Did you have the shrimp chilled, Elin?

::yes:: chilled, and straight out of their plastic container! :rotfl2: They were DEElish! And, well worth the $19.99 per pound price tag we thought. Since Bob doesn't eat cold shrimp we had 10 shrimp (must have been 20-count) to split between us for $10. I thought for a special treat that was a good deal.

ETA: I just added up what we spent for dinner last night: $11 for the sausages, $10 for the shrimp, $2 for the pasta, $.50 for the tomato, $10 for the wine = $33.50. If we had gone out to dinner and had the same meal, the wine alone would have cost that! YAY!

Howdy everyone! I'm back from my trip and easing back into a routine.

I'm not going back to catch up, so if I need to know anything, please, someone PM me, ok?

I did get that Tia got a new computer (hooray), Becky got a new car (hooray), but that it had to go to the garage already (boo), but it was a relatively easy fix (hooray).

We had rain the entire time we were at Dad's house. Just for a few minutes every day, but it was enough to keep things cool! Not bad! We saw 6 fabulous plays, and thoroughly enjoyed it all! Jacob got to experience his first Shakespeare play (The Comedy of Errors), and he really enjoyed it! The last night we were there, a bronze plaque, dedicated to my mom's contribution to the Festival, was presented before the audience. The grandchildren got to unveil it, and it was lovely! It is now hanging permanently on the side of the theater so everyone can see it. It was a beautiful ceremony, and we were all really touched!

Now, I'm back and trying my hardest to get back in the swing of things. It's a lot harder, now that our temperatures are in the hundred's! I just want to stay inside and not do anything! However, I need to get out and about today! It's Katie's 12th birthday, and I have to get a cake, and all the stuff for her birthday dinner tonight. She wants Cornish pasties, so I have to figure out how I'm going to do that! Yikes! Wish me luck with that one!

Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning, DDA!

Hopefully a slightly less hectic day today. Yesterday was much better after Dad installed a new-to-us washer. No more lugging loads of laundry to Kristi's. Woohoo! It also gave me a chance to finish setting up my computer. I need to get my music transferred from Phil's computer down here and plug in my new external drive and we are good to go. Of course, that just starts another list of things to be done - burning DVD backups of pictures, starting the picture organization process, etc, but the good part is that now it can be done. :goodvibes:

This morning free because of Bible School is coming in very handy. ;)

Welcome home, Glynis! I'm glad you had such a wonderful trip. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. Happy birthday, Katie!!!! Good luck with the pasties.

Becky- Congrats on the new car!

Janet- I hope you can get the pics recovered!

Tia- :banana:for a new computer.

Debbie- Can't wait to see your Mickey bowl!!

Elin- Are there any leftovers? ;)

Tammi- Glad you all enjoyed your lunch date with Elin!

Bernadette- Good luck on the new car decisions! I hope the weather improves.

I have a doctor's appointment today. Hopefully, it will be quick and painless. Then it's off to the beach (alone, well sans girls & Eric) for the weekend.

Have a great weekend!!!!

Glynis, sorry the weather was soggy for your trip! We have rain today.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KATIE! :yay:

So DS and I were talking this morning and we have decided we are going to just bring a handful of pins and not really do much trading this year.

I had already been thinking along those lines because 1) the counterfeits are SOOO out of hand and 2) the gallon Ziplocs full of pins were a huge pain in the tushy to take through DFW airport security last year. Since I already have to deal with the laptop I just don't want to mess with 3 gallon bags of pins. There is also the issue of not having the souvenir duffle when we come home this year. I usually pack the keeper pins on sheets of bubble wrap in "shirt" gift boxes and put the boxes in the duffle with whatever else we bought. It is my sincere intention to not need the duffle this year because our checked bag fees are going to be bad enough without carrying on the duffle. I told DS I will probably bring 30 pins and one lanyard. I will plan to pin trade at MK on my birthday, and maybe trade with King Pin at AKL but that's about it. Maybe we will bring the big bags of pins next year, or maybe we will just bring 30-40 at a time until we have traded through all of them and then call it quits on trading. I will continue to buy a few special pins each trip.

Welcome back. It's sound like you have a fun time. What a nice way to honor your mom. Happy birthday to Katie! BTW, what in the world are Cornish pasties??? I'm envisioning something x-rated! :scared1:;):rotfl:

Cornish pasties are hand held meat pies. They originated in Cornwall, England among the miners. They needed a way to eat a hot lunch without having to come out of the mine. Their wives created these "pies" out of heavy, thick crust filled with meat and vegetables. Sometimes, they would even put meat filling in one end and fruit filling on the other so there was a complete meal.

Katie tried them in London last year and has been hooked! So, I'm going to attempt them for her birthday. I'm not worried about the filling, it's the crust that has me worried. Although, now that I think about it, my pie crusts always end up thick and heavy, so maybe it will be ok!

They used to sell them in Canada at WDW. I think it was in Le Cellier, or maybe at a kiosk outside near the totem pole... I can't remember! But they are yummy and I know that you will get the pastry right, Glynis. :goodvibes

Deb - your birthday graphic for Katie is adorable!

Glynis - I am glad you all had a good time. We missed you, so WELCOME HOME!

Becky congratulations on the car :cool1:

Tammi & Elin sounds like you had a good time last night!

Debbie I bet your bowl is adorable, can't wait to see it!

Sounds like a great trip! You can send some of those degrees here. Still in the 60's here but the sun is out!

:cool1:Happy Birthday Katie!!!:cool1:

Yeah for the new washer and Bible School!!!

Good luck with the photo/music organization! I bought a slide scanner a few weeks ago so I could make my MIL a photo book for her 90th birthday in September but I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. My photos are getting a bit out of hand now too. We are using 4 different cameras. My DH prefers the old (broken) big Sony, I let Joe/Lizzy use the old little Sony (with the spot on the sensor), I use the Nikon dSLR but sometimes the little new Sony. I've got to get control over uploading all of those and then making backups so we are ready for our trip to the Cape on the 20th.

Bernadette- Good luck on the new car decisions! I hope the weather improves.

I have a doctor's appointment today. Hopefully, it will be quick and painless. Then it's off to the beach (alone, well sans girls & Eric) for the weekend.

Have a great weekend!!!!
Thanks! Our old mini van gets a combined MPG of 19 and the program is for cars with 18 or less. I called a dealer and they said there is talk that the government might increase the limit to 19. I looked up my old 1993 V8 Grand Marqui just for kicks and it gets 19 too. I'll have to keep an eye on the site to see if they up it. The program starts 7/24.

:wizard:Hope the doctor went quickly!

Have a great weekend!!!!!

I will continue to buy a few special pins each trip.

I gave Joe 15 pins to trade in May. I have 15 pins for Lizzy & Emma too but I think we should leave all the pins home and let Lizzy & Emma trade on solo trips! And DH isn't real hot on pin trading and we aren't planning on being in the parks that much.....(not that they couldn't trade at the resort....).

I am less than 3 weeks out on my trip.:scared1: And I won't be home for 3 days before then and have to pack/unpack do laundry...for quick trip. I need to get moving! I did buy Joe 2 more shorts at Target that fit him well. I am hoping to get to the outlets to buy Lizzy a couple at the Columbia outlet. I wonder if they even have them any more. I wanted to get her a light wieght rain jacket too. The only one she has is from her 3 in 1 jacket with the removable liner and that is rather heavy.

Terry, Tammi, Elin or anyone???

Any suggestions on where to stay in the Outer Banks? Looking to do a quick weekend trip...thanks
