Elizabeth. Get your son some Neutragena acne wash with salicylic acid. I've taken Nick to the dermatologist and that is what they recommend as a face wash for their age.

Thanks for all of the great advice so far! I really appreciate it. This is all something I haven't thought a lot about before since it was so far in the future.

So what is everyones favorite and least favorite features of your current (or any, I guess) home?

I love all of my home now! The only thing I would like different is our basement, it is mostly dirt floors. I would love it to be better for storage.

Elizabeth I hope dh makes it to the grocery store!

Deb your girly bathroom is going to be so cute!

Robyn sorry Lucy is not feeling well

When it is done you can come use it :goodvibes

for drinking or for popping over the boys heads??:confused3 :rotfl2:

Drink it first so as not to waste the alcohol, then feel free to pop them over the head with the empty bottle ;)

Kristine I love your new signature photo :thumbsup2

Theresa and Glynis- Would April, May, June or July be better to visit your area of the world? Are you gone/busy during any of those times? I think Glynis is going to DL at the beginning of June.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/advice.

I have no plans during that time....most of the schools get out end of May, so early June means you could have all of us :goodvibes. Early June also means it's warmer in all of the state...no real risk of freezing overnight temps.

Jen Chris is sitting here commiserating with you. Dallas is getting smoked so he knows that you are not happy. Tampa lost earlier and Tampa is Chris' favorite. Then he needed the Jets to win to put NE in the playoffs and unless there is a miracle in the next 30 seconds that isn't going to happen. He says it is a horrible day for football.

Okay, now I can say it--------

How 'bout them Iggles???????

And now, for my big news! From all of the info I have it looks to be pretty set so I don't think I can jinx it by telling.

Our best Christmas present of all? Phil's parents are buying us.....A HOUSE!

A house! Any house, anywhere we want to live. Okay, obviously within reason, but we're thinking 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, probably ranch style, hopefully at least a partially finished basement. Based on the timing and everything else, it will be in St. Louis. We'd love to move back east, but the timings just not right for a big move so we're happy with settling ourselves in here for now.

Long story short, in one way or another his parents have paid for most to all of his sister's and brother's houses. His sister's was a few years ago, his brothers was this past year. Now they have decided that it is our turn. With the housing market how it stands now they really want us to move kind of quickly on it. In fact, I think his mom's words were "talk to Tia about it and call me in a few days." So, I've been scouring realtor sites and seeing what's out there. I've also got a friend who is an agent so she's going to help us as well. I'm really happy with some of the choices and prices I am seeing in our area so that is really good news.

Right after New Year's we'll start hitting open houses, touring houses, etc. Terra's got a list of things she would like to have in a house. Me too of course! I'm also scouring Craigslist to keep an eye out for furniture deals. We may be light on furniture and decor for awhile, but I don't care. I just can't believe we'll actually have our own home. It's like a dream as I know we wouldn't be able to afford one on our own for a long time.

Now to hit you guys up for some help! Any suggestions to a first time home buyer of things to look for, ask about, check up on?

I had an inkling this might be what your big news was. HOW COOL!!:woohoo: :yay: :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo:

I just noticed that I had a text from Elin earlier today. She said that both her girls made it in safely and that they were hanging by the pool. She even got burnt! Then they were going to head over to MK to see the castle lighting.

And I had no idea that you were down for the count when I texted you. I am glad that you and the kids are all feeling better.

We also went to the pool yesterday afternoon for a couple of hours and got a little color. Our temps were in the 80s every day except last Monday when it was really cold (for WDW) and never got out of the 40s. We really cannot complain at all about our weather for the trip.

Just wanted to stop in and say we are home. Well, Kristin and I are home. Bob is on the road again, on his way to PA. While we were in the Orlando Airport last night he got a call from one of his aunts telling him that his Mom was not doing well at all. By the time we got to Baltimore (on the flight from H E L L) she had slipped into a coma. She died this morning at 4:30.

I am sorry for your loss Miss Elin and Bob:hug:

I'm out of here. I had a nice visit with my brother and saw all the kids. It was a little spotty because the reception on the internet is low for him. But it was great seeing them. He will be moving to Tampa probably by March 2009. We may have to leave Disney for a couple of days if he gets there early in the month. Otherwise, we'll have to definitely plan a trip in the fall to get back to Disney and get down to see him.

That is so exciting for all of you, Vicki!

Tia - I can tell you things I don't like about my employers' houses!

Employer 1 - Their house had these big cut glass windows down both sides of the front door. People who rang the bell could look straight into the house. If you buy a house with an intrusion alarm make sure you can't see the keypad from outside. The bathtubs all had built-in glass doors on tracks which made it really uncomfortable to lean over to bathe the kids. Also, the doors only opened so far. The tub in the master bath was sunken, but it was DEEP. I would have been nearly standing on my head to bathe the kids in that one! The garage was behind the house, and there was a big fence so if somebody was lurking in the driveway to rob you or car jack you your neighbors wouldn't be able to see it happen. The kitchen floor was this beautiful white tile but it got smudgy VERY easily. It was also slick!

Employer 2 - That house was an older, ranch style. No real complaints.

Employer 3 - The house was gutted because of black mold, but the materials they used inside were EXTREMELY cheap. The sheetrock was very thin and it was next to impossible to hang anything on the walls because the bolts would pull out. Also, apparently there is a special sheetrock that is supposed to be used in bathrooms. (I just found that out because my friend's boss is remodeling.) I suspect the sheetrock in the kids' bathroom was not the right kind because there were HUGE water marks down the walls. ExDadboss said it was from the kids letting the bathroom get all steamy from the shower. The shower connected the kids' rooms. It was definitely the most bizarre set-up I have EVER seen. As the kids get older there is no way that shower will be practical for them. That house did not have a regular bathtub, only the super-deep "garden" tub. It was HORRIBLE to have to bathe the kids in that tub. Even though Terra is getting old enough to bathe herself, if she is sick or something it is good to have a NORMAL bathtub. The master bedroom had no door. That was just weird. The hall bathroom door didn't have a lock. The door into the garage locked automatically, and there was NO KEY! :scared1: They had maintenance problems ALL the time. Appliances, plumbing, something was ALWAYS broken. In a house that had been completely redone I don't know why they had so many issues. The switch for the garbage disposal was at hip level so I turned it on accidentally with alarming frequency. The sink was in an island so there wasn't really a wall to put the switch on. There were a lot of steps - one step up to the laundry room, 2 steps down to the living room, 2 steps down to the master bedroom. Like Deb said, if anyone has mobility issues those steps will be problematic.

Employer 4 - Princess's house is also an older, 3 bedroom ranch. I like it, except for the bathrooms. There is one bath between the guest room and Princess's room, but you can not access it from the hallway. The master bath does open to the hallway, but I never use that one because I feel like that is my bosses' "space". I know I would prefer that guests not use my master bath. There is a half bath in the garage but it isn't heated, so if it is really cold outside we don't use that one. Dadboss just replaced the water heater. They had one 40 gallon tank for the entire house - bathrooms, washer, dishwasher, etc. The new heater is 50 gallon because that was the largest that would fit in the closet where the connections are. Dadboss said after 2 showers there was pretty much no hot water left with the old heater. All of my other employers had 2 water heaters, so I had always assumed there were 2 in this house, too.

I did, it felt good to be out and even better that I didn't need a coat. :goodvibes

Mo and I picked up a few things at Target on clearance. New garland for our front door and new bows for our wreaths. And some other odds & ends.

Of course, I should've stayed out. Everyone was in a much better mood when I left ;)

Mo wasn't so cranky, Em wasn't home yet with her nasty attitude and Lu was feeling better.

Lu woke up from her nap screaming and hasn't let Eric or I put her down. We've been tag teaming cooking our "Christmas" dinner. I'm thinking we'll be back at the dr.s tomorrow if she keeps it up.

your poor family can't catch a break!

so my grandmother gave the girls Honey jars that were filled with coins. Virginia got a big jar filled with pennies it had 6.80. Olivia had a smaller jar that was filled with dimes. She got 30.00. They each got some disney dollars in their stockings as well.

what a cute idea!!

We went to see Bedtime Stories. The kids thought it was hysterical, I thought it was cute/ok, Dana thought it was absolutely horrible.

They ran a preview of the sequal to Night at the Museum which is set in the Smithsonian...looks really good.

Tia, Congrats on the opportunity to buy a home. What a generous gift.:goodvibes I know of a nice one for sale if you want to move to New York.

Well besides the obvious things like no termite damage, updated electrical system, & a secure foundation...I would think about how you live now & what would work for your family. Do you want a master near or away from the kids? It's great when they are little but when they get older you may want your bedroom farther away from the kids. I agree with Tammi, you should look into the schools whether you decide to keep homeschooling just in case. Is a basement important to you as livable space or just storage. Do you want a fireplace? Older home vs new construction, that kind of thing. We are going through this process now & it seems so much more diificult than when we bought this (our first) home.

Check out realtor.com but also look at Zillow.com which can tell you how long the property has been on the market & the taxes too.
