Terry, Elin, Tammi and anyone else who likes to vacation at the beach, what draws you there? When Dawn and I were very young my family always spent a week at the beach, but now that I am adult there is no desire to go.

I must say that just after John and I were married, Dawn a cousin and I went go to NJ a few times, but not for the beach. Where we stayed there were rides, games and plenty of food up and down the boardwalk.

For me, it's the total lack of communication with the real world. When we go to the beach we are camping. So, there are no tv's, no phones, and we really get to experience something new.

I also like to set up a beach chair under my umbrella with a good book, drink and something to nibble on. It's very relaxing. I wouldn't want to do it all the time, but for a few days a year, it's very nice!

Oh Glynis I am sorry that Jacob and Leslie have gotten sick.
How is Timothy?

Well I am off, I will talk with ya tomorrow if there is anyone to talk to.

The beach that I like to go to is not commercialized at all. It is mostly just condos and houses. There are a few putt-putt places and lots of restaurants, but no rides/games/shows etc. I like being at the beach just to relax and slow down from life, soak up the salt and sun. The kids can play in the sand, waves and pool. I can drink, read and watch them. In the mornings it is so peaceful and serene, watching the sunrise slowly over the ocean. In the evening the sun sets so beautifully with bright orange and purple. I like to walk along the shore in the evening, watching all the crabs scurry about, with the waves lapping at my feet. It's a vacation that isn't about doing anything but chilling.

Well, things pretty much stink around here! I thought we were in the clear, since Jacob and Leslie hadn't shown any symptoms. However, we were all watching "Narnia" this afternoon, playing Disney UNO, and Jacob started complaining of a headache. I took his temp, and sure enough, a fever. Then he started having chills. Before we called the doctor, I took Leslie's temp., and she has a small one, as well. She says she feels fine, but since it's the weekend, I asked the doctor to go ahead and prescribe the Tamiflu for both of them. He did, and Alan is heading out to pick it up soon.

At least the whole family has now had it, and now is immune to it. Hopefully that will mean something in the Fall when it's supposed to come back badder than ever. It's small comfort now. Especially to kids who have been cooped up in the house since Monday. Looks like we get to extend the quarantine until Thursday at the earliest. Wish us luck that we don't kill each other!
I'm so sorry, Glynis. I know you must be going stir crazy. Just be glad that you caught it early!

The food is packed. The clothes are laid out. The last load of laundry (towels) is in the dryer. I still have to go out and mow. I'm procrastinating, hoping the temp drops as the sun sets. It was HOT here today.

Timothy is fine, so far. Which is really good, since they won't prescribe Tamiflu for anyone under 1 year of age. The doctor is hoping that my nursing is protecting him, by giving him the antibodies I'm creating, plus the tamiflu that is in my system. We'll just have to see how it goes.

Stir crazy is a very good way to put it! I don't know what we're going to do to alleviate the boredom. The kids are all so tired of being together. I'm trying to come up with something for them to do, but so far, they are shooting down all my ideas.

It's hard to picture anywhere that's sunny and warm right now. We've had days of rain, here! Right now, it's coming down so hard, I'm expecting an ark to pull up any moment!

Its been raining like crazy here too! The news said we have had rain the last 19 days! i want it to feel like summer!

Oh, Glynis, just when you were hoping you were in the clear! :sad2: I am sorry.

Tammi - Sounds like you are ready to go!!

I have done nothing today. Well, DH and I went grocery shopping so we won't have to do that tomorrow. Other than that, nothing.

My eye is gross. If I put my index finger at the corner of my eye, my face is swollen down to the 2nd joint of my finger. So almost 2 inches? I HATE styes. For the life of me I can not imagine why there is nothing to treat them with other than a frickin' COMPRESS, which serves no purpose other than to turn the swollen part of my face all pruney!!!:headache::mad:

Yep, we are leaving tomorrow evening after the kids get back from their dad's. I'm not at all ready. I do have some lists made, and that's about it. I got 3/4 of the back yard mowed before the storms arrived. I need to get that and the front finished before I leave or I will come back to a jungle.

I'm getting showered and then heading off to the grocery and Target.

I hope you all have a great time, Tammi! We are not ready to come home. The girls and I just came up from the beach because it was too dark to stay out there tonight. It was stinking hot and humid here today (it is still 90 at 9 p.m. and it feels like 98  ) so we didn't spend a lot of time out there earlier. We are about to play a rousing game of Scattergories! Talk to you all later. :goodvibes

Heidi - if you look at my Pictures of the Day you will see the draw for me. It is the most relaxing place on earth for me. Bob and the girls say it is the only location where I "allow" myself to do absolutely nothing!!

I am so sorry to hear this, Glynis. I hope the rest of your quarantine passes quickly now that the worry is gone.

Heidi,

As you can see from Glynis's and Tammi's posts, it is going to just relax.

I was born and raised in St. Pete, Florida. When we could go to the beach, we were always there. I have also lived near Virginia Beach, three years in San Diego then down to Key West for a year and finally three years in Hawaii. We always were at the beach when we could get away. There is nothing like hearing the surf and watching the waves come ashore and to hear the lapping of the water. The smell of the salt air just relaxes you and even rejuvinates one.

Once we had kids, we really did not have time to go to the shore except for maybe three times down to Ocean City, Md. The beaches on the eastern shore are not like the gulf or pacific beaches, beautiful white sand, squeaky clean. But the sound of the water is the same. The gulf beaches are so much fun if you want to hunt for shells. I can remember collecting some beautiful shells. I do miss that. I remember showing Stephanie how to hunt for shells but I told her that I need to get her down to St Pete Beach on Treasure Island, Fla. That is the best place to look for shells.

Stephanie and I started going to Ocean City, NJ and then to Cape May, NJ but it was just to get away, hear the sound of the waves and smell the salt air. It is so very relaxing. We did manage to get a lot of shopping done for Christmas cause we always went the last week in October. We probably did that for about 8 years. I am not one for rides but walking along the boardwalk is such fun. Smelling the food, especially the french fries,,,YUM!!!

I have to say that the past two years going to the OBX is very different. We are not close to the beach, so I miss hearing the ocean sounds. But I can still relax, spend time in the pool and have my alone time.
That is what I really like---- the quiet time.

I am so sold on cruises now because you can be out on deck and hear the waves crashing as you go over the water and that is just the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. Stephanie spent a lot of time on our veranda listening to that sound. I plan to do that a lot more this time.

Glynis, I am so very sorry you and your family are having to go thru this.

Maybe the kids could do a talent show? Make up a treasure hunt???

I can remember when my Mom had Scarlet Fever, we were quaranteened (sp?) and it was the worst.

I'm done for today. I finished the lawn and then showered. Now I'm having a glass of wine and some hummus and crackers. My back is killing me.
