I couldn’t serve on an HOA board either. It seems to be modeled on the structure and guidelines established for the “House Un-American Activities Committee” (which I fully expect to see reactivated in the near future given the current mood in the nation).
:scared:

Their noncompliance letter didn’t discuss fines (I’d have considered just paying that). Their threat was more specific: I had ten days to act or they’d hire a firm to “bring the property into compliance” and then forward the invoice on to me. I’d have no say in the “who”, “what”, “when” or “how” departments.
:headache:

Basically I wrote then a letter back asking for a clarification on exactly what they wanted done and noted that I’d be acting in October/November anyway.

Not good enough… :headache:

I treated for “broad leaf weeds” first, but that also killed off the clover and actually made things worse. What’s happening at this time is that I loosened all the now exposed soil, sowed grass seed and covered it in straw. None of that was very expensive and it does show a good faith effort. The daily watering will cost me in unnecessary water bills, but it could be worse. I’ll use this method to get through the summer and then fix the problem in the fall. If anything grows… fine, if not… it still gets replaced either way on down the road.

We’ll see how it goes. :rolleyes1

That would be about enough to make me want to cancel the fall project and start house shopping. :headache:

Who's responsible for sending that letter? I think you need to fill a hand sprayer with round up and go write some not very nice things in their yard, then send them a letter for having dead grass. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Just curious... does anyone listen to d-cot.com? Currently listening to the exit music for Soarin' Over California. :music:

Up is the vertical direction from whence you are positioned, but that's not important right now.

Morning gentlemen.... and you too Captain.

I'm hoping to duck out a bit early from the office today to go and chase a little white ball for a while. I joined our parrish men's league this year and this is the first day that I could actually get out to play. Good timing too as I have a client golf event in Indy on Monday.

Speaking of Indy. I'll be heading down there Sunday afternoon / evening and leaving sometime on Tuesday. Still trying to figure out schedules as I have the golf thing during the day Monday and I might have my boss joining me after for the evening. Should he not be able to join, would any of the Indy area Dads want to meet up for dinner Monday night? Alternatively I might be able to meet up early afternoon on Tuesday before I head back home. I'll let you know once plans firm up a bit.

Brian, I would possibly be available Tuesday. Monday is booked unfortunately. Let me know your plans when you get a chance.

Had nothing to really do since its raining now so I messed with the convertible, thought it need a master cylinder, but after giving it a good bleeding I think something was just stuck, works good now, I'll keep a eye on it:magnify: and hope that did the trick rather then condemn it right away:rolleyes1

Good grief. Whatever happened to having a one-on-one discussion first? Common sense is not so common anymore.

Nice.
I like the idea, but I’d be the one they’d choose to make an example of I’m sure.

Most neighborhoods have HOAs now-a-days, but most are also fairly innocuous. It kind’a depends on the personalities of the folks that get onto the board. If you get individuals that are completely certain (for one reason or another) that they are actually a better human then you are… then you get stuff like this (or calls to physically separate the various unacceptable individuals from the rest of society… with electrified barbed wire and guards… for their own good of course).

A number of state supreme courts have upheld the right of HOAs to take whatever action they see fit (up to and including confiscating your property) in the recent past, so picking a fight isn’t a good idea.

We are planning to move in the next few years. Once our boy gets through collage, we certainly shouldn’t need this big ol’ house anyway and as I get older, the stairs are becoming more of a PIA.

Dear lord, that is incredible. Suddenly my too-hot, cramped small apartment seems a lot better then living in a HOA neighborhood. Hope this gets rectified without any more inconvience to you.

Just curious... does anyone listen to d-cot.com? Currently listening to the exit music for Soarin' Over California. :music:

i usually have "dtuneslive dot com" going. They've got 8 channels and there's always something good on. They have all the tracks you guys have mentioned. If not that, it's usually "radiomargaritaville dot com" for me.

An Italian, a German, and a Polish guy are walking through the desert. Each one brought one item to help aid them on their journey. The Italian is leading the way carrying a machete. The German, walking behind the Italian, asks, "What is the machete for again?". The Italian answers confidently, "So I can cut open any cactus we find and get water. It's more practical than that shovel you are carrying." The German angrily replies, "I haven't seen one cactus yet, so we may just have to dig for water." The Italian sighs and looks back, "Well, I don't think he's going to be any help." Behind them, the Polak is struggling to keep up, carrying a car door. The German yells back, "Hey, why in the world did you bring a car door?" The Polak stops, smiles, and says, "Because if it gets too hot, then I can roll down the window."

I've heard this joke also works if you substitute "Candian" for Polish/Polak.

I was on a mission trip in Poland several years ago. A guy there said, "Oh you're an American. You guys tell Polish jokes. Tell me one." I did (which I was comfortable doing as a fellow Polak). He said, "Oh yeah, we tell that one about the Russians!":lmao:

Nope… I ain’t anywhere near wealthy enough to be accepted into that “Southern Stepford”. They weigh your wallet at the neighborhood boarder before allowing you in (as such I’m not welcome). Besides, I’m pretty sure that their HOA meetings would make ours look like nothing more then a kindergarten playground scuffle.

They’re not all that bad to be sure. Talk to a few folks in a neighborhood before hand and you might get a good idea of just how fanatical they might be.

We may consider actually moving into a condo in the future. They too have HOAs, but since all land in common property and they don’t really care what you do to the inside of the property, I can deal with that.

Hmmmm... that sounds like they would be engaged in a conspiracy to commit trespass on your property, but IANAL. I guess it depends on your HOA agreement. All ours can do is levy fines. They encumber the property so that the title isn't clear until after the fines are paid off. So, there really isn't a lot of immediate impact.

I do agree that the enforcement can be overzealous. Our HOA has fake parking tickets they put on cars as a warning about illegal parking in the subdivision. My father-in-law got one once when he was completely legally parked. There were questions raised with the HOA and the management company about that one...

It sounds like you might make them leave you alone at this point, and I'm glad the steps so far haven't been too too expensive, at least.

Yeah, from what I've seen you're probably right....

I throw everything away at work. Deny. Deny. Deny.

Shred it Ollie! :)

In all seriousness, who gives a beverly what is growing as long as it is green and cut short???? I mean, I guess this time of year, you'd obviously be able to see the clover due to the flowers, but who really cares. I like clover. It makes a great ground cover. I was having a hard time establishing some grass in an area of my yard about a year ago, and I was pretty excited when the white clover started popping up in there.:lmao:

I like clover. Feels darn good on the feet. Anybody know how to make my lawn all clover? :lmao::lmao:

:lmao::lmao: Should feed your dog a really big meal and take him with you as well.

Here you go Mike!

http://www.wikihow.com/Grow-a-Clover-Lawn

Just make sure you read the warnings....

1. Clover grows to about 8 inches tall and then stops. If this is too tall and you decide to mow your clover, be warned that the clippings stick to everything and make a terrible mess. It may be better to just let it grow.
2. Clover flowers attract bees. That can be a problem if you have young children that play in the lawn or have a family member who's allergic to bee stings. Stings are most likely when running barefoot through the lawn. Keeping the clover cut short helps but some of the clover plants will flower even then.

Just get these to keep it short.

And they taste like chicken.

Standard procedure to have an outside Agency review...you'd be surprised how often even a clear cut event can lead to problems

Good policy. They are still talking about it down here. The guy is in critical condition and they say not much is left of his face except his goatee.

You and the mailbox. I've been waiting there the airplane ticket you sent me the last time. I think you may be tricking me. I'll wait there a few more months, but that is it.

Called the post office and they swear both should be there in a few days or weeks. Just stay out there and be ready when they get there.

That sucks! I'm getting ready to replace my A/C system soon. The compressor is on it's last legs. I might could help you out with yours. Any idea what the issue is? Ever figure out what caused the random stalls?

They fixed the house AC but one of the units isn't cooling now. Feel a massive bill is coming around the corner. With graduation coming up, need to get it fixed so the visiting relatives don't melt.
