DDA Chapter 25

We got chased out of the pool by thunder after a little more than an hour. By the time we got home there was a tornado warning for our area. As I was monitoring the weather on TV and through the windows the kids were getting very nervous. After the storm passed Nicholas thanked me for taking care of them.

that was quite a storm yesterday afternoon....we roasted marshmallows in it:rotfl: (only for a bit and only at the beginning)

Good Morning All!

I am having trouble adjusting to the time difference....but I know I will eventually

So you had a camp training squeezed in there! Wow!

Our girls have practiced setting up and taking down their own tent. They know how to build and start a fire. This trip is all about them and letting them pretty much do it on their own. They've planned their own menus and will be in charge of the cooking. My co-leader owns a boat and the campground has a boat launch so we will be fishing. The girls are very, very excited!! I love our group of girls this year. We still only have 6 but everyone is related. It's Em and Alyssa (my niece), Co-leader's daughter and stepdaughter, and one girl from last year along with her cousin. No more drama with the 2 girls who were causing all the trouble last year as they found another troop!! This group works together really well, even if they are a bit silly!! Hoping we can get one more year together with all of them. :goodvibes
It is really great that we got to do the tent training while the girls were in their activities. Now we can take the girls anywhere on our own. We did lodge training a while ago.

The group of 8 girls worked together really well. I think there might be 12 in the troop. A few couldn't go due to other commitments and a few didn't want to.

Your troop sounds perfect!!!! And very managable.

I think that today we're going to hit the library and the mall, but mostly work on cleaning up the dining room and playroom while I'm more available to help. I really want to get Terra rashguard type shirt and swim shorts for theme parks and park trips (most of the ones we go to have spray fountains during the summer). I was all set to get some at Target and finally went to do it yesterday and ours is out of everything except one set of shorts. I thought we'd try Children's Place, Penny's and another Target today. If we don't have any luck, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Have you tried Old Navy, Sears or Kmart? I think they have rash guard shirts. Lands End (at Sears) has really nice swim shorts with a built in swim panty-but they are pretty pricey. I've done well at the end of the season and on their clearance site on line.

I just looked to see what they had. They had these:

I have a free shipping code if you want to try those. You can return to a Sears retail store.

ETA: I didn't even look at Lands End "regular" swim wear section vs overstocks. They have swim shorts and rash guard shirts on sale for $11.70 each.

I have to see what fits Lizzy & Emma-especially Lizzy and see if she needs anything. Her aunt bought her a swim suit/rash guard for her birthday but I'm pretty sure they are bigger than anything she had last year so she might need more since they do swimming lessons every day and often go back for free swim in the afternoon.

ETA again....this ends tonight!

I don't think I mentioned that I'm a great aunt again. Gene's sister's daughter had a BIG boy Saturday. She has a daughter who turned 7 on Saturday as well. She said it was her birthday present ever. Oliver was 10 lbs 4 oz and 25". She went home on Sunday so I guess the delivery went well.

How are you settling in? Are you living with family?

I've been a productive girl today. I picked up the soda donation for the dance and dropped off donation requests for items for the class trip. I've gotten day old bagels and bread donations confirmed from NY Bagel and Panera. Hopefully the local movie theater will donate a big bag of popcorn for the dance and I ordered a cake for the Lacrosse pot luck. I might even have hamburger and hot dog buns donated "if" they have some available.
I finished the tie dye shirts and 3 look fantastic and the 4th is okay. I made lists of what I need to accomplish for each event. Now I'm just picking away at things :thumbsup2

I was scheduled to bartend tonight, but my boss needs me to close tomorrow night for him so he's doing tonight. I ended up with 4 nights this week plus one day at school so I really didn't want a 5th. By his taking tonight I will still have some time to spend with my family

Hi, all! Sorry I haven't been around, but we're still working on the living room/dining room. I don't know if there is a lot of work or if we are just extra slow. ;) Over the weekend we finished sanding and washing all the walls and ceilings and most of the trim. We primed all the walls and ceilings. We painted the ceiling, and I did the second coat this morning. Tomorrow morning we tape the ceiling and start painting the walls. I sometimes wonder if we'll ever be done. It would be so nice if that were all that had to get done, but most weekdays we don't get anything done in the evenings with kids' activities, etc. I think that we'll be all done painting by this weekend, and I can order the carpet and let someone else work for a while. Then it's on to the bathroom. That pretty much needs to go down to studs, so I am way outside my skill set on that. We'll probably have to call someone in and see how much it would be.

Jennifer, CONGRATULATIONS on the twins! I am sorry that it is a stressful beginning, but it will soon feel like a blessing, I'm sure. Miles was a surprise, and dh didn't take the news as well as he should have at first, but I honestly think that he is closest with him out of all the kids.

Theresa, I'm glad that you arrived safely. I hope that this is a terrific new beginning for you and Abi!

Deb, you are busy! I sure will be glad when the end of the year school stuff is over, and I'm not doing nearly as much as you. We have the 5th grade picnic on Friday and 5th grade moving up night on 6/21. It's enough for me. You are so efficient and get so much done. I should take lessons from you. :goodvibes

 Hello to everyone else! I need to run and pick my daughter up from school and my husband up from work. Laura stayed after to make up two gym classes that she missed for AP exams, and Matthew needed dh's car to get to work.

Yeah for getting things done! Sounds like some good progress. The kids and I worked in the playroom today and made some good progress as well. They worked on emptying bags of loose toys that they filled last week. I worked on empty everything out of the middle of the room that was part from when I was working on it before our Feb CA trip. Now things look MUCH better. I knew that if I could get that middle stuff done it would look 10x better. Now if we can just get it finished.

Nothing much going on here...just checking in.

We had good luck at the mall this morning too! Found a swim set at both Penny's and Children's Place. Terra liked parts of both so we got a piece from each store. Even better, they were both on sale and she really likes them!

Now we're just working on getting last minute clean-up done around the house, will work more on the playroom tomorrow and then pack. Wed morning we're out bright and early since we'll already be short on time in Branson.

Time to go make a Duck and the Beanstalk scene with Terra! (There were rubber ducks in various scenes that kids created on display at the library so Terra wants to make one as well.)

Well I am sore but I exercised again today. I also did better with my more water / less pepsi. I can do this! I'm off to bed. Have a great day tomorrow.

Today is my last sub day. I am totally not looking forward to it. There is a lockdown drill this afternoon and I'm with a difficult Special Needs kid :headache:

Well, my no baby day may be coming to an end. Just got a call from the older one's dad and he got called into work. I gave them a head's up that we have a couple of nasty colds running around here so maybe I'll still get a reprieve. He was going to call the mom and see if she wanted to have her mom watch instead. That little extra money is helpful, but she's a handful and I was kind of looking forward to my easy week. Guess we'll see how it pans out.

Good morning, DDA! :sunny:

It is a gloriously beautiful morning here in Virginia!
