Jennifer I just looked at your recent pictures & the girls seem to be growing so much! What little sweethearts

Well games are not canceled yet, at the moment they are pushing the games up. So Riley's 4 pm game is now at 8pm :sad2:

:scared: I think I would rather have the 4pm game. But not in a downpour.

Am I the only mean mother that makes their kids do schoolwork during summer vacation? I got them the Summer Bridge books and they have to do one page a day. Plus read a little daily. Alyssa loves to do her workbook, but Nicholas is another story.

The summer between 4th & 5th grade the PTA bought summer packets for EVERY child in the school. They sent them home along with a note about a MANDATORY project. DS has ADD and we choose not to medicate him over the summer, so one of those workbook pages would have lasted an hour. I was FURIOUS, and I do mean white hot furious, that they sent home packets with complete disregard to individual situations. I get it - our elementary was vastly made up of kids where the homes had no books and no English. But to give DS a workbook, and a novel, and a project list and tell him he had to do it over the summer really rubbed me the wrong way. The teachers never held the kids accountable for the work so it was money down the drain for the PTA. I did make DS read the novel and do the easiest project (draw a scene from the book) but he hated every minute of it and I don't think he got an extra credit for doing it. For us, the academic year is exhaustive. All 3 of us can not WAIT for summer because we all need the break. It's not worth fighting with DS to get him to do anything over the summer.

I TRY to make DS read over the summer but he really doesn't enjoy it. He has been reading "Flowers for Algernon" for the past 3 weeks, but he isn't reading daily. He only reads if I hound him.

Mom just called. She had to go in today for a recheck on her blood pressure. They had her on meds for it for the past year or so because it was high, but it had dropped down so low they told her to stop the meds. It still sounds horribly low to me, but they told her it is OK. :confused3 She said she feels a lot better since she stopped the blood pressure meds. They also told her to stop the Arimidex while she is on chemo.

She goes Monday for her heart scan, Tuesday to have her port put in, Wednesday she calls for test results from the heart scan, and Thursday she goes for chemo if her heart scan is OK and her bloodwork on Thursday AM is OK. So lots of good thoughts are needed next week if anyone has some spare ones.

Well Nicholas still has his annoying cough, but now he has a fever of 101.5. Guess I need to figure out if I should take him to the doctor. I'm thinking it is viral but who knows.

I hope he feels better soon! :wizard:

Elin glad you were able to return the GPS, sorry about the messed up flights!

Marci I hope Andrew will be able to play more & that you are able to get some rest :wizard:

Tammi hope Nicholas feels better soon :wizard:

It is storming a little here, so now we wait to see if games are canceled :confused3

Elin, I hope I never have to fly on Delta! :scared:
I hope your new GPS arrives soon!

Janet, hopefully they will figure out what to do about the game before you have to drive over to the field! Will they still play if everything is all soggy?

You've got it! It sounds like it's going to definitely be a busy week for your family!

Any recommendations for a good movie to rent for the kids for movie night tonight? I'd like something with a good story and not animated. Since Nicholas isn't feeling well I thought we would just stay in and take it easy. He has a baseball game at 10 tomorrow morning so I think he can use the rest.

Checked with mom and the MUGA scan is not 3 hours, something else she had done was. Plenty of good thoughts for her, now and throughout the coming months. :wizard:

We just saw The Spiderwick Chronicles. It was pretty good. Leighanna kept interested during the whole movie. That says alot about a non animated movie! HTH!

Anyone have an easy dessert recipe? or have a link to Glynis's recipes? Big family cookout on the 19th, asked to bring a covered dish, but I am going to bring a dessert too.

And guess what? I am refusing to do my deviled eggs, but they don't know it yet. ;) Talked my sister into doing them and I am taking crab/cheese stuffed mushrooms.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crab Stuffed Mushroom En Croute
(courtesy Paula Dean)

1/2 cup herb flavored cheese (recommended: Boursin)
1/2 cup finely minced crabmeat (may use imitation)
18 uniform sized mushrooms, stem removed
1 box phyllo pastry (will need at least 18 sheets)
1/3 cup butter, melted
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1 egg, beaten

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Combine cheese and crab in a small bowl. Divide crab mixture among the upside-down mushroom caps, stuffing the mushrooms. Carefully lay 6 sheets of phyllo dough on top of one another, brushing every other sheet with melted butter. Cut phyllo lengthwise down the center and then cut each half into 3 pieces to make 6 rectangles. Place a mushroom, cheese side up, in the center of each square. Season with salt and pepper. Lift sides of pastry over mushrooms to resemble small bundles and form a "neck," pinching edges together to seal. Repeat the entire procedure 2 more times.

Place on a greased baking sheet and brush with beaten egg. Bake for about 15 minutes until pastry is crisp and golden. Serve hot.

It depends on just how wet the field gets, if there is lightening they do call the games off. I sat through quite a few games with Garrett where they played their games in the rain :sad2:

It has cleared up here, so the games are on. The coach wanted the players out to the park by 5pm in case they were able to play earlier than 8pm. So now I have no idea what time they will actually start. If they don't start till 8, that means all the boys have been out there for 3 hours.

I will be leaving here soon, guess I will watch the other teams play till it is time for Riley & his team.

Janet, hopefully they will figure out what to do about the game before you have to drive over to the field! Will they still play if everything is all soggy?
