Well, well, well. It certainly was a Thanksgiving to remember for the DDC, wasn't it? I caught some of the ruckus over on Facebook and see that we're now 20+ pages into a new thread. I'm not going to go back and figure out exactly what happened - I'm just going to sit here and assume that we can learn whatever lesson is available and move on from there. (But if something important happened in those 20 pages, just let me know)

And speaking of moving on, you might notice that my signature has been updated. We had the ultrasound on Wednesday and brought both kids along. Madison made it immediately known to the tech that she wanted to know the gender of the baby. But she had to sit though several agonizing minutes of the tech checking the placenta, taking measurements, etc. Finally, the tech called Madison over and whispered in her ear. Madison got a huge grin and walked back over to me, saying "I have a secret." I asked what the secret was, and she replied "I'm not telling."

She couldn't keep the secret long, however, and began jumping up and down in the ultrasound room yelling "IT'S A BOY! IT'S A BOY! IT'S A BOY!"

We wanted to use a name from somewhere in the Disney universe, but "Eric" and "Philip" where too common; "Walt" a little too old fashioned; and "Goofy" was, well, not approved by She Who Must Be Obeyed. So we picked Ryder - borrowed from Flynn Rider from Tangled. (His middle name is Ethan - a masculinized version of my mom's middle name - Ethelyn.)

I am a little partial to the name Ethan.....:thumbsup2 I like the name Ryder too...very cool!! Congrats again!!

Wow! Miss a couple of days and a lot goes down.

*thinks* If I were banned the other day - the world would have missed out on my "women's gestation period in Canada is 16 months" joke.
Phew* tragedy was avoided.

Lauren sounds like she is a lot like Brianna...I don't think I will ever have to worry about anyone running over her. Ethan on the other hand...well...he sees the good in everyone. He things everyone is his friend. Een in basketball I have to tell him you are not there to take turns..you are there to take the ball!
Our son is also "everyone's friend". Our DD Emma has no problem standing up for herself though. I remember her being 4 years old on a tricycle chasing down a ten year old boy that she though wronged her brother. I think being the younger sister has forced her to more actively stand up for hersel
OK! I gave credit to the Blue Eagles and they deserve it! They are quick and play good "D". However, I still believe Easton won't make it deep into the playoffs due to the T-Day game each year. They prepare for P'burg all week and then have one day to prepare for the Dist. 11 championship game. It is their choice, though, and they have done well in the past. All I can say is........Wait 'til next year!!!!!! Go Rovers!

As for my DW......She is having mixed results, so far. She will receive her 25th and final radiation treatment tomorrow. So far, we can't say we're seeing any great changes, although she does seem to have more energy and less pain. She is able to do more around the house, but only small things for short periods of time. The numbness she has been experiencing in her legs and feet is now spreading up her back, which is very discouraging for her. And, I'm not even going to go into the mental aspect of all this. Since the radiation apparently works for 4-6 weeks after the final treatment, she probably won't be getting an MRI until mid-January. Until then, we won't have any idea of what is going on with the tumor, if anything. We're also trying to be hopeful the radiation isn't doing any irreversible damage to her spinal cord, as the tumor has caused enough problems already. In some ways, she seemed better when she first got home after surgery in August and we can't seem to get any good explanations as to why she has the numbness and if it will be permanent or not. We're trying to be patient but it's not easy.

David is coming home the week before Christmas for 7 days and he will be bringing your Blues' flag with him. Let me know if you'd like me to get the Rovers to autograph it for you! :lmao:
Oh yeah......isn't Easton's coach a former Blue Eagle? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Still praying for your wife Mike. I know that it's hard waiting to find out if the treatment is doing anything especially when you're not really seeing a lot of noticeable signs of improvement.

CUBS????? I am sure if he wasn't going to be a Brewers fan he would at least pick a team with some hope of winning SOMETHING!!:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

Being a Cubs fan builds character. If he wants to be a fan of winners he always has the packers.

Hey, with Theo headed to the Cubs, there may be bright days ahead! Time to jump on the bandwagon!

Congrats, Barry! The DW and I were guessing that's where the name came from!
Really? You knew my mom's middle name?:confused3

:rotfl2:

Barry-
That's awesome. What were you hoping for? C'mon be honest.. And most importantly, how will you get him to be a Cubs fan when he's growing up in Brewer Country?
Honestly, I wasn't hoping one way or another. But It does work out nice that we don't have to paint Evan's room once we move him out. :rolleyes1

As far as the Cubs thing - I was actually surprised at how quickly Evan adopted them. He likes the Brewers mascot, Bernie Brewer, because some of his friends have him on t-shirts, but whenever he talks about playing baseball, he's always on the Cubs. I didn't even push him to it, he just saw me with the shirts and followed in step.

HEY!

But, in all seriousness, congratulations on your latest masculine child.
Her words, not mine.

Congrats, Barry!

Thanks. He is a very big Packer fan, much to the chagrin of his Bears-fan mother. :thumbsup2 Besides, being a Cubs fan will keep him humble. Oh, and he'll be able to root for Prince Fielder next year. :rotfl2:

Being a Cubs fan would be like being a Detroit Lions fan (which one of my Uncles and my wife's stepdad are). You watch and wait for the disappointment.

I don't know why I don't like the Cubs but I have never liked them. I remember my uncle took me to a Cubs game and before we left I asked if would could switch and take the train to the south side and see the white sox. I think i was 8 or something. Has always stuck with me. Don't know why. Have gone to a couple of Brewer vs. Cub games in Milwaukee and have run in to a lot of rude cubs fans there. Now I do like the Brewers but am not a true fan. I watch them but only because they are on. Now a Packer fan I have always been. Watched them most of my life. Never switched to another team or anything like that. Just giving a bit of background to show it isn't a brewers vs cubs love hate relationship.

Ryder Ethan...I like it. :thumbsup2

I claim the "than" as part of my name...Hey Tim!!!look at that Barry's naming his kid after me.

Alright, let's not get too carried away here. They are still the Cubs. :sad2:

After Theo Epstein got the job in Boston, they won World Series in each of the years in which my daughters were born. There is precedent for DisDads to have this sort of major procreative impact on professional baseball! :rotfl2:

Got anything for football? Because my Eagles...um...yeah. :headache:

Bottom line - the situation is in the past, it's over, and we should ALL be moving forward now. Jim, I hope that we can all bury the hatchet over this incident and leave it behind us.

Anyway, I've been thinking about this for a few days, started a Facebook response to one of the threads there, and managed to not post it before I quit my browser, so I came here with the thoughts.

:thumbsup2
I think the bottom line is that if you have a problem or an issue with someone else in the group, talk to him directly about it. I think most guys here are perfectly willing to admit mistakes and take responsibility for making corrective actions. I'm sure we will all say/post something that gets taken the wrong way or offends someone at some point. Such is the nature of message boards. We shouldn't be afraid to call each other on something (in a tactful manner), and we should be ready to forgive and move on as well.
. :)

Bravo. I posted my thoughts is Disdads, DisDad FB, and earlier on this thread, which I hope were fairly close to what you said here. Mine, of course is written in KY hillbilly, and not nearly as legible as y'all.

They held the Patriots to 2 digits yesterday. That's gotta count for something?!

Congrats. I am partial to the names Pierre .. Thomas ... as I need a few points from him tonight to win the matchup in fantasy this week. Now, he'll score .6 or something.

Barry - Congrat's, love the name. You should mount a frying pan over the door.

Aaron - Thanks for weighing in on the situation here. I think we are all walking on egg shells, as not looking to segregate anyone, or make it into a us vs. them type thing. Bottom line as you said, is if you are in someone else's house, you need to obey their rules.
That being said - there is also ways of handling situations within the group, and there is always the option to close your browser if you are not happy with what is being posted.
Yes it went to a place that was inappropriate, but in all reality all our thread closings walk the fine line.

Jim - We aren't trying to chase you away, and we understand our late night, alcohol induced actions were not Dis material, but hopefully we all learned there are better ways of handling the situation.

OK so I bought our tickets for a non-stop roundtrip flight today for our trip to Myrtle Beach in June for $229 today! Yay!
