DDA Chapter 18

Since we have baseboards and thermostats in every room, we keep the temps lower in the rooms that we do not use often. In the bedroom, we have an electric blanket and use that a lot. Me, I turn it on and then turn it off as soon as I get into bed cause of my heat flashes!!!! :lmao: Hal and I wear sweatshirts a lot. We now have a tankless water heater. That has cut down our electric bill a lot. If I take lunch to work, it is usually leftovers. Where Hal works, one of the classes is Culinary Arts and he gets meats there for considerably less.

When Stephanie and I go out for lunch, we go to subway and take advantage of their $5 footlong and share. We look for coupons for other places that we go to lunch.

After the baby is born we are shutting off our land line, I don't want to cut it off quite yet.

We've also decided to drop the insurance on our oldest vehicle down to just what it absolutely necessary.

We both "brown bag it" for lunch

We stock up on the basics when they are on sale

I try to run my errands on the way home, or if it's my day off I plot my path before leaving so that I don't backtrack.

We tried saving cans but after a truckload netted $7.49 we now put them in our recycle bin, someone goes through the neighborhood and picks them out but I'm fine with that, at least they are being recycled.

DH and I will have to sit down and figure out some more things, and I'll need to show a little restraint when it comes to shopping for the grandchildren.

Thank you all for your support, things may not be as bad as I thought, there will still be cuts but hopefully not quite as bad. I can't go into details because there are people who will lose their jobs that don't know yet, I hate knowing and not being able to say anything but it goes along with my position.

we do the stuff in bold as well

my land line is very basic
I need to call about our insurances and see if we can find something cheaper. I also need to look at using the same company for auto and home insurance.

We have Directv and have none of the premium movie chanels

I also try to combine my errands.

I color my own hair

I have always been big on coupons. I am also very brand loyal for some products, though, so I won't switch brands just because I have a coupon. I do look for coupons to use on my regular brands.

DH takes snacks and drinks with him to work, and my lunch is provided by my bosses so we can't cut costs there.

I don't do a lot of running around - I can go two weeks on a single tank of gas.

Debbie - I hope things are not as bad as you fear!

Speaking of insurance, my bosses want me to have an umbrella policy and they will pay the premiums. Fine, easy, right? Not with my IDIOT insurance people! I told DH we are yanking all 7 of our policies and going to another agent. I need to look into how to do that, because I have HAD IT. Momboss even called and talked to the girl at my insurance office and was very frustrated by the experience. :sad2:

This is definitely somewhere we have to cut back on, although paying $3.00 for a $25 gift certificate at restaurant.com was a great deal.
i have looked at that site but we would not eat at any of the places offered

I still have a temp.. I went to the Dr and he gave me cough medicine. Told me to stay home tomorrow since i am still contageous.

He asked me if i was having lots of sinus problems and i said yes. He suggested I try a Neti pot. I bought one and will try it tonight. If it helps clear up the sinusus, i will keep it up. Anything is worth getting better.

Love my post count.

I do remember the Hen parties. My favorite one was when Stephanie got a great post count and didn't figure it out for a couple of pages. We were all staying up to see when that would happen. :lmao:

I stripped our land line down to JUST a land line last year. I was going to cancel it, but the burglar alarm runs through the phone line so we kept it.

We have basic cable - no movie channels or anything.

Our cell plans are pretty basic - no texting or internet or anything fancy.

I am not brave enough to color my own hair, but I only have Landon color it right before we leave for WDW. The rest of the year it is just mousy! :rotfl2:

we wear sweaters here to. We have a programmable thermostat

There is a Subway next door to where I work. I buy a $5 footlong & have lunch for 2 days.

I do try to bring something from home more often though.

DH was hoping to find a flash for his new camera at Circuit City, but the "liquidation" price was $140. No flash for DH. :sad2:
I thought about that but was pretty sure that would be the case for me too. I would like to get a flash before my next trip as I get a shadow on the pics if I use the built in flash with my telephoto lens. It was a pain to have to change lenses for indoor character greets on the trip with Lizzy.

BUT.....I did convince Joe that we shouldn't do a character book as it took way too much time with Lizzy. I suggested squares of fabric and I could make a quilt but he wants to do a T-shirt. Even easier!!!!:thumbsup2

I just won a pin!

I was doing that instant win thing on www.disneyparkscelebrations.com and I won a pin! I forgot that contest was still going on. Definitely a "keeper" since it is limited edition! :)
Congrats!

Bernadette - I'm enjoying your TR. You got some great, out of the ordinary shots!
Thanks (and everyone else who commented). I am only showing a few of the 2,500 that I took.;)

I talked Craig into taking the Backstage Magic tour! Woohoo!
How fun!

Bernadette, yup very excited.
We could always use a photographer if you want to come along.
I would LOVE that! And my AP is still good and even my DDE is good til 2/28/09.

I think all of the others have a minimum age of 10. We took DS on the Mickey's Magical Milestones and he LOVED it, but he is all about vintage things and the history of Mickey and Walt and whatever. He can tell you the release year for most of the classic Disney movies, so that tour was SO him. The steam train is the only one he is old enough for that we haven't done.
I will have to take Joe on that when he's old enough. He would LOVE that!

Did you all know that the Disney website now has most of the menus online for their restaurants?
I'll have to go check that out.

I can't really go into it right now, but the economy has hit my household too. I'm so upset right now it's all I can do to keep from breaking down.

I have to tell myself that "This too shall pass", the question is when?
 So sorry!

Hi all! We played "House Hunters" this weekend in NC. Found 3 that we could see ourselves in. Made an offer on house #1, hoping to hear about that mid week. If that doesn't work out we will make an offer on our 2nd choice. It was 70 degrees out & we dined al fresco yesterday which was wonderful.

We have been gone since Friday so I have some catching up to do...Hope all is well with everyone.
:wizard: Hope that works out well for you guys!

Guess who is on the phone with disney?! My mom, brothers girlfriend and i may be making a 4 night trip next month so im checking prices!
Cool! Hope that works out!:wizard:

I am so not ready to go back to work tomorrow.

thank you for the warm welcome. I met MrsHeg at a DisMeet a week ago and she invited me to this thread. I don't get on but a couple times a week right now, but love the Disboards. I'm married with 3 kids and don't get to Disney quite as often as I would like. I am planning to rearrange my priorities though.
Welcome! I'm Bernadette, married almost 25 years (on Sept 22) to a non Disney lover :confused3 with 3 Disney loving children DD(9), DS(8) and DD(6). We did take 6 family trips between Jan 2004 and August 2008 but DH wants to try something new for our family trip this year so I take the kids to Diseny one at a time. Just home from a trip with DD(8). Taking DS in May and DD(6) for her 7th birthday in January 2010.

What a quandary. :confused3 The Night of Joy will be September 11 & 12 this year. We could come for that and then we would leave on the 17th. That however, would really make me sad, as the 18th is my birthday. And if we are going to stay until the 17th, we might as well stay one more day. However C would run out of points. So I could use mine, no problem.

Exxcept we are staying in a 2BR at SSR for a week, and I would have enough points for a studio at OKW. :) So... do we do OKW at the beginning of our trip or the end? I'm thinking the begining, as we will be at where ever the NOJ is held until 1:00am both nights. Studio will be fine.

Next, we will need a car. We will be doing a lot of resort-resort travel this trip. We want to finally see the Boardwalk. Finally see Jellyrolls. Check out Beaches and Cream.

And lastly, airfare. I love SW. However AirTran opened a flight out of Harrisburg, which would save on time and has cheap parking. But the return from MCO is at 8:00 AM!!! Boooooooooooo. That ruins the last day. Plus Airtran charges for checked bags, any changes, window seats.

We need to come home on Saturday, as C needs at least one entire day of recovery before she returns to work. And actually, I really liked it when I had a day to decompress. The worst time ever was when I had to come to work the day after I got back from vacation. That super stunk.

So there is my dilemma. Our quick 7 day trip is going to turn into a 9 day trip. It is going to be stinking hot. I'm going to have to rent a car. It is going to be smack dab in the middle of free dining, so we will have to figure out where we want to eat by end of June. Did I mention it was going to be stinking hot??? And hurricane season!!!

Off to bed. That's all for now. :hippie:
:wizard: I'm sure you'll work it all. I fly with whoever provides the best service and time schedule.

Bernadette - You will be able to trade the Broadway sets.
I am trying to convince myself that I am over the pin trading thing. It would save SO much time if I could move through the parks without stopping to look at a lanyard every 10 feet. Maybe we will just trade a couple of days and leave the lanyards in the room the other days. :confused3
Thanks! I did buy several of the Broadway sets and got 15% off with Disney Visa so not too bad. I'm sad that I didn't get my act together to get any for Lizzy but she had a few trader pins and never brought them to the parks except the last day and we were too busy for her to think about stopping. Maybe she'll let me take some of the Broadway pins in May and trade them for Pooh's??? I guess it would be more fun to trade herself?:confused3 She's already asked if she can go for my birthday in 2010.

YAY!!!!
I was able to get a concierge studio for 2 more nights!! Now we will be checking into our concierge studio on my birthday! Yippee!

And modifying our remaining 4 nights down to standard view would have screwed up our points so I just left them alone.

Now we have a savannah studio Aug. 1-5, and a concierge Aug. 5-15. Great! Now IPO will have to do 10 nights of ADRs for me! I will only have to do 2 nights of ADRs, because the other 2 nights we will eat at US/IOA. I have no clue what we will eat over there.
Congrats!!!!

I still need to email concierge and tell them they messed up all my ADRs.

all right!! I caught up on photos!!

it's a slideshow....with pithy comments from me:rotfl2:
Thanks for the photos. Nice suite!!!

I survived 2 1/2 hours of exercise

WOW!!!:woohoo:

Bernadette - I would call, and then I would make them e-mail the revisions to me so I had it in writing.

I have the number programmed into my cell phone. ;)

DH did end up getting the Olympus flash. He found it at a different Circuit City for $80 so I let him buy it.

So on Thursday I will be attending the 4th funeral for the year. As my Grandpa passed away early this morning between 4am and 7am. His viewing is on Wednesday and the funeral is Thursday.

The ironic part is 6 years ago today my Pop-pop had passed away. They both passed away on February 9th but 6 years apart. But his funeral and viewing was on Valentine's day. This is not the best time to go as flowers are a fortune. But what can you do.

I am going through pictures. My Aunt and Grandma are here now.

I hope that you are all doing well.

Okay I'm curious. What is every one doing to save money?

We recycle cans and that is spending money for WDW

I line dry my clothes to cut down on the electric bill.

I use half the amount of soap powders that is recomended

I am considering making my own soap powders when I run out of my curent soap powders.

I use coupons

I buy generic at the grocery store.

I make a shopping list on Sunday, go through my freezer and pantry to see what we have, and plan around that. I can feed my family for under 150 dollars a week.

We don't rent movies anymore, we check them out from the library.

We unscrew half the lightbulbs in the playroom.

Shower time has been cut in half.

I can't think of anymore, but I'd love to hear what other ideas people have.

Becky, I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts!

Becky I am so sorry to hear this

February 9th is not a good day for me either, as this is the date my father passed away as well.

Thanks for the phone number! I will call them.

OK....so maybe I will check prices on the flash I'm thinking of at a few online places and see if Circuit City near my office has it. Is the new flash waterproof?;)
