DDA Chapter 13

I have been lucky to see the deer along the road so I have not hit one yet. Our oldest hit one not too far from our house once and Hal's dad hit a bear while traveling up to the cabin way up in Potter County. He had a lot of damage to the underside of his car-----$4,000

Did I tell you that Matthew and dh's Volvo had a close encounter with a deer a couple of weeks ago?

Well, the deer definitely lost, since it died immediately. We won in the sense that Matthew is perfectly fine (though shaken at the time) and the car is still mostly driveable. We lost in that we do have to replace a headlight before we can drive at night and there will be some dents and other cosmetic issues that we won't bother to fix.

I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Yes, we are very, very lucky. There is one spot near here that is 55 mph on a two lane road. There is a creek down a hill on one side. You don't see the deer until it is right in front of you because of the way they come up the hill. He was going less than 55 mph, was able to slam on the brakes, and also could steer into the other lane slightly (no oncoming traffic). He is back out driving, too.

A friend was hit by a deer in the same location 2 years ago on Christmas Eve. Their van was totalled, and the one daughter (Laura's age) had multiple face lacerations from the window. The deer came up the hill and saw the car at the last minute. It tried to leap the van but instead ended up sliced in two with the lower half inside the van. It was a mess, and the daughter was definitely traumatized.

EEEwwww. That is horrible and kind of gross

I see deer next to the road here several times each week on my way home from work at night. Thankfully I've always managed to avoid it. :wizard: :wizard:

We have been experimenting with different hairstyles for Leighanna since the "incident".

This one is called hair smocking.
I did it last night and it has lasted all day.
It's a little rough around the edges. I need to practice a little more!

That is cute, it looks like it took a while to do though. Will you have time to do it in the morning or can it be done at night and have it stay?

That looks beautiful! I always wanted to try that with Laura's hair, but she wouldn't sit still for me, I am horrible with hair, and hers is really thin. Make sure you give it a few squirts of hair spray on top for good measure.

I need to get ready.
I am heading out with some friends from work.
We are going to the riverboats south of Cinci. in Indiana (I think that is where they are?)
I have never been there, but they say it is fun.
I figure I can at least watch them even if I don't want to gamble.

Talk to you all later.

 is right! Neither dh nor I have ever hit a deer either. :Knocking on wood: I used to have to work 2nd shift some nights and would see them all over on the way home. Several ran in front of me but never close enough that I couldn't stop.

Have fun, Tom!

I need to go make something for Miles to eat quickly before swimming and then get dinner ready for the rest of us.

Have a great night, DDA!

I'm off to work. I just spent a couple of hours going through mini dvds. I wasn't sure which ones were blank and which had video on them. It gave me a chance to watch about 3 years of special moments  Boy the boys have changed. I now have the camera and the dvd recorder packed and all the batteries charged  Now to bring home some money :rotfl: :wizard:

Yep... did it last night. The first time took a little while to figure out.
Definitely not an early morning, rush out the door, type of 'do.

Believe me, lots of product went into that hair. And a few squirts of hair spray too for good measure.
I might beoverly cautious these days, but I just don't want to go through that again!

I might take up heavy drinking to go along with my "gambling"!

I'm sorry the car is banged up, but it is great that Matthew wasn't hurt!

Yikes! That's a gnarly accident! :scared:
The only thing I have ever run over is a squirrel.

Tom , that's really cool! I am not very creative when it comes to my charges' hair. Princess has short hair anyway.

Gary hit a deer on his way to work one morning. He was about an hour away from home & thankfully was able to make it back home. We were going out of town for the weekend the next day & had to rent a car. I can't remember the total on the damages but we had to replace the front grill, the hood & the quarter panel on the driver side. I could not believe the damage to the Jimmy.

I love it...I've always wanted to do that for my girls. Was there an instruction sheet on the internet??
