DDA Chapter 13

I've always looked at the League of Women Voters resources. They are (supposedly, I don't know much about them) non-partisan, and for every election just put out verbatim stances on the same issues, questions, etc. I haven't seen what they've put together yet, but in previous years (they cover things other than major elections) I've been pleased with the information they've presented.

Here it is.

I couldn't get very good shots, as they just wanted to run away. Usually they aren't very shy, but these guys didn't want to hang around.

What scares me is having the same party in all 3 major bodies of the government. A democratic president, senate and house. At least if there is a mix there is a better chance of all policies NOT being completely left or right. This president that we have now has been pitiful. We are in the biggest economic crisis and he is nowhere to be seen. He is NOT doing ANYTHING to lead this country, at least nothing that we can see. He bankrupted his businesses in Texas and he bankrupted our country. However, I can't hold the party liable for his incompetencies.

Wanna talk about the quality of public education in TX? :rolleyes1

There will always be people who cross party lines for one reason or another. During our discussion of "Left Wing, Right Wing" there were a couple of issues where we don't fall in the liberal camp. I am all for the death penalty, but I guess the typical liberal stance is against it. I don't have an opinion on guns. I don't have one, but if I decided I wanted one I guess I would want that to be an option. I did think about getting licensed to carry a concealed handgun a couple of years ago, so I could very well revisit that in the future. I am hugely opposed to illegal immigration, maybe because so many of our local resources are completely tapped out from illegal immigrants accessing them. I would love for someone to be SERIOUS about addressing the problem, which I guess is also not a very liberal stance.

Even if all 3 branches are majority Dems, not all Dems will always vote with the party. Everybody has their personal agenda items that they won't change, even if it goes against the grain of their party.

I realize that you all are getting ads ad naseum, imagine what it's like for me...we are in a state that is poised to leap from the party it has always voted for (Republican). In other words we are one of the states that is a "battleground" state....so both parties, political action committees and all of the candidates have decided to spend 10's of millions of money for advertising and smearing in our state. We also have the largest ballot we have ever voted on....so we've got all of the "regular" voting issues (offices, local through country) but also about 50 referendums. :headache:

I keep yelling at the tv...JUST TELL ME THE TRUTH! and not a single one of them does!:confused3

We here in Virginia are in the same political boat that you are, Theresa. It will be interesting to see if the few states that could swing the vote, actually will.

Deb-while I don't have time at work today to do it, I am going to go on to their individual web sites and hunt down the information you are looking for, because I bet we all are worried about the same things.
I know that Obama has a "blueprint" for change but to be honest that's all I know...other than the spin we've been getting for going on 2 years now. Of course each website will have their spin but it might be the closest we get to their true leanings.

That would be great. I am very interested in what you find out.

I did look at the LWV site. That did outline a few issues, but only a select few :confused3 I am glad to read that I am not the only one here with many questions and not so many answers.

So I called member services to see if anything had become available at WDW for our pre cruise weekend. It turns out that I was able to get OKW for the night of the 18th. I kept Vero for the night of the 19th. This will break up the drive some and I'll get to hit DD for Christmas shopping. I also need to exchange our pepper mill since the one we have cracked :scared: There is no MNSSHP on the 18th so we will still not be doing a park, but I can at least to a bit of shopping. The kids like the pool at OKW too. I like the idea of giving Vero a try as maybe we will want to stay there for longer on a future visit. My concern is that October may not be the best month temp wise to hit the beach there. It will be fun to explore though :thumbsup2

OK... I read the League of Women Voters' .pdf file. I don't know any more than I did before... :rotfl2:

Heidi - your pictures are wonderful!

I forget that Virginia is one of those swing states....

OK, you DVC owners... There is/was a guy on the DVC rent/trade board offering points for OKW that would be prefect for our trip in December. We could get a 2BR at OKW for the exact number of points he is offering. A few people had posted on his thread but I PMed him hoping for a response. The thread is now closed and no one has received a response.

I know if you don't maintain your thread on there it gets closed. But there is also supposition that there is absolutely nothing available at Christmastime at the DVC resorts and he probably is not able to rent them out in time.

Do any of you know for certain that there is nothing available?

Thanks. That's the party plans for 2 birthdays from now so I've got plenty of time to plan. Knowing Terra though, the idea won't change in that time and we will be having that party theme come 2010. For next year she is going back and forth between a "playhouse disney" party and a "chocolate" party (now that's my daughter, Phil's too!). She's got crazy ideas, but actually doable and fun sounding. Maybe she needs to go into party planning when she grows up.

If she goes with the chocolate party, could you send an invitation my way? :rotfl: Those do sound like great themes with lots of possibilities.

Hmmm...maybe Laura would like a Chocolate Sweet 16 party. Then it really would be sweet.

Elin if you give me your dates, I'll call MS and inquire. Do you want a 2 br? Or will 2 studios do if that isn't available?

Heidi-beautiful visitors you had today!!

Cool pix Heidi. Does that Momma really only have one leg, or does it just look like it in the picture?

I looked at Syracuse. I clearly remember going to check it out and having to park in a lower parking lot on a steep hill, then walking up that hill to the University. I also remember thinking the surrounding homes were pretty dumpy and scarey looking to a girl that grew up in a small Vermont Town.

My voice sounds awful and I still have a cough. I have to admit that it is a productive cough. I really feel fine though :confused3 I've considered going to the doctors since this is now day 4, but I really don't think that they'd do anything for me.

He is actually looking at SUNY-ESF (NYS public university-Environmental Sciences and Forestry), but it it adjacent to Syracuse University. We've heard that it's not in a great part of the city, so I don't know how we'll feel when we see it. We are also small town people. He is really interested in a couple of their programs, but I think that he could probably do something similar at SUNY-Buffalo or Binghamton University (also SUNY). He was looking at some of the nanotechnology programs at SUNY-Albany, but for some reason he really doesn't like that school.

pixiedust: for feeling better soon!

That is very sweet of you, Tammi.

Here is the situation. If we do a 2BR from 12/22-12/27... should be 230 points. I think that is all I am interested in. Here is why:

If we got 2 studios we would need one for 12/22-27 (82) and one from 12/24-27 (66) which is fewer points.

BUT, I think the chances of us getting studios close to one another with such different booking dates is pretty slim, don't you? So I figure if we can't get the 2 BR we would just go back to plan B and look into 2 rooms at a moderate.

Heidi - haven't you posted pictures of that mama deer before?

There is no way I could drive with a child playing a recorder in the car. I am so glad DS doesn't have a recorder! :rotfl2:

Marci - The cake was good! I brought some over for my bosses, too, because there is no way the 3 of us can eat the whole thing. OK, maybe we could, but it wouldn't be a good idea! :rotfl2:
Sorry the shower is still messed up. :sad2:

Tia - The pediatrician says children are the "vector" for infecting adults with the flu. I get a shot some years, other years I skip it, but I always make sure the kids get them. Our insurance will pay 100% of the cost if I get one, but it is a pain to make an appointment and go get one. If I get one at the pharmacy it isn't covered.

We got this letter in the mail yesterday. I *think* (if I interpreted it correctly) it is some sort of pre-certification saying that DH's colonoscopy IS covered, even though it was diagnostic. If that's true, then that explains why the doctor's office had it in their computer as a covered procedure. So we MIGHT not owe anything other than the $125 we already paid. We shall see!

I forgot to call Mom last night. :headache: I like to talk to her the day before her chemo. Of course she isn't sure if she is having chemo or just a shot to boost her blood cells today. I guess I will call her this afternoon.

I'm pretty sure one of my lovely "vectors" gave me the flu last year, so I will definitely get the shot this year. We also have a boy in our class that is immunocompromised due to a liver transplant, so I want to be sure that I'm not passing the flu along.

YAY if you don't owe anything else on the colonoscopy! We haven't received anything to let us know what we owe on the mammogram or echocardiogram. Nor have I heard any results (so I am going with "No news is good news"). Today we received the insurance paperwork on the PAP, and I owe about $17 for that.

pixiedust: that your mom is doing well.
