DDA Chapter 5

DH and I have just had a huge epiphany moment. It is completely conterproductive for us NOT to have DS on his ADD meds over school breaks. DS just doesn't have the impulse control to think about his actions before he does things, then we get mad at him. The he feels bad and gets upset and we all go round and round. I think that from now on we won't be taking breaks from meds. I want to see if I can tell a difference in DS's mood and attitude. I tend to think I will. If not then we can think about not having him take meds over the summer.

hope it works out for your family....ADD meds can be so tricky to figure out

Has anyone seen Michael Clayton? or August Rush? They are both on PPV tonight. I might watch one.

I saw August Rush and enjoyed it. However I still feel like I am waiting for a proper ending. I guess I want more to see more of an ending then what the movie shows. :3dglasses I really enjoyed the music in this movie. I have not seen Michael Clayton.

Is it possible that the science fair projects look too professional? In our school system if it looked too good, then the teachers suspected that the kids didn't do their own projects which got points knocked off.
Bob and I were discussing that. The information packet did state that parents were permitted to type things out for students, as long as it was the student's words. I'm hoping they aren't penalizing for doing this, instead of being handwritten, when we were told that we could do it. There was also a parental involvement form that had to be filled out stating how much help the student had, and that was attached to the back of the board. At least I know for next year.

your thinking like a grownup.....I think it would be cool to see:rotfl: In fact I may just do that to figure out which one is attracted or if both are. That whole positive and negative charge thing always gets me....of course I could play with magnets for HOURS!!:rotfl2:

Yes but IMO they should have tried other different spices/objects to see what the static electricity attracts, if anything else. I have done the salt/pepper thing with pre-schoolers and first graders and in 15 minutes they know what happens. I know Nicholas spent more time on his project then that.

I am not telling what sticks or doesn't stick, you will have to try it and figure it out yourself.;)

The point of the project shouldn't be WHAT sticks, but WHY. And I don't think a second grader is going to be able to get into that much depth. Like I said, this project didn't PROVE anything, so it is on the same level as making a model.:confused3

Tammi - I would think typing it would be better than having it hand-written! DS has never written his board components out by hand - just the graphs. And that is because I am not computer savvy enough to do the graphs!:rotfl2:

Me, either. What did it PROVE? What was the point in doing that? What is the molecular difference between salt and pepper particles? And what was the control there? Completely violates the scientific method!:headache: That is precisely why I get SOOO irritated with Science Fair.
I guess her question was "which will attract to static electricity?" and the hypothesis was "I think xxx will attract." Beats me. :confused3

And a 3rd place winner in another classroom was survey on 2 brands of popcorn. She popped Jollytime and Ka-Pop, fed them to people and noted the results. "I think more people will like Ka-Pop."

Next year I won't worry so much about his Science Fair project being so...............science-y. :rotfl:

Then you are definitely covered. I'd be interested in seeing the top 3 projects to see if they had any typing or anything. Do you get to see them all? I'd take a close look at that kind of thing for next years.

No. Nicholas could only tell me which won 1st place. He couldn't remember the others. And this one had already been picked up by the time we were at the fair. Or else I just don't remember seeing it. I'll have to ask him more about it.

As a teacher wannabe, I'd rather see a project that isn't as science-y or polished that the student did from beginning to end rather than a project that you can tell the parents pushed and did much of the thinking and doing. The student that learned more is the one that may not have been as science-y but understands the process. As a kid, it used to drive me crazy that the more professional projects got the awards and I knew that the kid didn't do it and didn't understand their experiment. I was happy to see that the girls school took that into consideration.

One more crazy week is over. Since last Saturday I drove over 1200 miles, I could have made it to WDW and beyond in that mileage.

I am exhausted. Every single day but Wednesday I have ended up somewhere else besides just the office. Next week my schedule is much calmer as most people are prepping for Easter and not having meetings and events.

One of my service unit managers had 2 strokes. She has been a volunteer for 40 years and the things she does exhausts me. I hope this convinces her she needs to slow down some, but I am doubtful. Last spring she was diagnosed with Breast cancer, she broke her foot at some point since I started working there, she has had an infection around her eye, she needs hand surgery but she keeps plowing forward. Without all of her volunteer opportunities I think she would be lost.

I finally have all the information to do my taxes. Well I am still waiting for a 1040 but I know what I need off of it. So I hope to accomplish my taxes this weekend. But I need to open my Roth IRA before I finish them, well I want to. So perhaps I have to go open that this weekend as well.

I thought of that after I typed it out....I thought ohhhhh...what about chili powder or, or:rotfl2:

I know Nicholas worked hard on his project too...I hope you don't think I am discounting his work Tammi. :flower3:

Bernadette sorry to hear you are still not feeling well. Seems like this has really been hanging on
Thanks! It really hasn't been fun.

:confused3 Sorry but that does not sound like a 1st place winning project to me.
or me:confused3

I also don't want you thinking I'm discounting Nicholas' work. I know how hard he worked on it. He had a great idea and did a great job. I don't mean to sound like I'm putting any project down.

No, I don't think that at all. I do appreciate your comments on it. It gives me other points to think about.

Looking for suggestions.

I'm going to take Bethany shopping tomorrow to get her dad something for his birthday. I know her mom won't do it, and since Bob is going to be working on my car, I figure that's a perfect way to entertain her for awhile. Any ideas on something little but memorable?

usually whatever a kid gets their dad is great...my girls like giving dad PEZ dispensers (because he collects them). Does Bob collect anything small like that???

How about a book that they like reading together???

picture frame?? With a picture of just the two of them.

I was going to suggest the "Book of Bob" but our Borders doesn't have it in stock. :(

Glad next week is calmer!

:wizard: for your service manager!

:wizard: Good luck with your taxes. I need to do mine too. I got the software loaded and my W2 loaded up. I like the refund it is showing now but I know it won't be that high in the end.

And that is because I am not computer savvy enough to do the graphs!:rotfl2:
Oh they are super easy! You've got to figure it out or he should. You could go crazy with them!!!!!

Congrats to both Debbie and Marci! Looks like you both did very well this week. :)

Tammi - You can drive yourself up a tree trying to work out why the winning projects won. As long as DS gets a good grade on his projects I don't care if he wins because I know the judging is so screwy. And next year probably won't be like this year, so don't worry too much about that, either!:rotfl2:

Bernadette - DH is having a big time with that 50 mm lens. I am sure he will let you have a turn with his cameras in August. He doesn't want a gorilla pod because the big lens is too heavy to go on it. He wants a tripod that is big enough to hold the camera but small enough to go in the lockers at all 4 parks. :)
Luckily there just aren't many things in my life that need to be graphed, so I think I can remain clueless in that aspect.:lmao:

Becky - You have a crazy life! I hope you can find some time for yourself now and then! Good thoughts for the volunteer lady!:wizard:
