Kristine - Yay for good results for Bill! :yay: How much longer will it be before you have the rest of the results?

DH got his biopsy results today. All normal! He is officially in remission! :dance3: He goes in next month to see the Dr. and talk about reducing or eliminating his medication.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

42pages yikes. I never catch up
Relaxingtoday. No parks.
I'm going to die at MF.

I am going to be running circles around you :lmao: :lmao:

You are gonna have a hiney dragging on the ground!!!!! :rotfl:

For me, I am looking at my economic situation today compared to what it was 8 years ago...and since it is certainly NOT better (with no end in sight) today...I can not even remotely consider voting in the same party. (But that's just me)

I can certainly understand that perspective.

To answer the question 'Why haven't we heard about this?', it's because we have ZERO media without a bias one way or another. ;)

I'd hate to discuss politics here, but I'd be glad to via PM or email. I too don't have a ton of love either candidate, but the prospects one presents scare the living daylights out of me. I am sickened to think about the America my children could theoretically grow up in not really based on these things presented above, but for other reasons -- and that some people would like to see the constitution, our rights/personal freedoms, and everything the country was founded on rewritten or disregarded altogether ... to be honest, I'm terrified about this election. It makes me sick, and I usually pay very little attention to politics.

Sorry to pop on just to reply to this... I'm in the middle of a TON of crap, as well as trying to figure out a potential cruise that would need booked next week, and fighting a GI bug. I'm reading along and have thoughts to reply to later, but wanted to offer Deb (or whomever) conversation with this post. I can't guarantee it would be timely conversation though! :rotfl:

I hope you all are doing well :grouphug:

If I had a stronger political knowledge base I would take you up on your offer, unfortunately I don't, and I'm not sure that I want to know more. Things are so bleak for our nation that if I knew the whole truth I'd probably move to another country :sad2:

Our funds are down not, $5000...not $10,000....but $65,000. We had plans for that money....so talk about disgusted....for us this is a crisis of epic proportions....there is no way we could leave it to try to recoup...so now you just try & protect what's left....

I haven't seen our 401K statement recently, but I'm sure we are down at least tens of thousands. We do all high risk investments which in the past have done well for us, but with all that is happening now we could lose it all. The reality is that we need to ride it out as history shows that there are highs and lows economically. I wish I had a magic ball though.

:cool1: :cool1: That is great news. Now if you can just get your mother through her crisis maybe you can relax a bit.

I don't usually get into political discussions but I agree that this year we are being bombarded with a lot of negativity. After having just put two kids through college I can practically guarantee that Obama had both academic and need-based scholarships for any schooling he received. McCain's education was paid for too! I also know that many of my friends and then subsequently their children were able to travel to Europe on a shoestring, so none of those comments hold any water with me.

I think that both candidates are intelligent, savvy men who have hired the best spin doctors out there. They can make anything from the past of the other party look horrible. They can also make the attacks on their own candidates look like it is a mortal wound that should not have been inflicted.

I am not looking at any more advertising and deleting all political emails and answering machine messages for the next month. I am basing my vote on the general beliefs of the man who is running. I am not picking a party. I am not looking at what happened to him 35 years ago. The moral character of the man is what will finally decide my vote. And guess what? I have not yet decided who I am going to vote for...
I agree too with what Elin says. Everytime I get some wacky email I check it out at snopes. com. Here is a link directed to the first part of Deb's email, and just like Elin stated, his schooling was paid with grants and scholarships. Those were paid off by proceeds from his best-selling books. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/money.asp . This link speaks of campaign donations. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/donations.asp

That's all I time to look for but I'm sure the others are in there too. I firmly believe that candidates should only be allowed to speak of theirselves and their ideas and leave the opposing party out of it. I fear that it is just going to get more muddy these last few weeks of the campaign.

What scares me is having the same party in all 3 major bodies of the government. A democratic president, senate and house. At least if there is a mix there is a better chance of all policies NOT being completely left or right. This president that we have now has been pitiful. We are in the biggest economic crisis and he is nowhere to be seen. He is NOT doing ANYTHING to lead this country, at least nothing that we can see. He bankrupted his businesses in Texas and he bankrupted our country. However, I can't hold the party liable for his incompetencies.

What I would really like to see is each candidate producing a list of their own key beliefs, the ones that they plan to abide by while in office. My key concerns are:

Economy
Health Care
Military actions
Abortion
Education
Social Security

If I had the two views side by side with no spinning, no mud slinging, then I could make an educated decision. As far as I know those lists don't exist. :sad2:

Deb-while I don't have time at work today to do it, I am going to go on to their individual web sites and hunt down the information you are looking for, because I bet we all are worried about the same things.
I know that Obama has a "blueprint" for change but to be honest that's all I know...other than the spin we've been getting for going on 2 years now. Of course each website will have their spin but it might be the closest we get to their true leanings.

I looked today and I'm down $16000 this year. $7800 just in this last quarter!

:confused3 Stop looking! :rotfl2:

For the most part (there are a couple of exceptions on here) none of us needs that money for a while. Although this crisis is worse than anything in decades, there have been other major economic downturns which we personally have weathered. There is every indication that we will all come out of this at some point.

If not, then it doesn't really matter what is in there.... :scared:

I completely agree--im so tired of the ads that are just showing why we shouldnt vote for the other..id love to see them juts beign able to speak of themselves...cannot wait til the election is over!

Terrific health news today!

Kristine, and, actually, everyone who has money invested... I am so sorry for your financial situations. There is no way we can't all be affected. It will take years and years for us to all come out of this, and I can only hope that our friends and families here can escape relatively unscathed. I think that is silver-lining talk, but I hope it does not get any worse for any of us.

Well said, Elin.

You know, there is a lot of finger pointing going on. I was very interested to see the 60 minutes story this last week. It helped me understand part of what is going on (sort of, I don't have a financial mind...) but there are many other factors going on.

Is it the Dem's fault because they've been in power the last couple of years? Is it the Rep's who were in power before them? Is it Clinton's fault for Fannie/Freddie and the belief that every American should have a house, no matter if they can afford it or not? Is it the greedy people on Wall Street?

My two cents (okay, maybe it's only worth half a cent) says it's a combination of a number of things, but weighted heavily on a couple of things. I just feel lucky that the money we've invested is for retirement and long-term so I can afford to hopefully wait it out. If the unthinkable happens with the market, I'll just keep dragging myself to work if I'm healthy enough.

Deb --It's hard to find a side-by-side of beliefs that has been done by an independent group and not written so as to sway towards one side or another. If anyone finds one, I'd love to see it.

:wizard: :wizard: That Randy comes up with a plan to fix the shower or that the plumber can get there quickly:wizard:

I vote for taking them on a cruise and eliminating a party altogether :rolleyes1 You can even have their room on the ship decorated:cool1:

My voice sounds awful and I still have a cough. I have to admit that it is a productive cough. I really feel fine though :confused3 I've considered going to the doctors since this is now day 4, but I really don't think that they'd do anything for me.

Thank you! I think Randy's last try will be tonight, then I'll have to make the call to the plumber.

A cruise is our summer vacation next year, and thankfully, I've been paying on it for a while now so it's almost paid off. I really hope you enjoy yours THIS MONTH!!!! as much as we've enjoyed our cruises.

Andrew did finally decide on a swim party (after telling me three other ideas) and I booked it last weekend. A really cool natatorium and it's fairly inexpensive compared to other parties we have done. Now I'm trying to find bulk beach towels cheap to give as party favors.

Jake is the one who is waffling each day. Before this year, they both picked one thing and stuck to it. I guess they are getting more opinionated. :confused3

One thing they both still agree on is that they will give their gifts away again this year. Andrew's are going to the Salvation Army again for their Forgotten Angel program and Jake is collecting books for the school library.

I don't have a 401, but I do have a 457 plan through work. 70some% of my contribution is invested in stock funds. I think I need to redistribute into something safer. I invest high-rish as well, since I won't be touching it for years. I went through this in 01 after 9-11. I lost so much, but then the economy rebounded, as it will again. I'm lucky. I have the time to make up the losses over time. It's the older generation that loses it and isn't able to recoup.

I've always looked at the League of Women Voters resources. They are (supposedly, I don't know much about them) non-partisan, and for every election just put out verbatim stances on the same issues, questions, etc. I haven't seen what they've put together yet, but in previous years (they cover things other than major elections) I've been pleased with the information they've presented.

I realize that you all are getting ads ad naseum, imagine what it's like for me...we are in a state that is poised to leap from the party it has always voted for (Republican). In other words we are one of the states that is a "battleground" state....so both parties, political action committees and all of the candidates have decided to spend 10's of millions of money for advertising and smearing in our state. We also have the largest ballot we have ever voted on....so we've got all of the "regular" voting issues (offices, local through country) but also about 50 referendums. :headache:

I keep yelling at the tv...JUST TELL ME THE TRUTH! and not a single one of them does!:confused3

I would like to see that information too, in simple sentences, not these long-winded comments that they've been giving the media, that don't even answer the questions!

Yes! :teeth: ;)

Hopefully now that it is the end of the season you can find cheap towels. Well, maybe it's not the end of the season in Texas, but over here it is.

We went to a party once where the kids were instructed to bring a gift for trade. So we brought a wrapped gift and then somehow they got given out. I can't remember if it was a grab-bag type thing or if you won a game you got to choose a gift, or what. But anyway, everyone got to go home with something and the birthday child didn't have more toys! :rotfl: Donating is wonderful too. :thumbsup2
