DDA Chapter 8

:scared1: What happened? Ironed it too long? Old parchement paper?

I don't know. It's the same parchment paper that I used a couple of months ago. I bought the iron on paper at the same time. The only thing different that I can think of is that I used a whole sheet folded a few times vs a pillow case folded over :confused3 I just tried it again with an unwashed shirt. I used a pillow case this time. I'm letting it cool before I try to remove the paper.

The paper came off the first one in the wash, but so did some of the colors in the design :furious: I'm just thankful that I did it this week and not next Thursday night:bitelip:

My brother will be ordering the outside furnace tomorrow. We won't get it until probably September. After vacation we will need to cut, split, dry and stack about 10 cord of wood to support both houses for the winter. Hopefully we will not need any oil. The thought is that it will pay for itself in about a year and a half. Of course there will be lots of work involved, but sweat equity sounds a lot better then spending boat loads of money on oil

I hope you are all doing well. I have a busy week. But what is new.

There was a gorgeous double rainbow tonight, but I had no camera. It was on my drive home. I did get a picture but there was hardly any rainbow left.

I hope you all are having a great week.

So my projects bombed 2 for 2. I'm wondering if the ink is old? Only the pink stuck, the black areas (changed the cartridge tonight) was fine. Thankfully I used shirts that I had on hand that I paid less than $2 each for (those have been in a tote for years). So was it old transfer paper, old parchment paper, old ink or old t-shirt? I fear we will never know. I will buy a pack of Avery paper complete with the parchment paper and change the color ink cartridge as it is low anyway. Hopefully I will get a successful shirt out of it. I told Chris this shirt is my nemisis. I struggled with a design idea for the last year, finally come up with an idea, but can't make it work on a shirt :worried: :worried:

Janet - I hope you are feeling better very soon and that your water woes improve quickly too!

Amy - the last time you had a baby I was at the Outer Banks on vacation. I always think of Matty when I think of the beach. Sounds like Noah is headed out while I am in Boston this time! :goodvibes

here is the best shot of us all---only one take

Terry - I loved all your pictures but this is the one that needs to go in a frame on your mantle!

The price of Gas versus Printer Ink

All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are....

You will be really shocked by the last one!
(At least, I was...)

Compared with Gasoline......

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective..

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ...........$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ...... $33.60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ........ . $25.42 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source

(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

Ever wonder why printers are so cheap?

So they have you hooked for the ink.
Someone calculated the cost of the ink at................
(you won't believe it....but it is true........)
$5,200 a gal.. (five thousand two hundred dollars)

So, the next time you're at the pump,be glad your car doesn't run on water, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!

Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...

If you all wouldn't mind stepping up the pixie dust for the job on Wednesday...I will be talking to the Ex. Pastor then. I am hoping that means I have effectively moved to the next level in the process. I had been a goober and not attached a cover letter (can you tell I haven't done this in forever??:confused3 ) So I wrote one and used it as an excuse to remind them I had applied...it worked:thumbsup2

Since I won't get caught up tonight I'm sure, I just wanted to send boatloads of :wizard: to you!

Also to Jennifer and Kyle....CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You're girls are absolutely beautiful!!!

What time are we doing the tour? The 10:30 one? Should we make a ressie? How long is the carriage ride? Their website doesn't say much. Do they give you a bunch of history like the trolley tour?

Alyssa is staying home with me tomorrow and we are going to have a girl's day...........washing the van. :rotfl2:

I don't know... and I don't know... I don't know... and I don't know! :rotfl: You are the one on vacation so please call them and ask what we need to know! :rotfl2:

Washing the van with Alyssa sounds like fun. Wish I could do that instead of teach. ;)

I washed the t-shirt, dried it with no softner, printed the design and ironed it on. After letting it cool I pulled the parchment paper off...No wait...The damn paper would not come off. I've got the shirt in the wash now hoping to wash the paper off. And I thought I was making progress.

Well, crap! Hope you get it worked out! :wizard:

My brother will be ordering the outside furnace tomorrow. We won't get it until probably September. After vacation we will need to cut, split, dry and stack about 10 cord of wood to support both houses for the winter. Hopefully we will not need any oil. The thought is that it will pay for itself in about a year and a half. Of course there will be lots of work involved, but sweat equity sounds a lot better then spending boat loads of money on oil

I hope it is effective and saves you some money! :wizard:

I called the hospital and talked to my mom. She's doing well. Not too much pain, they brought her a normal dinner, she is able to get up and use the restroom by herself. The Dr. hasn't spoken to her - all she knows is what my aunt told her. Odd. She expects to talk to the Dr. tomorrow before she is discharged.

I talked with her a bit about Diva Girl and the plane ticket. Mom did tell her to ask me to look at fares, but Mom was going to pay for the ticket. I told her I looked but it is too much for DG to fly with me. I suggested that DG should stay HOME and take driver's ed. Mom said they need to think about it some more and come up with a plan. I think taking driver's ed is the best use of her time, because once Mom is in treatment I imagine there WILL be days where she is not feeling well enough to drive. I told Mom there may be a fare sale tomorrow, but there is no way to "hold" fares on SW - you snooze, you lose. So we'll see. Maybe if they got some COUNSELING they would get on each other's nerves less and Diva Girl wouldn't need to have a "break". Not that babysitting for someone else's toddlers counts as a "break" in my book. In fact, "out of the frying pan, into the fire" sums it up better!

Mom is in recovery.

They did a lumpectomy. Her lymph nodes are cancerous, so she will have to do chemo and radiation. :( They are keeping her overnight and she'll go home tomorrow. My aunt said they told Mom she can drive in 3 or 4 days, so she won't have too much downtime at all.
Her D&C went OK, they removed some polyps that will be sent for biopsy.

Diva Girl told me Mom said I need to look at a ticket for her to come home with me on Monday. :scared1: Excuse me? I got my ticket on a DING! for $41. Now a ticket on that flight is $147. I am NOT booking that for her! She would be coming down here to "help" my other sister with her DDs. OK, well then, my sister who was stupid enough to have 2 babies she can't take care of needs to foot the bill for the plane ticket, not ME.

I looked at fares, and if Diva Girl waits until July 1 to come down and then goes home July 22 her round trip would be $128. I told her since it is NOT an emergency that I am NOT booking her on my flight. We'll see what SW offers come out tomorrow for their anniversary. I would consider booking the $128 for her and then watching for DINGs. But I am not going to book it today. I don't appreciate being told to buy her a ticket 6 days before the flight. I also think it is silly for her to come down here during the time Mom won't be in treatment. On the other hand, I guess it is better for her to be home when Mom starts chemo in case something goes wrong.

I'm really happy to hear that your mother is doing okay.

I had the most delightful night tonight! I had put Glynis' pot roast in the crock pot for dinner tonight but when I got home at 7:00 neither Bob nor Kristin really wanted to eat "beef." Bob opted to have a peanut butter sandwich and go to bed early. Kristin and I sat outside on the patio and had a glass of wine. We discussed where we could grab something for dinner.

Heads up on this one, Tammi... We decided to go downtown to grab a quick dinner, but it was after 9:00 so many things are closed. We chose Bistro Bethem, where Tammi and I went for lunch a few weeks ago. But, as we turned to corner we noticed that the new Kybecca wine patio bar was open so we went there instead. YUMMY! They served us at 9:40, which is unheard of in our downtown area. The food was delicious, as was the wine and the location outside. Not a huge menu, but scrumptious! We decided that we would to go there at least once a week. Tammi is welcome to join us. :rotfl:

And now... it is time for bed. Good night, everyone!

Okay, because I am such a worry wart and tried calling Glynis this afternoon...no answer just a strange noise like a full tape machine and I checked back for what she said on her last post....it said she'd be back with us on the 10th.

I will try again to call her tomorrow.

Feel better Janet.

Great pictures Deb. I love the shirts. :yay:

Terry, wonderful family pic. Howie does good work.

Kristine,    My granddaughter's schoolmate died on the eve of our big trip last year. It was so hard on her. Even today she gets all anxious when her little brother eats popcorn. Her schoolmate choked on a kernel of popcorn and died.

I hope Jackie is okay. Many gentle hugs to her.

I'm off to bed. Nite all....

Welcome to the world Elise & Avery!!!!!!!!

yucky Janet....hopefully you feel better as quickly as it seems to have popped up!!:wizard:
Janet:wizard:
Here are the kids in the shirts that they painted today. We added some ribbon to summer's to girl it up and make it match her "minnie" shorts
Spring2008040.jpg

I have no idea. I think I only had it in my hand for about 30 seconds before the kids got called in.

Here's a quick Instruction sheet:

1) choose a shape
2) trace the shape onto contact paper.
3) cut out the part that you want as paint on the shirt
4) remove the backing and stick the template onto the shirt
5) place a piece of cardboard inside shirt to prevent paint from bleeding through.
6) choose a shoe with a sole design that you like. We found the denser designs worked much better. Some left way to much white shirt showing.
7) use a make up sponge or sponge brush to blot fabric paint onto the shoe sole.
8) firmly press the sole onto the shirt. overlap onto the contact paper for complete coverage.
9) repeat until entire area has sufficient coverage
10) wash hands before moving the shirt to an area for drying
11) lay project flat to dry. Follow instructions on your brand of paint
12) when dry remove contact paper to reveal final design.
great shirts and easy instructions

Beautiful picture Terry!

I sent an email to Glynis

I managed to take off the weight I gained on the cruise but have been pretty much at a standstill, so I joined the gym yesterday to "kick it up a notch", now to make myself go. I pass it on my way home from work everyday so my plan is to stop in after work, hopefully I won't make excuses not to.
Congrats on the weight loss! Good luck with the gym!

Good morning all!
Im off to work, then to my brother's softball games..today is his 22nd b irthday!
Happy Birthday to Joe!

Well, I better get off of here and get a nap in.
We are driving up to Sandusky this afternoon, visiting the park, and then staying overnight. We are spending all day tomorrow at Cedar Point, and then the long drive home.
I think I better rethink our clothing choices. It is only forcast to be a high of 65 tomorrow with scattered showers. Brrr... I was hoping for a little cooler weather, but with the lake breezes, I bet we will be cold!
Hopefully I can check back in on Thursday! I am taking the camera so I hope to have some pics to share with you.
Have fun!

Cute!

No Sox game as far as I know. But I am certainly hoping to meet Bernadette! :goodvibes We are still working out everywhere we want to go when, if that makes sense. Our first weekend is probably already taken up with a birthday party for my nephew, with possibly Sunday the 29th being open. And we are coming home on Saturday the 5th to miss some traffic issues on Sunday. Since Bernadette is a working woman too, we will have to plan very carefully around her work schedule.
I could take a day off or 1/2 a day. We have the option to work a 4 1/2 day work week in the summer (make up the extra hours on 4 long days) and can take the 1/2 day any day.

I was reading along yesterday, but I didn't have any time to post.

Very nice Beth!

They did a lumpectomy. Her lymph nodes are cancerous, so she will have to do chemo and radiation. :( They are keeping her overnight and she'll go home tomorrow. My aunt said they told Mom she can drive in 3 or 4 days, so she won't have too much downtime at all.

Glad she was able to have just the lumpectomy. Hope her other treatments aren't too bad for her.:wizard:

This is me today  I woke up with a sore throat which was giving me a earache. I was hoping to call the Dr. & just have antibiotics order, nope I had to go in. I have a very bad sinus infection which has inflamed my throat, which in turn has caused a blockage in my ear. So my ear is full of fluid. It hurts to swallow & my ear is, well hurting pretty bad. He said this has been coming on for a while, but I have not noticed any symptoms. I felt fine when I went to bed last night :confused3

He gave me some nasal spray & called in a couple of prescriptions, now I am waiting to go pick them up. I hate feeling this way & I swear the older I get the worse stuff like this hits me.
YIKES!!! Hope you can recover quickly! Sorry to hear about your water too. I got the photopass cd's yesterday. I need to put your photos on a cd and send them to you and Lindsay and Tia for her friend.

So here are a few pics.

The cake from father's day

Love the cake and the shirts! Emma has those same Mickey crocs too.

I, by chance, just found and pulled a tick out of my hairline. Now I've got the heebie jeebies and "feel" things crawling all over me. I'm so not the outdoorsy kind of girl.
YUCK! Glad you got him before he attached himself to you.

Alyssa still calls the sun "Ray" (something she picked up from Bear in the Big Blue House). We call humidity "Ray's nemesis!" :rotfl:

Oh yuck! I've never even seen a tick, but the whole concept gives me the heebie jeebies!
:lmao: Love Ray's nemesis!

Don't move here! My kids get ticks all the time.:scared1:

Back from the doctor's...

I am 3 cm dialated and 60% effaced, which of course, means nothing! :)

I am scheduled for an induction at 7:00 a.m. on July 4th. Noah could very well be a firecracker baby! :goodvibes
YAY for an end date!

Chris keeps asking me for a kitchen sink design so this is what I've come up with thus far. The background is supposed to mimmick the walls at Beaches and Cream. It will go on a grey t-shirt.
Those were great! I love the Chris picked out!

Yes, blocks definitely are education and promote cognitive development. When used in the three-year old setting they also foster interactive play which is important, because the threes start off in parallel play and move to more interactive play as they mature. There are so many skills that are developed/reinforced through block play: math (measurements, shapes, sizes, even beginning fractions, etc), problem-solving, teamwork, motor skills and more. This new director irritates the heck out of me, but I'm trying not to show it. She came in one day and put us down because none of us have masters degrees in education (and my BS isn't in education either). Of course, she never shared with us her educational background or experience. She is a church member, not a person hired as director. She has her ideas, but she doesn't have the research to back them up. I may not have a background in education prior to my 12 years experience in the preschool setting, but I have definitely done my own reading and research and have gained knowledge from many other people.

I am just going to have to maintain my composure and have the research to back up my decisions and philosophies.
:wizard: :wizard: Good luck Beth! She sounds like a winner.:confused3

What a great photo! Looks like Tink is glowing with pixie dust in that photo.

I only have a few pictures, but Chuckie just loved having his own Adirondak chair to lounge on!!!
How cute! Looks like he had a great time! Love his shoes!

Hi everyone....

Today my cell phone rang and it was Jackie's teacher....she says, "I have some bad news" In my mind I immediately thought she was going to tell me that since I pulled Jackie out of school that somehow she was going to have to repeat the 7th grade!!

Unfortunately she called to tell us that one of Jackie's classmates died!! Talk about shocking...before I thought it through, I told her....she has been perplexed the whole rest of the day.

Please keep the family of Jimmy Moore in your thoughts...I can't imagine what they must be going through
How tragic! Prayers for Jimmy's family.
