I survived 2 1/2 hours of exercise

I've very proud of myself. I went in and had a brief orientation to the equipment and I mean brief. I think I knew more than the old guy that was showing it to me

Since the fitness center was nearly empty when I got there I decided to have the health assessment. Richard put me on a treadmill and upped my speed every three minutes until I was jogging. At each 3 minute mark they check your heart rate to make sure you are progressing at an acceptable rate. Apparently a lot of people never make the jogging phase as the heart rate goes up too fast just with walking

from there he did a flexibility test (I was way above normal) then a weight lifting test (again way above normal) and last was a lower body strength test. I had to put my back against the wall and lower myself to a sitting postion and hold that position as long as possible. Man did I ever shake, but I still held it for a bit longer than average. He said that was my weakest part of the test. Overall I'm very fit. I really thought he was kidding as I truly haven't worked out in 15 years. So I moved on to the workout equipment and began my circuit. Then I overheard them talking about how fit I was for my age and they couldn't believe that I don't work out

I was feeling pretty good at that point. I finished the circuit and my muscles were pretty much trembling. It didn't matter, I had gone to swim and swim I would. I took a quick shower and put on my swimsuit. Thankfully it fit as I didn't try it on

I went to the competition pool. One of the coordinators was out there and she told me that 66 lengths of the pool is roughly one mile. I knew I wouldn't be doing a mile today

I started laps, alternating strokes, some tiring between the more relaxing strokes. The coordinator was great about cheering me on and giving me encouragement. Of course she knows that I plan to work there which added to the pressure that I put on myself. I ended up swimming 28 lengths in about 20 minutes or so. I was totally spent when I crawled out of the pool. She gave me a big high five and told me she was impressed

She also suggested that I really stretch out later tonight or I'm going to be sore tomorrow. I think she may have something there. Tomorrow I will probably just do some swimming as I need to let my muscles relax. I really should do upper body one day, lower the next. Live and learn or relearn as may be the case. I ended up stopping in later this afternoon I stopped back in to set up a health assessment time for Chris. The trainer I had in the morning was there and asked if I had considered hiring a personal trainer (i.e. him) and I told him that I thought that I could obtain my goals by September on my own. He laughed and totally agreed, but he said that he had to try

So today I faced my nemisis and for now I won. Ask me again tomorrow when everything hurts
