC for the day and on our return flight we got diverted from O'Hare to Rockford. Now for you who are unaware of the budding metropolis of Rockford this is only 72 miles from O'Hare. Well we were grounded there due to storms and the pilot offered to let people get off the plane if they chose.

I jumped at the offer as DW was able to drive out to pick me up. (Best wife ever)

So instead of getting home around 8 pm as planned, I got home at midnight after driving back to O'Hare to pick up my car. :headache:

Oh and to top it off, my Mom came into town yesterday and I have yet to say hello.

On the plus side, this weekend is DD #2's first communion and we're looking forward to celebrating that with the family.

Here's hoping today is a better day!

At least your car wast parked at O'hare.
Glad things worked out. I am sure you will make it up to the wife this weekend with a nice dinner out, flowers, chocolates and a massage.
Right?

And what time did your flight actually arrive at O'Hare? Before or after you got there to pick up your car? :confused3

Morning gentlemen. Another rainy day so no more field work until next week. I'm going to try to get things organized a bit more and still keep simplifying. Three close friends have all had relatives die within the last week (one lost her mother and father) and I realize if anything happened to me, DW wouldn't have a clue what half this stuff is or what to do with it and that is just the personal stuff. Work stuff is worse. I may start with transferring files from the stack of Zip Disks (at least they aren't 5.25 floppies).

I think I have a decent enough system down, and ask DW and she has no idea of what Internet bank password is. I need to prepare better as well.

Insightful. I know many who have still not reached that. No shot at anyone here - this DDC is a great example of putting others before ourselves. Bravo.

That's why women can't be a Man! :stir: :rotfl:

And that is the type of brilliance people miss if they don't go back and read posts.

Congrats to her. My youngest dd has her 1st communion Sunday as well. 27 of them at a special 2:00 PM mass. I get to lector, older dd is server, and DW is Eucharistic Minister. We roll family style.

another day in the books. Time to get some ZZZs. Nothing exciting happening. Dull night at work. We've gotten into the habit of playing poker during the dinner break that the other guys get. Now they have me playing online with them. It's a bit addictive. But I'm not playing with real money, so it's all just for fun.]

Be careful with those. Some use those .net free sites to trick you to the .com pay sites. You don't win on the .com sites.

Just got back from The Avengers. Holy Crap. Worth every bit of the $17 IMAX 3D. Must sleep.

Great news. I hope to see it. Maybe next week.

:thumbsup2 its my job. people ask, i have to know the answer. you would be amazed what people ask. ::yes::

I get those questions as well, although, different arena. People have stopped surprising me for the most part.

Been having intermitent service with my internet provider.

Had a tech come out last weekend, who was useless.

Then yesterday, the internet was bouncing like a rubber ball... and I went to call my provider, and the phone was just as bad (same provider)...

It might slow down your post padding.

I read somewhere that Milwaukee has some of the cheapest airfare of any airport in the country. :thumbsup2
!

Good news. Owensboro has Allegiant Air that flies to one city.
Better news. That one city is Orlando.
Great news. Flights are $29 some days (per person one way).
Bad news. When Spring and Break arrives for all 3 school districts, the price goes up to $229 for same ticket.

Friday morning multi quoting ownage.

You're no longer in the top 5. Be scared of Dave and Brian. There the big posters.

Nah, free on the lap until he's 2. Yeah, it's a bit of a pain, but between DW and I we can pass him around for the 2 1/2 hour flight and save ourselves the $300.

DW has declared no long road trips until he's potty trained. Can't say I disagree with her on that one.

I figured that. We did and still drive. We started driving at night for that reason. We figured children sleep in their diaper at night, so we drove when they slept. Now, we still drive at night and enjoy the lighter traffic and cooler temps. Going home, we still drive during the day. Maybe I need to reconsider that, but it's the adrenaline if going to to WDW that gets me thru the night. I might not stay awake after a day at WDW and then the drive home.

Yeah, that was Horizons. I miss that ride. My first kiss with an old girlfriend was on that ride. DW is probably glad it's no longer there. :lmao:
.

Fortunately, DW is only woman I have taken to WDW. I did step in it the other day when I talked about how much I hated seeing that Titanic movie with her, but it was someone else. Thankfully, I stopped talking before talking about anything that happened after the movie.

good luck!! hope it all works out well for you!! And as far as Mr. Ramsay not approving of DVC... well, nobody's perfect! :rotfl2:

Think I'll call in today and tell him he's wrong!

Yup. Allegiant flies out of Appleton, Wi - which is about 30 minutes from where I grew up. They tease you with the $29 fares, but very few tickets are sold at that. They only fly a few days a week, fly into Sanford airport (meaning you have to rent a car) then nickle and dime you to death with bag fees, etc. Ugh.

I got a call from DS's t-ball coach the other day. He's on the same team as last year, and the coach remembered how I would help out a practices and the games. He asked me to be assistant coach. :woohoo:

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to start planning a spring training trip to Florida. I'm assuming we can use some of the major league facilities now that the big clubs have headed north for the season...

I wouldn't care about renting the car or all the other fees if I could get a $29 ticket x 4. But, haven't found it yet. It us cheaper to fly out of Nashville or Louisville, even with the parking and 2 hour drive.

i thought they had managers in baseball. Something you will learn at those major league facilities in FL. Maybe your August trip will be tax deductible for training purposes?

Not sure. I saw my plane leave Rockford about 9:45 so that would land them at ORD about 10:20 or so. I also heard that O'Hare was backed up something fierce with planes waiting to get access to gates, so the fact I got to my car @ 11:15 is somewhat uncertain if I won or lost that bet.

Congrats to her. My youngest dd has her 1st communion Sunday as well. 27 of them at a special 2:00 PM mass. I get to lector, older dd is server, and DW is Eucharistic Minister. We roll family style.

Congrats to yoyr daughter, and on the whole family participating in the event. Very Cool!

I'm running the first 5k of my 1/2 Marathon training tomorrow. Head over to the Nemesis Challenge thread and give me some ideas for my playlist!

At least you made it home. And, thanks. We have had a lot of family ( no surprise) flake and aren't showing up. Youngest dd is scared no one will be there for her like they were for her older sister. So, I volunteered us to try and make up for the Beverly family. She thinks it is cool.

hey guys,

Getting ready to head back to the Outer Banks from Northern VA, and I pass by the lobby to see... You guessed it, its raining sideways!!! Beautiful!! Nothing like a 4 hour drive in the pouring rain! GRRR

Go get em killer. Before soccer games I played for the kid the "Make a man out of you" from Mulan.

I'm just sitting around today waiting for tomorrow's flight. Stomach thing seems to be mostly gone. Going to buy some shorts at Jacque Penne's after DD gets home. She needs shoes for the prom. Her one pair of shoes will probably cost more that the stuff I get.

It's sunny and hot here, Matt! The drive shouldn't be bad once you get out of the forsaken land...

Wow. I don't think I've been here much in the last 45 pages or so. Hope all is well. I see a baby was born. Congrats, Andy! Also a new DisDad from VA! Where in VA?

I AM SUCH AN IDIOT!

Was in the middle of packing everything, called to have the shuttle pick me up and printed out my flight info. Date on the ticket was 5-5 which is SATURDAY not FRIDAY. What a doof.
Don't believe I'd have told that, brother :lmao:

And a whole CASE of Beverly to anyone who can cite that reference!

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
I knew those lines were from some classic author, but didn't realize they were a direct quote. I am often amazed at how closely The Simpsons stay to most of their source material (their Raven segment was incredible). I'd say that it's a much maligned and misunderstood animated comedy, but since it's been going strong for 20+ years, I can't make that case.

No idea why I posted this.. just impressed by Matt Groening again, I guess.

I read somewhere that Milwaukee has some of the cheapest airfare of any airport in the country. :thumbsup2

A few years ago, I was just checking Airtran's website - more dreaming of a vacation than actually planning one - and found $46/person each way to Orlando. I don't know if they were having one heck of a sale or if their website was messed up, but I jumped on it and booked. We were delayed getting on the plane due to snow and I was chatting with one gentleman and told him about the fare I paid. He paid over $200 for the same flight. Later I saw him talking to his family and I could clearly make out the words "Fourty Six Dollars!" coming from his lips. He didn't look very happy, either. :furious:

Southwest does occasionally have $89 or even $79 fares. They usually don't line up with when we're going, but the hope is always there!

I think I mentioned this before, but we scored a $100 pp deal for the flight down. Unfortunately, we couldn't get a deal on a flight back.

the last thing I want to do is play online for real money. I am playing on Pokerist, mostly via the free app on my phone. I am kind of hoping my neighbor invites me to one of his poker nights again though, now that I know what I'm doing.
