I got to my appointment at 9am. I went for a straightening & cut. Stupid me did not make the appointment with the older lady that I went to last time. I made the appointment with the young girl who cuts my kids hair. Well after 4 and a half hours

You're welcome! That's one of the few places that I could think of that should please anyone. Starbucks...some don't drink coffee. Dairy Queen...some might be dieting, etc. At Panera, you can get danishes, bagels or even a meal!Tammi,
I got Panera giftcards...thanks I did not even think of that.
I got to my appointment at 9am. I went for a straightening & cut. Stupid me did not make the appointment with the older lady that I went to last time. I made the appointment with the young girl who cuts my kids hair. Well after 4 and a half hoursmy hair looked pretty much like it did when I went in.
I was very polite but refused to pay the full amount since my hair was not straight, just less kinky. The older lady who did it last time made it perfectly straight so I know it can be done. Yes I am kicking myself not booking with her in the first place. Well they got the manager who was very nice & tried to make it right. She said I could come back within a month & they would re-do it properly with no charge. She wanted to do it right there & then but I could not stay as the kids are home soon. So now the kids are home after tomorrow for summer & I have to find a day Dana can be home so I can spend another 4 hours having it redone. I am pretty annoyed but at least they wanted to fix it..when I call to have it done again I am going to ask for the older lady & stick with her.

Standards of Learning, tests in school. It's probably been awhile since you've had to deal with that.![]()
How exciting! I'm sure she'll adapt after a few weeks. DH, I'm not so sure.![]()

My kids still take the "old" standardized tests like we had as kids but they also take MCAS tests. It seems like the schools teach just for the MCAS test.I'm not sure they were called that when my kids were in school. I don't ever remember hearing that term. They were just called Standardization Tests when they were referred to by the teachers and administrators. Now, I don't feel so bad about not recognizing it.
The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) is designed to meet the requirements of the Education Reform Law of 1993. This law specifies that the testing program must
test all public school students in Massachusetts, including students with disabilities and limited English proficient students;
measure performance based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework learning standards;
report on the performance of individual students, schools, and districts.
As required by the Education Reform Law, students must pass the grade 10 tests in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics as one condition of eligibility for a high school diploma (in addition to fulfilling local requirements).
In addition, the MCAS program is used to hold schools and districts accountable, on a yearly basis, for the progress they have made toward the objective of the No Child Left Behind Law that all students be proficient in Reading and Mathematics by 2014.
I honestly don't think Lizzy will ever enjoy getting up early. She has never been a morning person. Even as an infant she wouldn't wake up screaming to eat. She often can't eat breakfast before school now. In middle school they have a 10 minute break at 9:11. I think she'll probably eat something then.I remember having to catch the bus early like that when I went to middle school. I adapted fine. I actually enjoyed getting up and having mom & dad to myself. However, Dad did not adapt well. I clearly remember him telling me the first morning "Let's be perfectly clear. Mornings are my quiet time so there will be no talking at the breakfast table." My dad was the best dad but don't interrupt his quiet time!![]()
I thought so too yesterday. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36933981&postcount=2910
Are you not reading and catching up? Or are you ignoring my posts?

I missed about 6 posts on the three boards I do read. for some reason they weren't there last night and then this morning I had obviously passed them by. sorry about that, Vicki!!
Well... the 11th is Theresa's birthday and mine is on the 10th, although it will be my last one in my 50s. It is a weekend so I am not teaching.
Sounds like a party in Baltimore to me!![]()
They didn't have them back then. We can thank Bush for these, as well as No Child Left Behind.I'm not sure they were called that when my kids were in school. I don't ever remember hearing that term. They didn't have them back then. We can thank Bush for these, as well as No Child Left Behind.I don't know of anyone that is happy with that Act. Anyone here?
Exactly. One of my favorite sayings with my kids is "Life isn't fair. Get used to it."
