DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

How interesting that you would all check back in today. It must have been something in the air, as I sit here wheezing my head off

......

But now for the personal part (at the end of my novel, for anyone still reading ;) ). I decided today after talking to a dear friend of ours :) that I really need to work on getting HEALTHY. Not just skinny, but healthy. Because sooner than later, Kyle and I are going to want babies. And I hear that the healthier you are pre-pregnancy, the better it is for everyone involved.

Now DON'T go spreading rumors that I'm pregnant or that we're trying. We're so not at this point, and Kyle might just kill me that I told you that much even. But who knows how long it will take me to get in shape at this rate, so why not start now? We plan financially already for that day, so why not physically as well?

It's good motivation today, but I don't know that it will last  :goodvibes

That is the best motivation of all, Jennifer. It takes away the guilt of not getting to a certain weight and allows you to have a goal that is definitely achievable. Good for you! My weight loss was not precipitated by any major changes in health or a New Year's Resolution. It was simply that I knew I needed to be healthier than I was. So, keep it up!

I haven't weighed myself in quite a while, so I'm not sure where I stand as far as numbers go, but I certainly looked in the mirror today in one of my "skinny outfits" (yeah, don't ask ;) ) and my jaw hit the floor to see that it wasn't working anymore! Unfortunately, that shock didn't get to me enough because I stilll munched on my mom, sister and my favorite lunch when we get together -- various TGI Friday's appetizers! Man I LOVE that they put those things in the freezer aisle! :thumbsup2

So then I started feeling guilty. So I did an hour of Callenetics and started feeling good. This was the first time I had exercised in over 2 weeks, so I sparked some motivation. So when Kyle came home and heard me say "I feel like running", HIS jaw hit the floor and we did.

And we ran, and we ran. I haven't mapped it yet but I'm actually quite sure it was not that terribly far. But I don't think I'll be able to walk tomorrow, and I started wheezing with about a mile to go and had to make it home before dark.

What is it about that first exercise in a while that (if it doesn't feel like killing you) makes you feel like a superhero? I have read a hundred times in training programs not to start out sprinting when they tell you to walk, because you'll pay for it later. And yet this is the same mentality....?

Jennifer - you sound like you are doing all the right things! I certainly wish that I had been in better health each time I got pregnant. It would have made things so much easier!

I know what you mean about exercising again after a "break". Yesterday I went out and walked 3 miles up hills and down, and came home feeling great. Later yesterday afternoon, I felt my butt and thighs tightening up and by nightfall I couldn't walk. I really didn't want to get up this morning and walk, but I forced myself, and took it easy (only did a mile and a half), but I'm no longer sore. I'll just have to remember not to take such a long "break" next vacation. I really need to do it daily!

You can do it, you can do it, you can do it. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Glad to see some other people checking back in.........I was starting to get worried that I was all alone. :guilty:

No, you are not alone. I have just felt guilty, and couldn't face checking in. This morning, I just kicked myself in the rear and told myself that you guys are the main reason this has been working for me! You wouldn't beat me up about being a bit naughty, but would support me in getting back on track! I'm so glad I checked back in!

I've been pretty bad for about 3 or 4 weeks now. I've put 5 pounds back on. I am officially "back on track" as of right now! We can do this!

Yes, we can do this! Together we can do anything!

Elin already knows this, but John and I both started the Nutri System plan on Monday. We've made it through 2 days with no cheating. Not much, I know, but it's been hard. We both love to eat and big portions, so until our tummies shrink down, we'll just have to be tough. The food has been good and I've been drinking my water. John exercises daily by running 5 miles. I haven't started yet and the treadmill in the basement is calling my name. I just am going to have to take it a day at a time. Right now, I need to focus on the food part and not get overwhelmed.

John needs to lose 20 pounds (he's at 215 and is 6'1"). I won't tell my weight (I'm embarrassed), but I want to lose 20 - 30 pounds. I probably should lose 40 according to "medical charts", but I'm realistic and know how I do.

So, here I am. Hungry at 1:30am and drinking my water. Guess I should head to bed.

Welcome to this thread! :teeth: I found Nutrisystem to really work, but could only afford it for a month. You can do it! And starting out with eating right is definitely a start... you can add exercise in as you are up to it! :goodvibes

 Hi, Denise! It is easier when you know that other people are all working at it, too. I've found that water really helps. Drink a glass whenever you think you want something to eat.

Glad to see you here, Denise (and John). I think with 20-30 pounds to lose you two ought to be at your goal in a few months! Then won't you be tickled with yourselves? :thumbsup2

Denise -- maybe just going up and down those basement stairs to look at the treadmill will get the body started on an exercise plan!! :rotfl:

The hunger pangs do go away, I promise!

Welcome to our group, Denise!!!!! Good for you for starting slowly! You have to take small steps or it gets overwhelming and you're more likely to stop. Add the exercise in as you feel up to it. I had to start with ridiculously small times (10-15 minutes per day) but gradually I built up and I'm now doing 3 miles in the morning, and 1 mile in the evening. I know it's not much, but I do feel better each time I do it!

We are totally here for you and for John as well! You can do this, we know you are a superwoman!!!!

Thanks, Glynis. Today I'm not near as hungry, so that's been great. Spent 5 hours at the pool with my friend and her twins, so I feel I must have gotten some exercise. I'm going slow and steady and REALISTIC! No fad diets, eliminating food groups, etc. Sensible plan with Nutri System, and hopefully the weight will stay off.

:welcome: Denise. It is great to have new people.

I am so glad everyone is checking back in & getting back on track. We have all come so far. Let's all keep at it & keep on motivating each other. I know part of the reason I have stayed on track is accountability at my Weight Watchers meetings & to you guys.

We can do it........we can get healthy & feel better & look better.

I did it!!!!!!!! I actually exercised for the first time in 2 years. Yes, I know that's horrible, but I am back! I walked/ran 20 minutes on my treadmill. It said I burned 160 calories and went 1.07 miles in 20 minutes. I feel so proud of myself. My goal is 4 days per week, with absolutely no less than 3 times.

Yay, Denise!!!! That's a fantastic goal and you are doing wonderfully! Keep it up! We are all behind you!

:wave2: Hi everyone! Sounds like you're all still on track and doing well!

I bought some digital scales last week so I now know "my numbers" are 136... I think that losing just 4 or 5 pounds will get me back on my summer clothes but it's just not happening!

The excercise is still going well though and I'm feeling better. I went to London with my boss on Tuesday and I used to be breathless and tired by the time we'd walked to our destination (he walks v fast)but on Tuesday though I found I was walking the quickest and felt perfectly fine even though I was carrying my laptop and my lunch in my backpack!

I'm enjoying my morning excercise and find I now need to do it in order to function in the morning! I had to get up at 5am on Tuesday and didn't have a lot of time so I just did the warm up and cool down of one of my routines just to wake me up :rotfl:

Clare - Good for you on the walking! It's amazing how the exercise really starts to become necessary for us, isn't it? I find that if I don't do my walking in the morning, I have less energy all day long, and I snack more.

Good luck with the new scale. I love our digital one. It's really sensitive and shows even the most minor loss or gain. It's a good motivator! Good luck with the few pounds you have to go! I know how hard it can be! I'm not losing as fast as I used to and it's a bit frustrating. Still, we just keep plugging away, right?

Ok, week one went ok. Didn't lose as much as I hoped, but I'm down 3-4 pounds. Usually I lose like 7 week one (water weight). Guess my age is showing, huh? Oh, and I am about to start my period, so I'm hoping that I'll see a bigger jump afterwards. John didn't weigh today, but I think he lost 6-7 pounds.

Off to week 2~

It will come off, Denise. I am almost certain that the weight loss was less because of your period. Wait until next week. I bet there will be a huge change. Good for John!

We skipped our workout yesterday (or, rather traded it for today -- which was supposed to be a rest day) because I woke up not able to breathe, so I didn't feel too much like working out  I did just over 3 miles though, this morning... so still on track! I still think it's really boring, but I just keep reminding myself that when we are actually running the half, the scenery will be priceless! :thumbsup2

Good job Denise.

I am so impressed with you Clare & Jenn for your excercising. I have GOT TO get my butt in gear & excercise more regularly.

Checking in for the week. Lost a half a pound again. That seems to be my trend right now.........1/2 a pound a week at this rate it will take me forever to get to goal.........oh well, at least I had the good clothes shopping experience.

Keep on trucking everybody.
