Delta Airlines is the spawn of Satan. They have changed our flights AGAIN! I hate the thought of either losing my SkyMiles or paying an enormous fee to have them rebanked (or whatever they call it) and also paying a huge fee to rebook Bob's flights too. I really don't think I should have to deal with this every 2-3 days either! Last week I decided to let it ride and deal with it in 6 weeks or so. But now I feel as if by that time they will have us going to Timbuktu with a 30 day layover to get from Richmond to Orlando! :mad:

The real killer is that Airtran has flights for $70 each way that much better fit our schedule and, even with the fees, the total cost for both our flights is only $343.00. But it is the "loss" of the $263 already paid to Delta for Bob's flight and my Award Ticket booking fees that makes me angry.

ETA: By the way, Chanon... those great Airtran fares would allow us to take the 3-night cruise...

Plus a story for you to think about

An emperor in the Far East was growing old and knew it was time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or his children, he decided something different. He called young people in the kingdom together one day. He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you."

The kids were shocked! But the emperor continued. "I am going to give each one of you a seed today. One very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it and come back here after one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next emperor!"

One boy named Ling was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his mother the story. She helped him get a pot and planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it carefully. Every day he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other youths began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.
Ling kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks went by. Still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants but Ling didn't have a plant, and he felt like a failure. Six months went by, still nothing in Ling's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed.

Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Ling didn't say anything to his friends, however. He just kept waiting for his seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection. Ling told his mother that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But honest about what happened, Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he knew his mother was right.
He took his empty pot to the palace. When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other youths. They were beautiful in all shapes and sizes. Ling put his empty pot on the floor and many of the other kinds laughed at him. A few felt sorry for him and just said, "Hey nice try."

When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted the young people. Ling just tried to hide in the back. "What great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the emperor. "Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!" All of a sudden, the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front. Ling was terrified. "The emperor knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me killed!"

When Ling got to the front, the Emperor asked his name. "My name is Ling," he replied. All the kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor asked everyone to quiet down. He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, "Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!" Ling couldn't believe it. Ling couldn't even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor?

Then the emperor said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds, which would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!"

If you plant envy, you will reap trouble.

If you plant laziness, you will reap stagnation.

If you plant bitterness, you will reap isolation.

If you plant greed, you will reap loss.

If you plant gossip, you will reap enemies.

If you plant worries, you will reap wrinkles.

If you plant sin, you will reap guilt.

So be careful what you plant now, It will determine what you will reap tomorrow, The seeds you now scatter, Will make life worse or better, your life or the ones who will come after. Yes, someday, you will enjoy the fruits, or you will pay for the choices you plant today.
 
John finished in an hour, and I did it in 90 minutes. At Dreamland getting BBQ for lunch. Happy 4th of July!
 
I had NO idea! We have been there numerous times. Those two ships must not have been there when we were!

They are typically there in September, one or the other. They typically go into drydock every 2-3 years.
 
So do they sail out of there as well when they are finished?

The cruises do not sail out of the dry dock port. I will be getting off the Magic on Sept. 1, then their is a 5 day cruise that sails out of Port Canaveral to the Caribbean. Probably while those passengers are on the ship they might already start some pre-dry dock work. The Magic then sails back into Port Canaveral, the passengers get off.

Lots of workers then get on the ship, to work on it as it sails to Norfolk, Virginia. It stays there for a few weeks. It cruises back to Port Canaveral, Florida with workers still on it. On the 3 day cruise after they will probably still be finishing work on the ship. But the majority of the work is done while in dry dock.

This is what has happened in the past, from what I have read on the DIS.

Here is a short video on the changes from the last Wonder Dry dock. This time it seems like the Magic is mostly getting engine work.

Elin, I couldn't agree more with your "spawn of Satan" comment. We have stopped even considering Delta for about a year now, because everything about them (in our opinion) is just horrendous. I hope things get straightened out for you easily, and then don't change anymore! I for one like Elizabeth's idea.... :)
 
Good morning all...after 24 hours on the meds...my throat feels better. BUT, now I feel like it is turning into a massive head cold.

Our town does fireworks on the 3rd...so we spent 3 + hours sitting in a field last night....the temps were in the low 50's if you can believe that,. So I am sure that didn't help things. I just didn't want to miss the group....we meet that gourmet group each year for the fireworks. The lady running things this year really went over the top....so it was quite fun, funny & enjoyable...not your average picnic in the park.

No time to really feel sick & sorry for myself...Jonathan is coming home today!! I haven't seen him in ages...so I am excited:banana::banana:
 
What happened to the signers of the Declaration of Independence??

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.

They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. Many lost their lives, more lost their fortunes, but none lost their honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists, eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was all but destroyed and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife’s bedside as she was dying. Their thirteen children fled for their lives. His fields and gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year, he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.

I am trying to decide if I want to make the trek out to the mall that still has a Disney Store. They also have a Macy's, so I could MAYBE find some more Lauren stuff. :rolleyes1 Decisions, decisions...
 
I haven't made it to the mall since I got back...I am guess the Disney store must be closed by now. I wonder how crowded the malls are on the 4th?

Well it looks like the DDA baby boom will be continuing, Brandon is going to be a big brother! I'm hoping for a Princess, but we'll take another Pirate.

Congrats on the new baby, Debbie! I'll keep my fingers crossed for a princess!
 
Well, Sis, I would call Delta and I would be UGLY. I would ask for a supervisor, explain how many times the flights have changes, explain how that has interfered with plans at your destination, and tell them you want your money back. Now. And your Sky Miles put back for future use. Then I would book AirTran. And the cruise. :rolleyes1

Bravo, Elizabeth! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS! And I'm a very non confrontational person. Delta is getting absolutely ridiculous!

Plus, I think Elin should book the 3 day cruise!

Off to visit a bit, then tonight we're going to go to a neighboring town to check out their 4th festivities. I was so excited about the 4th that I ran out and bought this adorable "cabana" so the girls can have shade (no sunscreen and all...) .... and today it's dreary, on the verge of raining, and cold. Boo!
