DDA Chapter 12

I'm in the need of some major pixie dust right now. My dad just called me to let me know that things with my mom have spiraled downhill rather rapidly. She's on dialysis 3 times a week, and for the last 2 weeks at each session, she's passed out. Her blood pressure becomes almost non-existent, and it's been really puzzling. Her doctor's ran some tests today and found that her new (well, 5 year old) heart valve is not functioning at all anymore. That is affecting her dialysis and causing her to pass out. It's very dangerous, as the dialysis is not working effectively, without that valve, so her body is collecting all the poison and not getting rid of it.

She has an emergency meeting with the heart specialist at 8:00 tomorrow morning, and they will most likely schedule her for surgery as soon as possible. They will try to get her stabilized, but dad is projecting that surgery could come as early as Monday, if not sooner.

If you could spare some prayers, good thoughts, pixie dust, etc., for my mom and dad, I would appreciate it. She's in good health otherwise, so hopefully this surgery will really fix her up.

oh no!! You've got all the prayers and pixie dust I can send!!

Thanks. She's in the hospital until after a decision has been made, so I know she's in a good place, but still....

Glynis :wizard: & prayers for your mom

Deb glad Hunter is on the mend!

Tammi Hope Alyssa is feeling better.

Theresa & Elin what time do you take off tomorrow?

So Elizabeth which option did you choose :teeth:

Marci I hope your home repairs are being taken care of :wizard:

Thanks, Elizabeth! Me too!

Have you heard from your mom today? How did the second infusion go?

I just called her when I realized it was late enough that she should be finished. She was still in her chair at the chemo center, but she was finished. She said she is achy, but other than that she is OK. She sounded kind of loopy, like she had been under anesthesia. Once I talked with her for awhile she started to sound more normal so maybe she was just groggy. She usually sleeps during her infusions. Her regular oncologist is back now. He said next week they are going to cut back on the Benedryl they give her before the Taxol and see if she feels better that way. I didn't realize her appt. time changes every week. Next week her infusion isn't until 1 PM, so it will be pretty late by the time she gets home.

Janet - I went home and changed my shirt. :)
Princess was ready to just stay there all day! She wanted to watch a movie and eat lunch! :rotfl2: We did end up reading 3 books (we still have a basket of DS's picture books near the fireplace), petting Arabella, and walking down by the lake to see the ducks. There was a mama duck with 4 babies but they were on the opposite side of the lake in the grass. I don't know if Princess really did see them or if she was just saying she saw them!

Princess needs to get dressed for ballet in about 15 minutes.

I was popping in to say hi, and I noticed the prayer request from Glynis. Your mom and dad (and you of course!) are in my prayers. Please know that I am thinking of you!!!

Life is crazy busy with work. I knew that FT would be busy, but I don't think I realized how busy. I definitely have new found respect for all of y'all who work FT, take care of your families, especially the ones who have traveling spouses or are single moms. Whew! Anyway, I keep trying to keep up here, but I don't DIS much at all. I have 3, 12 hour shifts a week plus class all day on Friday. Hopefully it'll slow down after classes end in mid December.

So sending everyone a big hello and hug!

Denise-it's so good to see your type face!! Come back to us whenever you can!!

I'm not completely clear on the details. Basically lenders were lending larger quantities of money to people that could not afford it. They were giving money based on what someone "should" be making 10 years down the road. The initial interest rates were phenominal, but once the initial period was over, the rates skyrocketed and people could not afford their payments. This caused many forclosures or people being forced to sell their homes just to get out of finicial ruin. With so many houses flooding the market the overall value of homes decreased. Since many financial institutions sell off their mortgages to investment firms those people were counting on the interest as their return on investment. If people can't make the payments there is no return and now the investors are caught holding properties which they cannot sell and which is then a huge loss for the investor. Now nobody wants to purchase the mortgages from the investors or banks. So that's my kindergarten version as I understand it. I'm sure I'm missing some issues and maybe someone else will enlighten us all.
Also, back when the housing boom started, people took out the interest only loans, usually a 7 yr ARM and were paying the minimum payment (no interest). At year 7, which is now, the loan is readjusted, the principal needs to be paid, which is now makes their monthly payment much higher. People got into those houses with the intent of moving when the principal became due. Now they can't afford to refi and the house isn't selling. Another reason why there are so many foreclosures.

Did everybody see this?

The tour will be here 10/14 at the mall across the street from me! I TRIED to win a pin but I struck out. Sad, sad. :sad2:

We saw that before, and have the Cincinnati event on our calendar! :yay:

Glynis and Debbie -- :wizard: and  Your families will be in my prayers!

My girlfriend called me tonight and asked me if Emma mentioned the incident in school today. I told her she hadn't and she was surprised so she filled me in on it. Emma's class had a substitute and my girlfriend was in the class volunteering and said the most of the kids in the class were being rather unruly and doing all those things kids do when there is a sub. The sub was annoyed that the kids kept digging through their desks and chatting. So she told them all they needed to stay out of their desks and continue on with their work. By this time my girlfriend was in the hallway and as she was making her way back in she heard the sub snap at one of the kids. She then walked back over to where she was sitting and Emma had her head on her desk sobbing hysterically. Emma was the one she snapped at. Emma's pencil broke and she went into her desk to get a new one and "got caught". Now Emma didn't mention any of this but I asked her about it and she got upset, she was afraid we'd be mad at her. I am willing to give the sub a bit of leeway that it is beyond frustrating that the kids act all crazy when there is a sub but I think snapping at the kids like that is uncalled for.:sad2: Most of the kids in Em's class were in her class last year and we all know how well they functioned with a sub.

Poor Emma!

I'm glad Hunter is better. His ear infection must have made it's way to Alyssa. She complained of it hurting last night after she got out of the shower. Then she complained in the middle of the night, even though I had given her some children's motrin. So I gave her half of an adult tablet. I hope I can keep her medicated enough to get through school, then I'll take her to the dr. afterwards.

Oh no! I hope Alyssa is on the mend quickly! :wizard:

Thanks, Heidi... that is the site I am using. I can't see that I am going to WDW TOMORROW!!! :yay: :dance3: :yay:  :cool1:  :woohoo: :cheer2:

Hooray! :yay: Have a wonderful time!

Wow. $59 per night at a Value! Our first trip in 1/05 we got Pop for $55 per night. The thing that is keeping us home until next August is the combination of lack of APs and outrageous airfare. :guilty: Plus trying to figure out dates that would work for both DH and DS is a pain.

That kind of increase is why we bought DVC when we did. We went in December of 2005 and stayed in a value for $49/night, no AP rate or anything - just value season. In December 2006, the rate was $70-something, for the same kind of room, same time of year, etc. That was the clincher for us!

Hi Denise! Please stop in when you can, I miss you!

We're having a nice time in Chicago. It's warmer than I expected, but we're staying downtown so our particular weather is very nice since everything is shaded by the buildings. Our hotel (Wyndham Downtown) is very nice. A block from N Michigan Ave, not far from Navy Pier, Grant Park, etc.... it's a really great location! Our drive was uneventful, other than stopping to feed the girls (we NEVER used to stop on a 6 hour trip! ;)). Last night we ordered a pizza from Giordani's, and called it a night. Today, the girls and I hit the "Magnificent Mile" (and moreso the side streets, where some of my favorite spots hide!) while Kyle presented his case. He's back now, and as soon as the girls eat (about 20 minutes) we're heading out to Navy Pier for the night.

I hope you all are doing well!

(And as a side note, I'm a DVC snob. Do families with infants and toddlers really do dishes (bottles, etc) by hand, and in the bathroom sink(!?) on most vacations? It's grossing me out, and also annoying me because I'm spoiled. There, I said it. :rotfl: I'm having a hard enough time reconciling the fact that we only booked a studio for March (severe addonitis all of a sudden!), let alone trying to fathom staying in a regular hotel room for that long!)

Have a good evening!
