DDA Chapter 5

Jennifer, I hope if you make it to the church, you make it safely!

This reminds me of when my SIL got married. She got married on April 4th. Wanted a Spring wedding with spring flowers, and pastel colors.

Well, on the day of the wedding a freak snowstorm hit dumping 24 inches of snow. Needless to say, only a few people were able to attend. She had TONS of food left over, and lots of other things too. We felt so bad for her, but this was 18 years ago, and they are still happily married. So much for bad Karma!

I remember trying to drive home from her wedding. We live about 4 hours north of her. It took us over 24 hours to get home, most of which were spent overnight on a closed interstate, trying to stay warm with our car slowly running on fumes!

Stay safe everyone! Stay home and enjoy the time with your families!

Being the geeks we are, we definitely filled up immediately (even though we didn't need to for this particular drive), brought blankets, water bottles, food, etc :rotfl:

The drive ended up being fine. I live in Northern Butler county, and we always get significantly more than the city or anything inside 275. I think it's a combination of being northwest, and old farmlands (so totally flat). As soon as we got out of the county, it was decent. Certainly not clear, but very very travelable... and it helps that there weren't a lot of people out!

Surprisingly, about 80-100 people showed up. I'm sure they had planned for more (the hall especially looked empty!) but I was impressed with that... I really thought it would be the people IN the wedding, and maybe some extended family. Kelly was beautiful and happy though, and I know that if she was yesterday, then it doesn't matter -- nothing matters as much after!

Right now, they are landing at WDW (or actually, probably already at Caribbean Beach)! Lucky jerks! ;)

The drive home was a bit different, it was COMPLETELY clear (the snow had stopped several hours earlier) until Butler County. Then we were worse, because it had apparently snowed a bit longer, and it was later so had started to refreeze, etc.

The tri-state area is now under a flood watch until about Wednesday, because it's supposed to jump up to 60 in about 48 hours, melting this stuff QUICKLY. It better stay that warm, that's all I have to say!

Denise, Lynn, etc - the whole drive there, we decided that Georgia is still the best place to live ;) Everywhere else we thought of all sorts of weather disasters that could strike..... but aside from droughts, etc, it seems most years there are just perfect. (And 22 days until Opening Day! )

Heres a website i am working on. i wanted to get shockers page done first.

Very nice Karen! I hope you find the birthstone dog you are looking for!

Hi Tom!! I love your Leigh's outfits. You need to change your line of work!

We keep telling him that!

hey guys--i need some prayers
A tornado just went through not too far away from--actuially in the city dad is a firefighter in. He was out to dinner with one of the chiefs and my mom and they just got called in ...Theres nothing on tv/internet yet--it apparently juts happened 20-30 min ago..but no one knows the extent yet, and my dad, uncle, and my firemen are there--

I'll say it again... tornadoes are too close to my heart and life for comfort. I hope everything is settled this morning, and your family and firefighter brothers are all ok! :goodvibes

Science Fair Board Completion Day is over and the Science Fair Board is NOT complete! The flippin' power kept going out this afternoon with all the wind we're having. I was halfway through typing the procedure and I lost it. My paperweight of a desktop computer takes forever to reboot. So I eventually got tired of fighting with it and gave up. The only thing left to do is type up the results and conclusion. I think I'm going to retype the procedure, AGAIN, and have Nicholas put it in more of his words. As it stands I think it sounds too 'adult'.

Then in the midst of all of that I burnt dinner. Really bad. I was making country fried steak in a skillet on the stove. All the water in the pan had evaporated and it was black and crispy on the bottom. So we all ended up going out.

I hope everyone had a good day.

Don't forget to spring forward!

How frustrating! I hope you got some rest, and can get it completed today!

I had to chuckle at this... When we lived in Ohio (and Kristin was born at Miami-Valley Hospital in Dayton) we called natives from that great state "Ohisians" (prounounced O-hee-shuns). We still call Krisin our little Ohisian.

That's really funny... I've definitely never heard that one before! Ohioans is all I've heard.

Good morning!

Hi Sally, I'm Amy. :wave2: I'm a former high school communications teacher, now SAHM to Alyssa (almost 4), Matthew (20 months), and soon-to-be arriving Noah (July 2008). I'm married to Kevin (who stumbled across the original DDA thread back in 2005). He's an assistant prosecutor and President of Sharonville City Council (suburb of Cincinnati). We're friends with Jennifer (Tink2020) and her DH, Kyle, in real life. And, of course, we're huge Disney fans...we finally bought into DVC in 2007 and our second trip "home" will be in January 2009. :)

Amy forgot to mention that we're SUCH good friends, we decided to plan for babies on the same day!

;)

No I actually like to think she got lucky and ended up with the same due date, because she likes us so much. We had it picked out first! :teeth:

Good Morning DDA,

I hope to hear that everyone is fairing well with all this crazy weather.

Tammi - sorry about the dinner, I have had to throw out more than one dinner over the years. We have also sat down, tried it and decided it was time to make sandwiches, :lmao: .

I'm trying not to let my medical bills overwhelm me, but when I got the statement for one of the three labs for bloodwork and it was $796.00, it took my breath away. It shouldn't be nearly as much after the insurance, get's a hold of it though, but this is just the beginning. I had put off scheduling my Smash and Bash because of all this, but since my deductible starts over in July I guess it would be wiser to get it done before then.

So to take my mind off of that I have started making November plans, since DHS is our favorite we always make it our first full day, well I don't think it will be this year as our first full day is part of Super Soap Weekends, :scared1: , looks like we may start with AK. I signed up for TGM yesterday, has anyone used him before, if so what do you think? I also went ahead and booked our flights, they went up $5.00 from the first time I checked them, and then the returning flight was already filling up. We had talked about driving, but I REALLY don't want to, so I went ahead and booked it.

DH and I made a HUGE mistake last year, we were in Atlanta for our layover when they asked for volunteers to take the next flight, by the time we hashed it out it was too late. We would have been on the next flight, only an hour later and we would have received 2 free roundtrip flights in exchange. I won't make that mistake again!

Tia - Yeah for Disney money, and yeah for ME time!

And the grand total is......
Picture090.jpg

Jen, what's the latest update on the tornado damage? I'm praying there were no casualties! Did you wait up until your dad got home?!

Amy -thanks for asking..I was up til midnight waiting for my dad--everyone is okay and there is damage but it was not too bad

Yikes, Chanon! I took a few pictures yesterday, but it was obviously dark. I'm going to try this morning to get a few more before it starts melting/compacting. I really don't know what our total is. We had a lot of wind (apparently that's a requirement to be called a "blizzard"? You learn something new every day!), so we have some weird places. About 10 feet out from my house, we still have grass  because the house must have blocked it. Other places have a ton of snow.. I'll try to figure out what measurements they came up with, or measure somewhere more flat and less obstructed. I don't have any idea how much we got, but I don't think it's much more if any more! A lot of the reason the roads were so bad in some areas (especially east of me) was ice, not a ton of snow. Who knows. I'm tired of it all, and I think the whole state is, too! :)

Good morning, DDA!

Jennifer - Glad you made it to and from the wedding safely!

Debbie - The lab bill for my pap last year was over $300, but I only had to pay like $17. I hope the insurance picks up most of yours, too!:wizard: Yay for Novermber planning! I noticed the flight for DH changes by about $5 over the weekend, then it goes down during the week. But the plane is still almost empty. I refuse to buy a seat on an empty plane for $180 one way!

Chanon - Holy cow! SIXTEEN inches!:scared1:

I still need to go to the grocery store, do laundry, and pick up DS's other glasses. I am watching a ton of camera lenses on EvilBay but we only have a bid on one. Our bid didn't meet the reserve price so we are back to watching. That lens has "Buy It Now" but we can't seem to decide if that's what we want to do.

Good Afternoon from SNOWY Ohio!
Yikes it is still snowing and blowing! We are now under a level 3 snow emergency as well!

I am very surprised, but the mailman actually delivered mail today!

Leighanna was very surprised with a gift from Robyn! Robyn, you and the girls just made this day for Leighanna!

She loves her Hannah Montana PJs. She loves them so much that she gave them a big hug. Not an easy task to hug PJ's.

She is wearing her Mickey bracelets, and wants to put her hair scrunchies in too. She LOVES her card. Marie is one of her favorites!

Again, Thanks Robyn! You brought a little warmth and sunshine to my little girls heart in such a cold and snowy day!:lovestruc

I'm so glad that Leighanna liked everything. :goodvibes It obviously can't compare to your custom dresses. But the Emma and Molly did pick everything out themselves especially for her. I love the image of her trying to hug her pj's, too cute! And :yay: for it coming on such a yucky day. It's always nice to get a surprise on those kind of days.

Chanon, that bib is really cute! Have fun at the shower and encourage your friend to make sure all bibs are secured when she does the laundry, because velcro sticks to everything in the dryer!

Karen, I hope you hear some good news on the job front soon.

Deb, :wizard: for high grade syrup, though the real stuff is way too sweet for me! ;)

Hope you got a good night's sleep, Elin.

Jen, what's the latest update on the tornado damage? I'm praying there were no casualties! Did you wait up until your dad got home?

Tia, yay for "me" time. You do so much for your family...you need to treat yourself more often.

Tammi, sorry about dinner and science fair frustrations. I hope today goes more according to plan.

Elizabeth, good luck resolving things with State Farm!

Neat pictures Becky and Chanon.

What an emotional week for you, Robyn. I hope you're resting up a bit this weekend!

Thinking of you, Theresa!

Thanks for the update, Denise. Sending lots of :wizard: your way!

Jen, we need a wedding update! I'm sure you're exhausted!

Good morning to all! :wave2: Hope you all have a nice Sunday!

Thanks Amy! And such you gave such a great recap I am going to ditto it.

Debbie - I use TGM for every trip. I plan the days according to his best days chart.

Jennifer - I am glad the drive and the wedding were accomplished without incident! Our local NBC weatherman was talking about all the snow you and Chanon and Tom got.

Jen - I was awake in the night wondering about your area. Glad to read that all is fine with your loved ones.

Debbie - I have used TGM for every trip since he developed the site. His Best Days and quick updates have saved more than one WDW vacation for us.

and for more good news--my brother is home! he was in florida all week and travelning home for the last day or so when it was nasty out..i woke up and he was here--so im glad he got home safely

I just wrote a nasty letter to State Farm. We got a notice today saying they cancelled DH's old policy effective February. Um, no, it was cancelled in DECEMBER. And they will refund the premium AFTER my NEXT payment clears my bank!:headache:  UNacceptable.

And everything has to go through the stupid agent's office. There is no phone number or e-mail to contact a billing office to try to fix it, I have to keep calling my agent so she can call and try to get it fixed. I have HAD IT with this crap about calling the agent and hoping she will fix it. I have threatened to cancel ALL of our policies (2 cars, 3 life, and renter's) if they can't get this fixed. I am so angry that they are so incompetent!

Call or email the insurance commissioner! I wouldn't fool around with them.
Good morning!

Good morning, DDA!!

Chanon - 16" Wowzers! I love deep snows (presuming they are followed up by quick melts like we had last week.)

Jennifer - Glad you made it there and home safely. How nice that she had a decent turnout.

Debbie - I'm sure insurance will cut that down, but I know how hard it is to get those shocking bills. :faint:

Deb - Glad it was a good night at work and a good boil. Sounds like you may have a nice syrup year.

Jen - Glad the dangers from the storm were minimal and  that your bother is home safely.

:wave2: everyone else.

Not much going around here right now. Taking it easy and getting a little laundry done this morning. Making some taco soup for lunch (yum!) since Dad is gone and I don't have to worry about making him a separate no-bean batch. I'm thinking about just hanging out on the computer half the day to finish my disc burning and reorganizing my music since I added ALL of my music from my laptop the other day. Otherwise, it may just be a lounge and read kind of day before tackling the big projects starting again tomorrow.

Anything exciting planned for anyone else?
