DDA Chapter 24

Good morning, all! Well, the sick germs just won't leave poor Timothy. He's still coughing, gunky, etc. He now has a white coating on his tongue, and won't eat. I'm thinking that whatever this started out to be, it's turned into thrush. I'm waiting for the doctor's office to call so that I can get him an appointment. He's just so lethargic, and sad.

Other than that, nothing major is going on here. Alan is going out of town on a news story today and tomorrow, so I'm trying to decide whether or not to go to my Zumba class tonight. I guess it will depend on what the doctor says.

On an up note: I took an exam for my coding class last night and ended up with a 92%!!! It's getting tougher and tougher, but there is a satisfaction in making it all make sense!

Have a great day, everyone!

I wonder if they do that now, at Disneyland. We went to 4 shows before Jacob got picked. It was worth it, in the end, but it took up a lot of valuable park time. I'm hoping that he won't want to do it again, when we go next time.
My kids have each done it twice, then after that the rule became "let some other little boy or girl, who hasn't had the opportunity, have some Disney magic". They've been good with that. THEY now remind ME, when we are leaving the park with unused FPs to "pass on the magic".

Glynis - great job on your exam! How do you like Zumba? I'm really considering joining a gym now that I have much more free time, and there are a couple around here that offer Zumba. I'd like to loose about 10 pounds before our trip, but I like to eat too much. Poor Timothy. I do hope he starts getting better soon.

I hadn't yet seen the Staples commercial so I looked it up on youtube. Yes, definitely annoying. The one that I can't stand is where the guy blasts off with a rocket pack attached to his back. I *think* it's for Quaker Oats.

Glynis,

Congrats on 92%!:thumbsup2
Hope Timothy feels better soon.

What exactly is Zumba? There's a local gym that offers it but I don't know what it is...I need to start a program but regular exercise is so boring that I do not stick with it..something new & fun might work for me.

Ok all you Wii owners......who has Just Dance? My kids and I love it!!!!

I am meeting a friend for lunch. Looking forward to that as I miss my old friends from NY...thankfully the people here are pretty friendly.:thumbsup2

I applied for some jobs yesterday...so far I am "overqualified" for 3 of them. Hoping for something part time so I can be home for the kids before/after school. After my lunch I am going to go networking around town to see what I can find.

I will try again later, keep getting a fatal error message when trying to open the last page of thread. Can only open the first page. :confused3

I love Zumba! It's an amazing workout!!! Our teacher told us that one hour of Zumba burns somewhere in the vicinity of 700 calories! It is so fun, you really don't feel like you are working out! I would totally recommend it!

Zumba is aerobic dancing to Brazilian/Latin music. It really is more dancing than anything. It makes things so fun!!! Like I told Tammi, it's a great workout. I came out of class last week just dripping with sweat, my heart rate was up, but I was HAPPY! That never happens when I take an aerobics class. I'd suggest trying one! The teacher that I have offers a free class so you can try it. If you like it, you buy a punch card: 5 classes for 15 dollars or 10 classes for 28 dollars. You don't have to go every week, because she knows how life gets, but every time you go, she punches the card.

I love the class I'm in. It's mostly overweight, middle aged ladies, none of whom have danced much before! Great fun!

I guess the easiest way to describe it is aerobics with a Latin flare.

Looks like fun!

Here is the public service announcement for the day, as provided by Princess:
"The nurse (at school) is only for if you want your mommy or if you are sick. NOT for boo-boos." So apparently if you sustain an INJURY you are not to bother the nurse with it? :confused3

Sorry to hear poor Timothy is still under the weather, Aubrey had a virus that caused white bumps in her throat, I don't remember what the name was but she was sick for over a week.

I spent from 10 AM - 3 PM handing out donation requests business to business. I got a few things today, a few things promised, many that would be forwarded to the appropriate person and several no's. I'm glad to have the one area completed. I still have a couple of areas to hit, but they have far less businesses. The worst part was going in and out of restaurants right at lunch time and not being able to eat. I knew that if I did it would throw me off track for the week, man it was hard.

Does anyone else find that Staples (where the guy is yelling "Wow that's a low price!") commercial annoying? I mute it when I see it coming on.

Who thinks up these things..makes me want to go to Office Depot instead!

OMG very annoying!!!!!!!!!!

Not anymore. They just recently stopped doing the random picking and there is now a queue for this. I guess they had too many mom's complaining that their child didn't get picked. If the search was working I could find a link with all the details.

Stephanie,

From Allears...

The process for selecting young "Padawans" for training at the Jedi Training Academy in Disney's Hollywood Studios has changed. There is now a standby line in which children can wait to be selected for the session -- they are now taken on a first-come/first-served basis, instead of randomly chosen from the audience.

There was a thread on "Theme Parks" the other day about this. If you want to be chosen you essentially go IMMEDIATELY to the Jedi line at rope drop. They will hand out some sort of card to the first 15 or so kids (ages 4-12 only). If you are not in the first group you may continue to stand there until they hand out cards for the second show. One lady said she stood in line for two hours to get spots for her kids. :scared: She also said it was worth it, but YMMV.

April 2008 Daniel was chosen in the first Jedi Training show. He was so excited. Sophie decided that summer she wanted to try, so we waited through 3 shows before she was chosen. It must have been 100 degrees & we were melting but she finally got up there & kicked some Darth Vadar butt.:rotfl:

I think its better to stand in line rather than just being chosen. Thankfully they were happy they got a chance & we do not have to do it again.

Fingers crossed!

Ditto! And I'm glad the ice is gone. I hope you get Gary to go to the doc. He could be doing more damage walking around on it.

We did the Kim Possible on the last trip and I loved it! Probably more so than the kids, although they did get a kick out of a couple of the animated things.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the help. I'm sick as a dog. This is the first time I turned on the computer and I'm getting ready to turn it back off.

Oh man, I hate that commerical! It's just so loud and annoying.

I hope the doctor was about to get Timothy in! Yeah on your test! I knew you could do it.

Yeah for a lunch date! You're doing better than I would. Lunch dates already. (Yeah, I know it's been a while since you moved, that's just how bad at it I am.)

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the help. I'm sick as a dog. This is the first time I turned on the computer and I'm getting ready to turn it back off.

So, I have a question for you as parents (or imagining yourself as one)....

If a calendar of, say, Girl Scout meetings is given out at the beginning of the year with all dates on it - is it the leader's responsibility to email you a day or two ahead of time to remind you of those meetings?

Obviously, it would be nice for them to do and we do try. This time my co-leader reminded of the meeting in the post-meeting email last time (two weeks ago). She did not send a reminder a day or two before. We had 5 out of 13 parents (that I know of) forget about the meeting today. Luckily, the school followed up with most of them and only one girl missed, maybe, because of that. I also got 3 emails from parents saying we needed to remind them. Most we just simple requests for a reminder...no problem. The one that got to me was the one that said, "so we can put it in our calendars/blackberries" as it makes things easier for the "working moms and those on the road alot". What I'm wondering is why the calendar I handed out couldn't have been put in the blackberries or calendars? I know I let it get to me a little more than it should have, but at the same time think maybe some of these parents need to be a little more responsible for the calendar themselves. Our meetings are ALWAYS on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday. :confused3 Okay, sorry, vent over. :flower3: :hippie:

Your calendar that you send out is all that is needed! It is their responsibility to remember, not yours to remind them. That is the whole reason for putting together a calendar at the beginning of the year.
