How has everyone been? Have you missed me or even noticed I have not been here? :rotfl2:

Just needed to vent a little bit. some of you may recall how Ethan was struggling in school this year and how we had talked to the teacher multiple times with no real consistant positive results. We were just glad to have the school year end, and decided to get him a reading tutor for the summer and see if she can help him. Well, today was his first session with one of the interventionalists at the school and his is dyslexic!! No wonder the poor kid has sturggled so much!! He has to have more testing next week to see what type of dyslexia ( I dint know there was more than one type) and how severe it is! I wish we had known this sooner for his sake. I had wondered about the possibilty but thought if there was a problem like that the school would have picked up on it. I guess not!:rolleyes1

Steve, I hope it works out for Ethan. I suffer from a mild version of dyslexia and it can be a struggle at times. I am sure with you and your wife's support he will get through this. By the way, just curious, is he left handed?

DW was not diagnosed until high school. And, her teachers made her sit on her left hand and learn to write with her right hand. Yeah school system. My oldest is left handed, but no signs yet. DW struggles with her numbers at times.

Good luck to Ethan.

That makes me feel better Dave!!! The lady today luckily works with this sort of thing in the district and she said she was very surprised that he has made it this far and not been sent to her already. She said that she was going to make sure when school starts back in the fall that he has an IEP right off the bat. He has to have an IQ test next week I think and then that will determine what type it is. He is a smart kid (at least I think so).

It is funny that you mention that...when he first started to write he used his left hand a lot but mostly his right now. When he plays baseball you never know if he is going to swing left or right handed...honestly I dont think he knows ahead of time either, but he can hit either way! Is there a correlation of dyslexia and being left hand dominant?

I forgot all about D Cot. I joined over there sometime before our last trip which was in August of last year. Just streamed a bit of Off Kilter.

I was told by my DD's pediatrician it is more common in left handed people.

I had no idea....The lady did ask Shari if either of us was dyslexic and she told them that he was adopted and she told us that more than likely one of his biological parents was dyslexic and had trouble reading.

Neither one of DW's parents are left handed. They both work factory jobs, but I have not heard or seen either one having difficulty reading. As much as them doctors know about the brain, they still haven't figured it all out yet.
