DDA Chapter 8

A police officer was killed here in Fredericksburg late last night. A 40 yr. old man, with 2 yrs on, responded to a domestic dispute, exboyfriend armed with a gun. Bad guy was killed to, in an exchange of gunfire. It happened in an apt. complex parking lot, which is close to where Nicholas plays baseball. I feel so bad for the family.

Such a sad story. And I was "caught up" in it because I left the convention at 11:05 last night. I didn't know what was going on as I drove down Cowan Blvd. until I read it this morning. :(

This evening we had some thunder and a little rain and it is now 72º

we are having thunder now... I don't think it is supposed to cool us off much, though. 103 Sunday, 105 Monday and 102 Tuesday!

This exhausted lady is heading to bed. Night All

Jitters went to sleep very peacefully at 10 am. I was with him, and he was so calm and purring. He had a good morning today and even wanted some loving. John and I were very happy to see a glimpse of his old self for a brief moment. We are burying him under the bird feeder in the backyard in a little while. I think he would like that spot. The kids are doing very well today with it too We are going out of town for John's 20th HS reunion today, so that will help keep us all busy. I am going to miss him desperately. This was only the 2nd pet John has ever had, and he is really upset. He "hated" cats before we got Jitters, and Jitters completely had John wrapped around his little paw. He was a really good kitty and gave us 16 fabulous years. Thanks for the prayers.
Got the news that an uncle passed, but not the one I was talking about before, though it just a matter of time for him (he is back in the hospital).

Heidi-the last of my great uncles passed 2 nights ago...it kind of feels like the end of an era. Congrats on the new baby in the family

I have an unsplinted hand again....it hurts like the dickens still:headache:

For those I have missed...I didn't do it intentionally and  and :wizard: all around.
:wizard: that your wrist gets well soon

I have a happy ending to report! The little girl was invited to a pool party yesterday. When she showed up at the friend's house the mom from the party asked the girl if she was sure her mom knew she was there and she told her yes. The little girl walked to the party directly from school and she did not have a bathing suit or towel. Once the helicopters were circling, the party mom had an "Aha" moment and called the girl's mom. I am very glad she was found safe!!
glad to hear she was found safe.

Uncle1 e-mailed me that they are all set to go to Seattle for the cruise to Alaska tomorrow. He was all stressed out because they have to bring formal wear and there are no irons on the ship. :rotfl: It sounds like they have it all pulled together now. I hope they have fun. Uncle1 has wanted to do this FOREVER, but Uncle2 gets horribly motion sick so I know he is worried. Maybe if they have a good time they can convince DH to try a cruise sometime.

perfect time to be there, Becky!

There is another one at the end of June. I would take that one instead except it is Saturday and Sunday. But it also has a 2.5 hour session the Monday before. Sorry, but I am not driving to VA for a 2.5 hour session, it will take me longer then that to get there.

There is also one in Lake Placid, NY at the end of the month but that is more expensive and like 3 hours further away. So this one seems to make the most sense. Plus I am already going to be in NY in July for work.

They should be able to send their formal wear out to be pressed so it is neat and wrinkle free.

How many of your teachers gifts for the end of the year?

That would have been good to know yesterday! :rotfl2: He went out and bought a brand new garment bag. But he travels for work all the time so I am sure he will use it.

I didn't do any end of the year gifts this year. I did gift cards at Christmas, and except for one, he had the same teachers all year. From what I have heard (and read on other threads) middle school teachders don't receive many gifts.

Have you read anything about elem. teachers?

Elin - you will be happy to know that I took Alyssa to an open house this afternoon at Stage Door. They were celebrating their 10 year anniv. They had cake and punch and were supposed to be giving door prizes. When we get there Nicholas asks the lady "what are the door prizes?" It seems they had 'forgotten' that they put that in the advertisement, and didn't have anything. But she wrote us out a coupon good for a family 4-pack to see Oliver! next month. Mr. Jarnecke is playing Fagan, and his grandson, who was on Nicholas' soccer team this spring, is Oliver. I'm so excited to see this. We did that musical in high school, so I know ALL the words. My kids will get annoyed at me for singing along.

OK, I am thinking about taking a Leave No Trace training being held there in October. So I was just wondering.
That is the BEST time to be there. But give yourself LOTS of travel time. The roads get plugged up with the 'leaf peepers'.

The boys are finally asleep, and Alyssa is in my bed sleeping. She and I get to have a sleepover since Nicholas has his friend here. They watched Firehouse Dog tonight and seemed to enjoy it. We had pizza for dinner and popcorn during movie time. I guess I'll get to bed too. Josh's mom is coming at 8:30 to get him, as it is his sister and dad's bday and they are having an extended family breakfast. Goodnight!

If I remember correctly, "Teacher Appreciation Week" is VERY close to the end of the school year. I would have done something for that OR for the end of the year, but not for both.

Actually, I did Barnes & Noble gift cards for DS's 3 "core" teachers last year. I remember walking in with him on the last day, and thanking his teachers for a great year. 5th grade was really good for him. I didn't do anything for the "support" staff, like the art teacher (who they hardly ever saw), the PE coach, etc.

Momboss did AmEx gift cards for Princess's 2 preschool teachers.

In the past, i have gotten gift cards, for the most part

I can tell you from personal experience that a homemade thank you card is the perfect gift! :goodvibes

Gift cards are nice too, but certainly not expected! ;)

Alyssa's preschool teacher said the homemade picture DVD was the best gift she has ever received. I'm sure that was just flattery, but it was a nice compliment for all of Kevin's hard work. :)

We watched Spiderman 3 tonight. Some day we'll be cool like Elin, going to see blockbusters at the theater again. :cool2:

At least I have a cool post count. Goodnight DDA!
