DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

My family and I were invited to a family birthday party for our niece. I knew that cake and ice cream were going to be served, and I wouldn't be able to partake. So, I made myself a dessert that I can have. It was amazingly wonderful! Who knew that 5 grams of carbs could actually taste so good! It was a pie in a meringue shell, with whipped cream (sweetened with Splenda), cream cheese, and sugar-free jell-o. Berries could also be added. Luckily, I didn't share with anyone, so I have a whole pie (minus one sliver) for me to enjoy this week. It was so wonderful to be able to have some dessert with everyone else. Especially since this was a really bad food day for me. Nothing tasted good today. Oh well, that's how it goes! If anyone wants the recipe, let me know!

Does anyone have any recipes for smoothies??? They aren't no carb- but they are low fat- and I have a craving for something fruity!

I haven't tried this recipe but it sounds good to me.
Tropical Smoothie
1 frozen ripe banana
6 Oz. non-fat vanilla yogurt
2 pineapple rings
1/2 mango
ice cubes

Blend all items together in a blender

This makes 2 cups

I make smoothies but don't have any set recipes. Normally I just throw some fruit in the blender with some ice, skim milk and yogurt or frozen yogurt. Strawberries, peaches, blueberries, pineapple, coconut, mangoes, bananas.

Or sometimes I will mix frozen yogurt, some milk, ice put in a spoonful of peanut butter and a squirt of Hershey's syrup if I am looking for something chocolatey or like a peanut butter cup. I know this isn't really low fat.

Thanks everyone for your smoothie recipes- I'm gonnna try 'em alter tis week.

Glynis, you can do beef stroganoff and make it low fat AND NO CARB (DON'T USE NOODLES FOR YOU) . Just use no fat sour cream. the kind in the container that looks like a black and white cow is the BEST! You wouldn't even know it was ff! It's easy to make and yummy!!

You got it! It is heavenly. I'll put my notes in parenthesis.

Cool Strawberry Cream Pie
Ingredients For Meringue Shell:

* 4 egg whites
* 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
* 3 Tablespoons Splenda® (I thought I was going to need more, but this turned out to make it just a touch sweet and it went well with the filling)

Ingredients For Filling:

* 1 small pkg. sugar-free gelatin (strawberry or raspberry)
* 1 pint heavy cream
* 1 8oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened (I would stir this in a bowl until smooth and creamy. Mine was still in kind of chunks, not bad, but creamy would have been better.)
* 1/4 cup Splenda®
* 1 quart strawberries, cleaned and sliced

Preheat oven to 275°F. Grease one Pyrex pie plate and set aside.
Beat egg whites until foamy. Add cream of tartar then beat until whites stand in peaks. Add Splenda and beat for an additional minute or two. Spread the meringue evenly in the bottom of the plate and up the sides. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes in a 275°F oven, then raise the temperature to 300° and bake for an additional 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool while you make filling.
Dissolve gelatin with 3/4 cup boiling water. Stir in 1/3 cup cold water. Place in freezer for aprroximately 15-20 minutes (just until it begins to gel.)
When the gelatin is ready, whip the heavy cream until stiff (but not dry). Fold in cream cheese and Splenda. Fold in gelatin. Stir in strawberries (reserving a few for garnish if you like.) Pour over meringue shell in pie plate and let chill until firm -- about 2 hours.
Serves 8. * 5 grams per serving.

I didn't have strawberry jell-o or strawberries, so I used raspberry jell-o and berries. I think next time, I might omit the berries. It really didn't need it, I thought. Anyway, it made so much filling, that I was able to fill the crust, and still have some to freeze for later treats. I just spooned the rest into small custard cups and put them in the fridge.

Yummy!

Good attitude! It's all about not punishing ourselves when we slip up, but just picking ourselves up, brushing ourselves off, and starting up again.

By the way, your pictures are gorgeous!!!!! What a beauty you are!

And thanks for the compliments on my pictures--thats so nice of you!

I made it to the first day of BAlly's Fitness, thru the Discovery Challenge...

I'm tired, sore, and day one done!! :)

Has anyone been able to track group progress on the Discovery Health website? I'm wondering if it isn't up yet or if it's just me.... when I click on the group progress tab, I just get an empty box :confused3

It's a bit slow. The empty box should be a drop box where you can select the DDA as your group. Give it some time. I saw our workout totals but could only see 4 individuals in my window and couldn't scroll up or down to see everyone else. (I'm on a Mac, which is probably the problem.)

Nope! I had the same problem. Eventually it looked like it loaded, but just the top four + totals. No scrolling here either, on a Mac OR windows computer... and I tried 3 different browser.s :confused3

Sounds Yummy, I'll have to try it. It is so hard not to have a little sweet snack in the evenings. I did find a sugar free candy made by sweet n low. It is a cherry chocolate that is delicious. Tastes just like the boxes of cherry chocolates that I love to eat.

Kate,
Good job on losing one pound :cool1: , it is better than gaining one pound.

Oh, I know Kate I am also an emotional eater. Remember to take it one meal at a time. If you start getting stressed go for a walk, talk to someone else, cry, write, try to do something to distract yourself, so you don't think about food. Call up or talk to Nancy that way both of you aren't eating.

Since you are going to be on the road alot pack healthy snacks you can eat in the car. Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, apples, non-sugared cereal, pretzels, popcorn, low fat yogurt, bottles of water, etc. If you don't have the unhealthy food in your car you will be less likely to eat it.

Once again sending :hug: and :wizard: your way. If you need anything let us know. :rose:

Give it a try! I've been thinking all day about different combinations you could use. It would be really good with orange jell-o, and probably lemon, as well!

Are y'all going to make a seperate thread for the Autograph stuff? I want to work on a book, but would like it all consolidated. :)

I mean I want a me, me, me kind of world! :cool1:

Good morning DDA'ers. I'm feeling great this morning! I'm down 3 pounds during this last week, and feel like my workouts are accomplishing something.

For some more news, DH and I registered for the half marathon! We are paid up and raring to go! Well, it's set in stone now! I am loving the training schedule karebear1 sent along! I've shaved a minute and a half of my mile, so I'm feeling awfully good about things. DH even wants to do a practice marathon this summer here in Utah. It's not really a marathon, just a 5K (is that right?), so it should give us some good practice! I'm so excited!

How is everyone else doing?

I'm feeling great, too! I'm actually disappointed that it's raining today, so I can't go for my run/walk with Beth. I'm going to ask DH to watch the kiddos tonight so I can go to the Y and use their treadmill. I'm starting slowly, still walking most of my 30 minutes, but running in 30-second increments is a real breakthrough for me. I used to try running based on distance (like 1 lap on the track), and developed shin splints and plantar fasciitis. But 30 seconds at a time I can do! (I'm nervous about working my way up from there, but I'll build up to it.)

We're not yet signed up for the WDW 10K in October, but it's looking promising. My in-laws may be able to join us to watch the kids and cheer us on. DSIL is a marathoner, so they have lots of cheering on racing experience!

I changed my goal because the Discovery Health Challenge computer didn't like it. Apparently, I was under a "healthy" BMI before I had kids (who knew?). (I'm very small-framed.) So now my goal is only 5 pounds (instead of 8) away. But I'm going to focus more on eating healthy choices, exercising, and getting stronger than what the numbers on the scale say. Off to eat my Healthy Choice lunch!
