DDA Chapter 13

Well, the deer definitely lost, since it died immediately. We won in the sense that Matthew is perfectly fine (though shaken at the time) and the car is still mostly driveable. We lost in that we do have to replace a headlight before we can drive at night and there will be some dents and other cosmetic issues that we won't bother to fix.

You all are very, very lucky. More than one car has been totalled in the machine vs. deer war.

I am glad Matthew is okay.

Yes, we are very, very lucky. There is one spot near here that is 55 mph on a two lane road. There is a creek down a hill on one side. You don't see the deer until it is right in front of you because of the way they come up the hill. He was going less than 55 mph, was able to slam on the brakes, and also could steer into the other lane slightly (no oncoming traffic). He is back out driving, too.

A friend was hit by a deer in the same location 2 years ago on Christmas Eve. Their van was totalled, and the one daughter (Laura's age) had multiple face lacerations from the window. The deer came up the hill and saw the car at the last minute. It tried to leap the van but instead ended up sliced in two with the lower half inside the van. It was a mess, and the daughter was definitely traumatized.

Anne Marie hope you feel better soon :wizard:

Marci sorry to hear about your shower. Hope Randy is able to fix it :wizard:

Beth love the pictures!

Terry look forward to seeing your kitchen!

Elizabeth Happy Birthday to dh :bday:

Does this mean you will get to eat some cake tonight :teeth:

We've known people who have been killed in the car/deer war.

I am glad he is back to driving, that can be so traumatizing. I seem to recall you talking about the Christmas Eve wreck. How is the daugher doing now??

Anne Marie congratulations on post 8000 :cool1:

She's much better, though she still doesn't like deer. She was nervous even to ride in a car for a long time, and it was even longer before she would sit in the same seat even though it was a different van. I told Laura not to tell her that Matthew hit a deer in the same place.

We have a workman in now to hang a garage door & fix the fireproofing under the stairs...Just told me $900 for a few hours work.

that was very smart of you!! Jim's cousin was so traumatized when she hit one that she actually quit college and it took forever before she even drove on that road again (which is really hard to do when you live in a tiny town and that's the only road to the next biggest town)

Can you all tell I have nothing to do at work today??

I am waiting to hear back from our software company...I was trying to run the exact same label/mail merge that I ran last Thursday and instead of giving me just over 800 labels it was giving me 2000 to 4500...I've done some additions but not that many!!

I have lost a few cars to deer!:scared:

I drive more slowly now, and look for them. My heart still races when I see them along the highway!

Terry, nice dishwasher!

We have a very old model.... at least 40 years old.........

It's a Tom!;)

One of these days I threaten to put one in!
I might go out and look at them this weekend!

Oooh nice, thanks for the link. And I like that you can just wash 1/2 a load.

I had seen it two years ago and could not comprehend how it worked until I actually looked at it. I really like that feature. I can see I will be using it a lot more often now instead of hoarding a week's worth of dishes.

We have been experimenting with different hairstyles for Leighanna since the "incident".

This one is called hair smocking.
I did it last night and it has lasted all day.
It's a little rough around the edges. I need to practice a little more!

This road is the only road that will get us into town here, too, so we have to travel it. I think it helped Matthew that he had to drive himself back home. It wasn't far, but it was about 2 miles from home. I was out with the van, and it would have taken dh about an hour to walk to him. (Dh would never think to call a friend to drive him over.) Matthew called home, and dh asked if there were any fluids leaking from the car or damage that would prevent him from driving it and whether he felt ok to drive back home. Also, an angel of a gentleman came along to help him. The man said, "Oh, this happens to me all the time." That made Matthew feel better, I think.

Our current dishwasher has a few years on you. Dh has done dishes since Matthew was a baby. I would give him his bath right after dinner, and dh would do the dishes. My kids now all bathe by themselves, and dh is in the habit of doing dishes. :thumbsup2
