DDA Chapter 26

Deb-I often come out of interviews thinking they have gone brilliantly...and still don't have a job. I had two that I thought were horrid but I was on the short list (might have been the top prospect but I have a horrid credit score and that is one of the criteria) for one so maybe that is what I need a bad interview on Tuesday...I am desperate I need to get a job and don't care where it is.

Hope Nick's shots go better and his acne gets better...been there done that, have the scars to prove it.

Our internet was down last night and we were busy all day building the closet then work. I finally have a moment to post.

The second interview went brilliantly and they actually offered me a job. Pros: Nice family atmosphere, upward mobility (possibly my own store:confused3) job variety, using my management degree

Cons: varied hours including 2 days per week, 2 nights per week and one weekend shift. 1 week vacation after 1 year, 2 weeks after 2 years and that is it...forever. I would be hired as part time for 30 - 60 days at $10/hr then if I fit the job and the job fits me, they would make me full time as a department manager. I have no idea which department or what the pay increase would be. It's "negotiable" by I've already been told that it would be less than $15/hr. The health insurance is "fabulous" though they didn't have specifics and it would cost me $189/WEEK  That means I'd need to work about 25 hours per week just to cover health insurance.

After tossing it around we've decided that it is not a good fit for me or my family. The starting wage is low for this area. Because I'm committed to the restaurant for Monday and Tuesday nights through the end of the year it would mean that I would work a minimum of 4 nights, 4 days and one weekend shift which means I'd see Chris and the kids less than I do now and working full time was so we could be on the same schedule. We would not be able to vacation often or for long. Weekend camping trips gone...I can't figure out how we could make it work.

I'm disappointed, but I'll keep applying and I still have the other 2 jobs that I've already interviewed for that are still possibilities.

Good morning! I tried to get on the boards a couple of times yesterday and couldnt--weird!
Its a chilly Sunday here--so not raedy for this fall weather..

Deb-i hope something that fits your family comes along soon!

Good Morning. Chris got up and put the first layer of mud on the closet :goodvibes He must love me as he knows how much I hate to do that. I need to get the table saw out and cut the lower shelves. Maybe we'll even get the door in tonight:confused3

Debbie-your trip is coming up quick!:cool1:

Theresa-:wizard:good luck with your job search!

Deb-sorry the Paper Company didn't work out. I can't imagine going to just 2 weeks of vacation. I used to work for a very small company. I started with 3 days, got 1 week after a year, 2 weeks at 5 years and that was it. I started where I am now with 3 weeks and after 5 years you get an extra day until you hit 30 days-I'll be at 29 days next year plus non smokers get an extra day. I think I might end up loosing a day this year as my anniversary date is 11/4. I'll carry 5 days over to next year but I have 6 days left and I don't see how I can take any time off between now & then.

Can't wait to see your closet!

Jet Blue flights are open through 9/6/11. I got an email Friday saying they were going to open their schedule Monday. I had a "pact" with Dorinda to call her at midnight so we could book but it seems like they opened the flight up around 9:00am. Dorinda is in church so I don't want to book without her. I called my other friend Kathie. The flights there are $99 but the flights home are all $148 except 6:50am and 6:00pm-landing in Logan at 9pm. She & I both agree the 6pm flight would be a good one. This is for a Wed 5/11 to wed 5/18. Guess I should go book a room too. It will be nice to have a trip booked even if it is 200+ days out.

Hello all :) Anyone have a Wii fit plus with the board that you no longer want & would like to sell? I am looking to buy one & have been keeping an eye on Ebay. Thought I would check here as well.

:wizard: & to all!

Deb cant wait to see pics of the closet.

I can't wait to have it done and be able to put all the stuff away. I'm really excited about how much space we ended up with. All of the shelves are cut and some installed. The rest will have to wait until the walls are finished. I was hoping the mud would dry quicker so we could put a second coat on, but it's taking it's own sweet time. I'm at a standstill. Part of me wants to vacuum, but I know that I'm going to end up with drywall dust so it doesn't make sense.

Hello Janet :wave2: We still use our wii fit occassionally.

Bernadette I hope you get the flights that you want.

Bernadette I hope you get the flights that you want.
Thanks! I was able to book the flights we wanted for $238 which isn't too bad these days. We've already decided to spend the night at the Logan Hyatt the night before so we can relax there before the trip starts instead of getting up at the crack of dawn and hope for no traffic issues. The flights that had been open through 5/3 had a 8am flight and a 10am flight but for 5/11 we were able to book an 8:45am flight. The 4pm flight coming home was $30 more so we booked the 6pm flight that arrives at 9pm. More time at Disney.

It's nice to have this to look forward to. Just have to get through the crunch at work then my surgery then year end crunch.

I should go work on Halloween costumes. I sent work home too and could do some of that to help make tomorrow a bit less stressful. I would rather plan dining for my trip. I can make ADRs on 11/12. I want to plan something special to do since it is a big bday celebration. I'm thinking either the new tour in AK or an Illuminations cruise.

:wizard: & to all!

Nice to see you!

We don't have a wii fit. We only have a few games and just 1 remote. I was going to order more remotes and games from Santa.

I want to be done with Christmas shopping before my next surgery.

Here's what I've got or have planned.

Lizzy: Nintendo DSi. Her Nintendo isn't tracking right and we've tried recalibrating it but that doesn't fix it. I really don't think she needs a computer yet-would rather keep control with them using my Mac or notebook. She's not that into music so I don't think she needs an ipod. I think she'll be very happy with the DSi. I'm leaning toward the XL. I also get her perfume & a T at Aeropastale, Red Sox & Patriot Ts, snow gloves, Pook a Looz toy to match her Pooh Pook a Looz we got at WDW,...I thought she'd be the hardest but she's the easiest so far. I also know she'd LOVE fleece sheets. I might suggest that to SIL for her. I don't know if the other 2 would like them or not.

Joe: Night vision binoculars, new Sherman Brother DVD coming out in Nov, Digital voice recorder-he wants a tape player but he will love this! I saw one at BJs but that only recorded in wma so he'd need to convert the files for my Mac. I got a Sony that records in MP3 and connects with a USB. Jeff Lange DVDs, Apples to Apples Disney edition, Pixar book, ....his birthday is less than 2 weeks after Christmas so I need stuff for that too

Emma: I got her a bunch of Schleich toys including a Safari truck and even though I spent a fortune I feel like she needs something else. I got her a Lego airplane but was thinking of giving her that for her birthday-it might make a bigger impression at Christmas & I can keep some of the Schleich for her bday. I think I'll get her a Webkinz as she has never had one. I was thinking of getting all 3 of them Webkinz hamsters for their stockings but I want to get her a dog too. I want to get Wii Petz Sports that I know she'll love-maybe I'll but that in her pile rather than with the "group" Wii stuff.

I make or buy the kids PJ's and give them to them every Christmas eve. Last year I made them PJ's. I don't know that I'll be up for that this year. I ordered Emma & Lizzy fleece Scottie Dog PJ's on clearance from Lands End. Then the next day I got an email that all clearance items were another 20% off so I called and they said they would issue me a credit. So they were $10 each. I haven't found any for Joe yet. After I ordered I thought I should get Halley some for Christmas as they only have electric heat so I know their house gets cold but they were out of her size. I also got Lizzy a cute swim suit and nice white blouse. We went through the winter jackets and Lizzy & Joe both need new ones. I ordered one for Lizzy on the Lands End clearance but didn't see any for Joe. They keep having sales so I'm sure this year styles will go on sale soon and I can get one for Joe.

DH: I want to get him Wii fish but can't think of much else for him. He doesn't need any clothes and doesn't like "things". Maybe I'll get him to agree to no gifts.

I ordered my MIL a pot holder from the gift wrap place through school fund raiser and always give her school photos of the kids. I think I'll make her a calendar. I don't have many ideas for DH's other family. I think he'll have to handle things this year.

sounds good

I've order 3 video games for Hunter. Toyrus had a buy2 get one free deal last week. I've also bought a dorm fridge for my BD and DSIL for their camper. Other than that I haven't started. My Dad is buying a new truck so hopefully we can get him an accessory for that and have him done. He is so hard to buy for.

that is a good idea for your dad.

Chris put a layer of joint compound on the walls early this morning and it still hasn't dried:sad2: I was really hoping to have the first coat sanded and the second on before bed tonight. At this rate I won't be able to start painting until Tuesday.

I'm in the home renovation mood now. I think I'll paint my bedroom and finish the closet floor. I watched an episode of Dear Genevive yesterday and saw a bedroom that was painted a solid color with a frame in area at the head of the bed (like a large headboard) that was finished with wallpaper. I really liked the look of it and thought it would be pretty easy to reproduce in my room.

Another uber busy day. I brought the kids to school then headed to my interview. It went really well. Why is it that I always leave interviews feeling like I'll get the job, but still no offers :confused3 I bet they make everyone feel that way. After the interview I called my Dad and he met me at Home Depot. We picked up the materials that we need for our closet project and got those into my basement before the Nor Easter hits us tomorrow. I hadn't planned on starting the project until tomorrow since I had to pick the boys up early for Doctor's appointments. I dropped Hunter back off at the house as he didn't have an appt and Dad was here. At some point Dad cut the wallboard for the door opening. I had it all outlined anyway. Colby's appointment went well and we're not changing his meds since he is doing so well. The doctor was concerned that he had lost 10 lbs, but after a long discussion we realized that he may have been eating to self sooth or cope before his meds. We'll keep an eye on his weight, but I think he really has leveled out. Next was Nick's derm appt. He has had issues with his meds causing him a lot of tummy trouble. The doctor said she has a 14 year old son and if she were in our shoes she would put her son on accutane. After hearing all the pros and cons we have decided to give it a try. He will need to have monthly blood draws and doctor's checks. The med can have side effects, but is much more dangerous for women. If this works he should be acne free in 5 -6 months and should never have problems again. Obviously I hate the idea of meds, but he really does have severe acne and we'll be keeping a close eye on him. If we see any signs of side effects we'll stop immediately.

We came home to a dishwasher that wasn't draining. Still don't know why, but Chris messed with it enough to drain it for now and he'll tear it apart this weekend. I also disconnect a light switch that we don't need and got the wires out of the way. Hopefully I'll get a chance to start building tomorrow though I'll have to do it alone. I'm excited to get this project done.

Katrina used Accutane a couple of years ago (I believe she was 22). Her acne was really, really bad. She had to have monthly blood draws and pregnancy tests. Acne is very bad in Chuck's family and bad in mine. His sister has scars on her back from the acne she had as a teenager/young adult. The major side effect for Katrina during the treatments was extremely dry, painful skin. She has said many times that it was worth it. We are praying that there are no long term effects.

I just read the ipromise pamphlet that came with the accutane  I truly hope that it works for him as he has really bad acne on his face and back. I was on meds for acne throughout high school and Chris could have been. My boys are doomed in that area. I really hope this is the miracle that the doctor claims it is.
