Congrats to Katie Glynis!

I say let her have her red and black room, I've always let my girls choose what they wanted in their rooms, we've had splattered walls, Panda's on hills with a blue sky and clouds above, dark teal walls, the one that was really far out had gecko green walls with black trim accented with zebra prints, we put a border in the middle of the walls, painted it black and she decoupaged pictures of her friends and family in it, it made for a great conversation piece when her friends would come over. Last but not least we had teal walls with a silver wash, she called it her mermaid look. It was "their" space and paint is an easy thing to cover up.

With all that being said, I'm not as young or healthy as I used to be, so the pink room will be pink for a long time. . . .

A family I babysit for has a room with PINK carpet. Bright pink, lipstick colored carpet. It was in there when they bought the house. They don't really use that room - it is kind of the room where they store things while they decide where to put them. But it is some BRIGHT carpet.

Debbie, I do think once the furniture and everything is in the room that it won't look so pink.

I would have no problem with the red/black walls if it were only Mary's room. However, she shares with Leslie, and there's no way Leslie will be ok with red/black. She wants pink/purple, which Mary is not too fond of. We're trying to find a nice in between that both of them can live with. Wish us luck!

Katie wants her room either purple or aqua. We'll see what she ends up with.

Good Morning,

I hope everyone is staying warm, DH's crew hasn't been able to work this week, their main water line is frozen, he still has to go for "meetings" each day, I sure could use his help around here right now.

I've got the Very Pink room painted, I just have to touch up the white stripes, put up the crown molding and touch up all the trim. The carpet will be installed either tomorrow or Friday and then we can load in the furniture and accessories.

I've been having a rough time with this one, even though I'm using low odor paint it is still bothering me, I won't tell DH though or he'll have a fit and insist that I don't start the other room.

I'm hoping that the white furniture and accessories will tone down the pink some, it is verrrryyy pink, DH said he could see the pink glow from the street when he came home last night.

I had that happen with my room in the first house my mom owned.....it was supposed to be a light pink...it was more like dayglo....my mom never did paint over it.

As much as I would like Aubrey to be a girlie girl, I don't think that is going to be the case, she was much more intersted in her brother's toys Christmas than hers.

My sister did all black bedding when she took over my room....the funny thing about the pink? Neither one of us really like the color pink.

Cassidy's walls are purple (2 tones, one dark and one light) and Abi's are 2 different greens....which looks like she is in an aquarium but they are so hard on bedding that neither has bedding that matches any more.

I am going to try very hard today to get back into the swing of looking for a job. 2010 better be my year or I will have to ask for another do over.

So my plans for today were shot last night. By a friggin, frackin flippin deer. I hit it on the way home. I have a busted grill, busted radiator and a broken headlight. Their goes some of my Disney money for the deductible. we apparently had no rental car on our insurance. So I cant go get my fabric to make the blankets.

The tow truck is on the way to take it to the body shop that our insurance uses. So I cleaned out all the valuables out of the van.

Great job Deb, loved the pictures, it looked like everyone had a great time.

We may end up with overlapping trips this summer, our 25th anniversary is July 27th and we are considering spending it at Disney.

We'll have to get together. Our Anniversary is the 25th. We'll be on the cruise for it

Miles just uttered the two words that strike fear into the hearts of millions (or at least for Elizabeth, Tammi, and me)...SCIENCE FAIR! I don't know why I was hoping that we'd escape it this year, but no such luck. I'm all out of ideas. Anyone have anything interesting and (most importantly) easy?

Jennifer, I am sorry about your car, and I'm glad that you are ok. Deer can be a disaster!

Debbie, I'm sure that the room will look great once you get everything back into it. I really need to follow everyone's lead and get a bunch of things done around here. (Sound a bit like a broken record, don't I?)

Deb, great blankets! You really took the bull by the horns and got that project wrapped up beautifully.

No escape from the dreaded Science Fair here either.

Sophie wants to work on transpiration & cohesion. Easy, she's putting 4 carnations in colored water & watch as the petals change color..cool.

Daniel however wants to create the atmosphere for every planet & discuss why each atmosphere cannot support life.

Anne Marie, aren't some atmospheres toxic? Tell him that violates the rules. The older the kids get the tighter the rules become as far as what constitutes an "experiment" vs. making a model or something. But they also crack down on toxic chemicals, open flame, etc. Yes, our past experiments HAVE included toxic chemicals (well, bleach) and open flame. But we did that in the house, not AT the science fair.

Beth, hmm. Let me think. In 2nd grade he made a model of a volcano, because that was an OK thing to do back then. 3rd grade I can't remember what we did. 4th grade we watched 2 hours of Sat. AM TV and wrote down every edible product they advertised, then we added up how many grams of sugar one would consume eating one serving of each food shown. 5th grade we bought socks made of different fibers and put them on a Gatorade bottle. We filled the bottle with hot water and charted how the temp of the water dropped to see which sock was the best insulator. 6th grade we washed flame resistant fabric 10, 20 and 30 times then set it on fire. 7th grade we attempted to test the saturation points of different sweeteners but that was a disaster. He is lucky he didn't fail. This year we corroded pipe sections in water, salt water, Windex and bleach.

When I was in middle school we did one similar to DS's fabric burning one - we tested flame resistant fabric VS. regular 100% cotton, polyester, etc. to see the difference in ignition and burn times and compare how they burned (huge flame, small flame, melting, etc.). That was really fun. We tested them with open flame (a cigarette lighter) and against an electric stove burner.

I HATE science fair. No matter how creative your project is, if it can be done, it has ALREADY been done by someone else. One I saw at the regional competition when I was in school was a kid who distilled the CAFFEINE out of products to compare how much was in each thing. He had a bunch of petri dishes with stuff in them. How he knew THAT was caffeine I have NO CLUE. I wanted DS to do something with ground water contamination, or contaminants that leak into bottled water from the plastic, but my friend who works at the FDA said that sort of thing isn't something "normal" people can accurately determine.

I can't believe how much better I feel after 24 hours on the antibiotic. I'm still exhausted but I can breathe again.

I made a photobook for Emma to use as an autograph using photos from past trips. I was afraid Kodak would put my order on hold because it has photopass pictures in it but they be used to seeing those by now because I got noticed it shipped. They have given me a hard time in the past. I can't wait to see her book! Now I just want to make her a few special outfits. At the very least a skirt to wear for her birthday dinner at the California Grill.

Elizabeth, the sock one sounds interesting, and he is in 5th grade. They have to do an "experiment" not a "demonstration." I like science a lot. I just hate science fairs. The rules are pretty loose as to how the experiment needs to be done (number of trials, exact controls, etc) at our elementary school, since they no longer try to qualify kids to higher competitions. They also no longer choose winners, because they don't want losers (don't get me started on that), and the teachers seem to grade based more on effort shown than actual work. The definitions of "experiment" and "demonstration" are a little blurry to me. I guess if you can show some sort of experimental process (creating a hypothesis, etc), it's an experiment. It doesn't matter if it has already been done thousands of times before. There are always a bunch of product comparison ones...which candle burns the longest, which popcorn leaves the fewest unpopped kernels, which detergent cleans better. Those usually don't follow any sort of scientific method. I can't even remember what Matthew and Laura did at the elementary level.
