DDA Chapter 8

I have spent the better part of the morning figuring out where we are going to stop for a night for the drive in August.

Going from NYC to Orlando we are stopping in Savannah GA. We have made it there twice before so I know we can do it. I am just too old to drive straight thru anymore!:rotfl2:

Coming back home I am looking at Fayetteville NC or Rocky Mount NC.

We have marriott points from Dana's business travel so the hotel is free thankfully!

Outside of Savannah there is a Fairfield Inn that we have used numerous times. I did notice that it now has only a 2 diamond rating from AAA, though...

Coming home is always tough because there aren't a lot of Marriott properties. There is a Fairfield Inn I-95 around Fayetteville and then another one in Wilson, NC (that is located between Fayetteville and Rocky Mount). We have never used either one of those, but Fairfield Inns are usually pretty much the same and these two both have a 3 diamond rating.

Deb - you have bug problems, I have mold problems. I have someone coming on Monday to give us an estimate on the damage, which I know is going to be huge. Because the humidity that hit so early this year the mold has really popped in our basement to the point where it's causing my friend who lives with us is getting sick. She's staying at another friends for now. This should be fun. :headache:

We had the start of mold issues a few years ago. We had the dry exhaust in the basement and it was putting moisture in the air that causes mold. Once we vented it outside the issues resolved themselves. :wizard: That it isn't too bad.

The exterminator has come and gone. It was actually quick and fairly painless. I had correctly identified the pest and showed him where I have seen them. He checked the basement and didn't see any sign of them there which means we caught it fairly early. He made up some sort of spray and sprayed the baseboards and around the pipes and said that should completely take care of the issue. He did put out a few traps and he will be back in 2 weeks (a day early since we will be leaving) to make sure the problem is taken care of.

Now here is some free advice. It turns out that these pesky critters come home with us from the grocery store. They are commonly found in dry pet foods. He said that you may not notice them immediately, but if you sort through the bottom of a bag there are most likely some in it :scared1: Don't have pet...you could still be a risk as they also like cereal, flour and rice or pasta products. Ever cook macaroni and have something float to the top? That the little critter.

It is most likely that we got bad dry cat or dog food. His best advice was to have an airtight container to store the dry food. Immediately put the dry into the container and freeze it for a couple of days. That will kill anything that might be hiding and should keep the critters out of our homes.

Just an FYI they eat right through plastic baggies and given enough time they eat through plastic and wood too

He said that they are just a nuisance and really won't harm anyone or our home.

Hopefully they are all dying as we speak.

The boys had a half day today. Hunter's class had a field day and Nick's did some track and field stuff and had an awards assembly (which parent's knew nothing about). Nick has been sweating it out this quarter as teacherease was showing some B's. He said they did honors first and he wasn't called up so he assumed that he must have gotten a C. I am happy to report that he was wrong and he got High Honors for the 4th consecutive quarter. We are so proud of him.

He also took 5th place in the shotput event which he was also proud of.

Tammi :cool1: for the last day of school! I hope you enjoy your week off.

Deb glad you got the bug problem taken care of. Congratulations to Nick :thumbsup2

Chanon good luck with the mold issue :wizard:

Ditto from me!!!

Daniel just got home alittle while ago. I met him at the bus & yelled "yay last day of school!" He ran into the house teary-eyed. Once he finally started to talk he said he was going to miss his teacher & his school. :( Poor little dude. Wow, what a turnaround from last year where he would done anything to get out of school.

He did have an amazing teacher who understands kids like Daniel & that makes all the difference!

He has a birthday party tonight so that has cheered him up some.

Deb, I'm glad that the bugs are identified and, more importantly, dying as we type. :scared1: about the cat food. We usually buy such a big bag that I don't know how we could get it all in the freezer, but I think we're going to start trying. I do transfer it to an airtight plastic container.

Chanon, I hope that the mold isn't too expensive.

Tammi, YAY! for last day of school and soon-to-be time off.

Anne Marie, YAY for Daniel's last day of school and finding a place that he loves so much. I hope he has a great time at the birthday party.

Deb, CONGRATS to Nick!

 to everyone! I need to go get dinner going.

(I actually sat down and watched a movie today...I feel a little guilty. It was Juno, and it was wonderful.)

Good for Nick! :thumbsup2

Anne Marie - Poor Daniel! You'll have to make a countdown calendar for him for the first day of school! :rotfl: DS would prefer to NEVER go back to school. Can't say I blame him. Middle school - blech!

I'm going to continue organizing my house. I figure that we can maintain it for the next 2 weeks and I won't be stressing out just before we leave. It is actually looking pretty good. I even hung the Disney plates up in the kitchen :thumbsup2 I have not hung anything in the living room or hall yet. I keep thinking that I might find something on our trip and I would want the best place to put it...right ;) I might even take a few photos. You guys can ignore the airtight containers that no longer fit in the cupboard can't you.

Anne Marie sounds like Daniel really enjoyed school this year, that does say a lot for his teacher!

Deb of course we would love to see some pictures!

Hi Ya'll

What an exhausting day!!!

We had to keep calling the pool boy. He just was not fast enough with our drinks!!:lmao: :lmao:

Right now Howie is getting ready to take some pictures. The view outside is just perfect and we want to try to get some good pictures of the family.

I was in the pool all afternoon. Very relaxing.

Tomorrow we leave.
