DDA Chapter 8

I just received a very sad phone call from one of Garrett's friends. Remember the boy who broke our front window last year? His father died this morning of a heart attack. I feel so sad for Jacob :sad1:

Oh, Janet. That is horrible news. That poor family. :sad1:

Sounds like you got a lot done yesterday :thumbsup2

I have no idea how hot it got here as I was out in it and never looked at a thermometer. It was HOT. The kids and I agreed that it was Disney hot :rotfl2:

So what can one family accomplish in 11 hours :confused3

Elizabeth prayers that all goes well

As our ticker keeps ticking I am getting nervous again. I was nervous that our trip would be ruined by bad bus service. Now I am worried about my mom being OK. When this started it seemed like there was ALL this time before the trip, but with all of the waiting it feels like we are almost right on top of the trip. Her surgery is barely 6 weeks before our departure. I don't feel quite as guilty as I did, but now I am worried. :worried:

That's terrible! His family will be in my thoughts!

Elin - Glad you enjoyed the movie! I am sure you are NOT losing your edge as a teacher! I think people are just cutting back on gifts because their budgets are getting squeezed.

Speaking of music teachers, the middle school had 3 teachers this year. The main band director, the percussion teacher, and a third guy who was technically the brass instructor. The brass guy used to teach elementary band but the program was cut. :( I have said before that the lack of communication from the main guy drives me batty, and I think the brass guy didn't agree with the way things were being run. No practice cards required, that kind of thing. At the band concert he announced he is leaving DISD. I saw him the next morning when I was going to DS's awards ceremony and I asked him where he is going. He said he had 7 offers on the table and the lowest paying one would be an annual increase of $13,000! :scared1: That is a shame, because he is a great guy and DS really liked him. The school has lost a fabulous teacher, but I don't blame him one bit!

Tammi - I wouldn't worry too much about gifts for the teachers. A nice thank-you card should do the trick!

Theresa - Enjoy your passes! I hope your wrist continues to feel better!

Jen - So when are you going back to Alaska? :hyper:

From reading posts from folks who just came back it sounds like the crowds are starting to pick up. And from looking at resort availability it doesn't look like the crowds will be diminishing EVER! This could be the trip where I actually notice the crowds!

I highly doubt that you are becoming a lousy teacher :goodvibes

Either I am becoming a lousy teacher, or people are listening to me when I say I don't want anything or they are cutting back.

I will be changing my habits for Aug. & become a very early morning girl! I am glad we have all been plenty of times before & will not feel the need to do & see everything, I think we will be taking it very slow.

We all tend to be morning people anyway, so it works well for us. Of course with DH he could get up at his normal time and MK would still be open for EMH! :rotfl2: But since he won't be going to bed at 7:30 PM I don't think he'll be getting up at 1 AM! I need to look at our park days again, even though our resort plans are still up in the air.

Elizabeth prayers that all goes well

Thank you!

OK, I have never heard of this place, but this is where the NFMC Convention will be held next year in Orlando:

http://www.rosenplaza.com/

Hmm. Rosen is the name of the hospitality program at UCF. I wonder if this is affiliated with the college somehow?

Elin glad you enjoyed the movie last night & :cool1: for Disney next June!

Elizabeth - My mom had a lumpectomey and the removed her sentinel lymph node, she didn't have any mobility problems from this surgery. Unfortunately they found cancer in her lymph node and then scheduled her for the full mastectomy. While doing her blood work for the second surgery they found too much calcium in her blood, which led them to find that the cancer had spread to her bones. She didn't have the second surgery as it would have been pointless, but went through radiation and was put on tamoxiphen. She did have nausea issues with the radiation as one of the areas they were treating was very near her stomach.

My MIL had a lumpectomey followed by radiation and did very well with it, the difference in the two was how early the cancer was found, it really sounds like your mom will do as well as MIL, I'll say a prayer for her that that is the case.

I need to get ready for work, have a great day all!

Thanks, guys. It was said "tongue-in-cheek" but I appreciate the assurance from my friends. :goodvibes

Does it annoy anyone else when a parent picks up their kid after a sleepover and leaves without reminding the kid to say thank you? Or am I being overly particular about it?

I don't have a lot of ecpectations for August, just looking forward to meeting everyone. I think after the heat and crowds of August we'll appreciated November even more.

We'll definitely be drinking lots of water.

It's been a long time since I had a little one with a sleepover, but yes the least they could do is say thank you.

I have a mountain of laundry to tackle today, it's amazing how adding one person can more than double your laundry.

Thanks, Debbie! They have looked at her bones and the scan was clear. The most likely place it would have spread is her uterus, but after 3 biopsies it appears that it may still be confined to the breast and/or nodes. They will know in the OR if the nodes are positive, and if they are I think she will have a mastectomy instead of a lumpectomy. All along the surgeon has spoken like it will just be one surgery, and they'll make the call when they get in there. Arimidex is the same as Tamoxifen, but for post-menopausal women. The oncologist had said if her lymph nodes are clear that she won't have to have chemo, so that would be really good.

I would have said something to prod the child into a thank you or embarrass the mom into a reminder. DS and Princess are ALWAYS expected to say thank you, even if it is just a play date.

We're excited about meeting everyone! DS was asking who will be there.
I have been known to drink an entire bottle of Evian at TS dinners. The big, glass bottle. I think it's 1 liter? For some reason the waiter always looks surprised. :rotfl:

Heidi, after I told DS about your love of root beer and PLAIN vanilla ice cream he was hoping you would join us! You could still book a quick trip for August, you know...:rolleyes1

Janet,

I cannot even imagine what Jacob is going thru

I finished the laundry yesterday. Today I need to go get groceries (I swear I JUST did that!) and clear off the counter.

DH just came in. He is already finished for the day!

Hmm. Rosen is the name of the hospitality program at UCF. I wonder if this is affiliated with the college somehow?

Could be... or it could be a coincidence that the names are the same. I cannot find anything on the hotel's website to indicate a connection to UCF or vice versa. I know at most hotels with those affiliations there will be a mention of that connection.

I bet Becky will know!

I would be too. Today, it seems a lot of kids and parents too forget the simple things. Please and thank you go by the wayside.
