DDA Chapter 23

I used to be the fundraising queen. Actually, I guess I still am, since I am taking on a homemade cookbook for MOPS and our church this year!

Let's see...

People can pay to participate in:
a 5K run/walk
a cornhole tournament
wacky olympics

Themed baskets are always successful and net big profits since most items are donated/solicited. (e.g. restaurant gift cards, girls just want to have fun, boys will be boys, reading explosion, etc.) This could be a silent auction or you could sell raffle tickets.

Getting administrators and teachers involved is always fun. We:
duct-taped people to the wall during pep assemblies
had pie eating contests
turned people into human sundaes

We also encouraged educators to offer incentives. (e.g. If the student body raises $xxxx.xx then Principal Joe will shave his head or Teacher Jane will dress up in a chicken costume for the day.)

Penny wars usually go over well

Chanon mentioned a "pound auction" a while back.

I hope everyone starts feeling better soon...sickness and pain seems to have hit the DDA hard in recent days.

Flamingo flocking- get plastic flamingos, people pay to place them in people's yards you can ask for a donation to have them removed, you can also sell flocking insurance people pay a set amount so there house will not be flocked with flamingos. Depending on the number of flamingos placed in a yard you charge a different fee.

Rachel's church choir did this last spring and it worked out really well. They made a decent amount of money and everyone had a blast. The kids thought it was great sneaking over after dark to plant to "flock". The majority of church members thought it was fun being "flocked" and there were some disappointed the flock never made it to them. The person who was last flocked chose the next house for a flocking.

Good Morning All!

Yesterday we made the decision to send Meg (the band kitty) to another house. She has Pearl so stressed that she is peeing in corners, not wanting to come inside, and probably the funniest: laying in the litter box so Meg can't get in. It's been almost 2 months, so we've given it a go. After yesterday morning I couldn't stand it anymore and stuck Meg back in Cassidy's room and closed the door. I think Pearl knew right away and she is already almost back to normal.

I'm not quite sure how it happened, but the majority of today is mine to control. I had my CT scan this morning (hate that contrast medicine!) so hopefully we'll get results on Friday. We're headed to the library and the grocery store in a little bit. Otherwise, it's a quiet day...though I do have to do my comp shopping tonight and/or tomorrow morning.

Even better, I was able to get Terra into a couple of homeschool classes at Silver Dollar City for next weekend so we're getting a little mini-vacation! Their first annual homeschool weekend coincides with Mom and Dad's annual week in Branson with family friends so we'll go with them for part of the week for the cost of our gas and a little food. Woohoo!

Anyone need any overpriced popcorn? Joe is selling popcorn for Boyscouts. It is good stuff but so expensive! The cheapest item is a $10 for 8 oz. of caramel corn. The flyer says 70% goes to scouting.

My throat is sore. I can't believe sitting out in the cold wind for an hour last night made me sick that quickly, but who knows. Of course I would get sick the day before the baby is born. I guess we'll see what happens as the day progresses.

Sorry Bernadette I don't like pre popped popcorn, barley eat microwave popcorn, I like popping it myself (hot air).

My only experience with Scout popcorn was the microwave kind. A family I used to babysit for had some, and it nearly burst into flames. It turned into this black, smoking mass. And before anybody blames it on my lack of prowess in the kitchen, when the parents came in they said the same thing had happened to them!

I can't tell if I am getting sick or not.

Colby is selling it too. Thankfully the cub scout popcorn is the best popcorn out there in the opinion of most of our family. We will be able to sell a few boxes of it. I'll even buy some for Christmas gifts.

Our 6th grades had a penny war last year. It was fun and raised almost 800 dollars in pennies. They way they worked it was all the 6th grade classes had desks outside their doors with jars on them. All the other grades were invited to participate by putting pennies in the jar of the class they wanted to see serving lunch at the end of the contest. At the end of the day, the money was taken to the office for counting and safe-keeping. At the end of the "war" the money was donated to the charity our school has been sponsoring for several years (a sister school in Africa). It was a really cool thing! Katie's class "lost" the war and had to serve lunch to the school. It was a fun fund raiser, and the 800 dollars bought quite a lot of school supplies and food for the sister school, especially since a local business matched the amount!

They used to have regular popping corn, but it was very, very expensive, and in my opinion no better than Wegmans. This is the first year that we aren't involved in Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts. Matthew aged out, and Miles just wasn't interested in continuing. I am so glad that I don't have to buy any of that popcorn. Sorry, Bernadette!

about the popcorn. We don't like microwave popcorn, so we never tried it. My parents bought some and didn't like it. I don't know why, though. Maybe it also burst into flames.

I am excited Olivia will have her first girl scout troop meeting in 2 weeks. A new friend is supposed to email me the info about the dance class her 6yr old DD goes to that is for homeschoolers.

I gave blood today. It took forever! Most of the time was spent waiting. I had a 1:15 pm appointment, and I arrived at 1:05 pm. I didn't leave until 2:55 pm! I don't mind giving blood, but they just seem so disorganized every time, and I wasn't planning on spending so much time there. I guess the errands will have to wait for another day.
