DDA Chapter 11

Janet and Tammi
I worry about kids playing football and they aren't even mine, but it is such a rough sport.

As for football, I have a cousin who the football coach would love to have on the team, but the doctor said no way no how and refuses to sign the consent form. Cousin has asthma and the doctor hates that he plays soccer, but that may have ended as of last year.

Kristine love the 1st day of school picture!

Does anyone know when Becky was to return?

Good Morning. The kids are off to school. They were all up on time and even seemed happy  Colby is excited that he gets to go on the big playground today. I need to run a few errands before I pick him up so I guess I should hit the shower.

Elizabeth I hope your headache went away & that you made it home safely on your own :wizard:

Thanks! It didn't get any worse, so by the time Momboss arrived I was feeling pretty normal. My head still felt weird, but not debilitated.

I'm glad everyone is getting back into the routine of school with good days.

Elizabeth - hope you staved off your headache.

Jen - continued :wizard:

My kids' teacher assignments came today. They both got who they were hoping for, and I'm pleased with the assignments. Alyssa has the same 1st grade teacher that Nicholas had, so that makes it easy for me, already knowing her. Nicholas has a male teacher for the first time, which I think will be good for him. Thursday is back to school night.

So tonight I got to take Nicholas to his football practice. He's been playing for a few weeks now, but since I've been away this was the first time I've gone. Boy, I think we are in for a long season. He was pretty good at soccer, but I think he's in for an awakening. The age group is 8, 9 and 10. He is the smallest kid out there and probably won't get played that much. He seems to be enjoying it, so I talked to him about not expecting much and just taking the year to learn the game. We'll see how it goes.

Glad the kids got good teachers! :thumbsup2
Hopefully Nicholas will have fun playing football and not sustain any injuries!:wizard:

Nice picture. I don't think I ever realized how much your kids look alike. No doubting that they are siblings:goodvibes

Yay for back to school! Nice pic of the kids! :)

DS brought home 3 more supply sheets yesterday. I might as well go to Sam's and buy a pallet of Kleenex and another of paper towels because they ALL want those. The math teacher wants a ream of paper. Um, no, not again, no way. She was kind enough to break down the list into what she wants given to her and what the kids may keep in their backpack but I am NOT buying a ream of paper to donate. If I see 2-3 photocopied math sheets coming home EVERY DAY I will consider sending paper later in the year.
$10 for the PE uniform, $30 for the percussion kit, maybe $15 for another band polo if the old one is too small.
The science teacher came up with a supply list by class period. DS is supposed to bring (and hand over) highlighters. I will think about it.

Susan is bringing the boys over to play with Princess today. I need to scoot!

Kristine love the 1st day of school picture!

Does anyone know when Becky was to return?

I believe they are docking in Aruba today. I've been reading along to Andrew's (fromUK) live trip report and he's been giving some good quick reviews.

I was supposed to make cookies for work today - didn't get home until 8pm last night and completely forgot when I saw my bed. I guess I have a quick stop at the grocery store today before work!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi all! Didn't quite catch up, but I wanted to wish everyone a good morning. Yesterday was okay, some grumpiness on my part but I know it was frustration and it was only in my mind. ;) The girls seem to have a really rough 45 min or so right after school. BigSis has attitude like you wouldn't believe that suddenly disappears about 45 min later. Cinderella gets totally frustrated about homework if any reading/writing is involved. I'm hoping that improves as she gets used to the longer day (she would still nap 1/3 of the time).

It sounds like I will have a phone interview today as well! Last night, Kristi met the lady who lives across the street from her. She has a 7 week old baby and mentioned that she was looking for someone as she is going back to work soon. Her husband travels for work and can be gone for weeks and sometimes months at a time. Kristi told her about me and the lady seemed interested. She said she would call me today to talk about the job. It sounds like the specific hours may fluctuate, but that could work for us. Plus, it would only be a mile from home which would be a vast improvement over 27 each way. So I guess we'll see!

my mom has been feeling this way, not financially, but emotionally I know. I told her she raised me to be this way...so it's all her fault;)

Just wait until your girls get a little older. You'll understand. You'll be happy that they are strong enough to handle it but sad that they are struggling. You'll wish they would come to you for strength but proud they are dealing with it.

Can you tell I'm dealing with this right now? I can't believe that Becky made the decision to come to school so far away. I'm really proud of her and was worried that I didn't make her strong enough to EVER make this move. However, now that she is doing it, I'm sad that she doesn't need me. Such a quandry.

Does anyone else have colorful leaves all over their lawn?

If the weather is "just right" we might get a few in November... I really wish we did!

Well, Princess had the most fitful nap she has had in months. She made some sort of a noise every 5 minutes, and now after only an hour she is ready to get up. She was tired, too, because she was falling asleep in the car before lunch. When she finished eating she told me she was tired and ready for nap. I hope she's not getting sick.

I hope she isn't getting sick!

I am hanging in there. My vision is OK now, and I worked through the slurred speech/not being able to get the right word out. Now I just have a headache. I drank 2 bottles of water and took 600 mg. of ibuprofen. I tried to call Momboss to ask her if she could come home but I couldn't get her at her office or on her cell so I'm still working. I'm hoping it doesn't get bad enough that I need DH to come get me. I think I should be able to drive home.

I'm glad it got no worse. I take Excedrin migraine and that helps some.

Awwww...Nick is reading a bedtime story to Colby

 That is so awesome -- did you capture the Kodak moment? The blue ribbons look great in the room! It helps bunch up the drapes so they look more yellow, too.

This is Riley's 1st year playing football & they had their 1st game today after school. They lost 24 - 34, but I thought that was not to bad. He seems to be really enjoying it. I am scared to death that he will get hurt though :faint:

Good luck to Nicholas!

PD to Riley! I have a feeling that Andrew will get recruited for school football next year. They don't have a lot of kids, plus he's fast on his feet. I guess that will give him incentive to run faster as he won't get tackled as much!

Some pictures from tonight...

I know you aren't supposed to say a football player is cute, but he is. :)

Thank God it was our official first day of school!!

Chris: 5th
Kirsten: 4th

They all look great. It really puts in to perspective how long this thread has been around -- we are seeing kids grow up!

I have my annual state board meeting for the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs today and tomorrow. I am driving my boss' van since her right knee still bothers her when she drives for any period of time. She is the state treasurer and has many boxes of paperwork that won't fit into my new little car!

Her knee replacement seems to have gone well, and her PT appears to be strengthening the knee but the continual bending of that knee gets painful after a long bout of driving.

I will have my laptop with me but I don't know how much time I will have to check in. I hope you all have great days. :goodvibes

Safe travels!

I'm multitasking this morning. Laundry is drying. I'm vacuuming the floors while trying to burn photopass cds for my family. Man that takes a long time. Who knew:confused3 After I get the cds burned I really need to call HP about my laptop that doesn't want to recognize electricity :headache:

Vicki-

Kristine & Marci- Love the first day of school pics!!

Jen- Still got my fingers crossed! :wizard:

Tia- :wizard: that you wow her on the phone interview today!! Right after school is always insane here too. I think it has to do with them finally being allowed be "off".

Elizabeth- I am glad your headache felt better quickly yesterday.

Tammi- Nicholas is soo cute in all his gear!!!!!

Deb- I think Colby's room looks great!! Don't you just love those wonderful sibling moments.

Elin- Have fun today at your meetings.

I'm sure I missed a few so 's and :wizard:

We have Molly's meet the teacher tonight at preschool. I found out that she has my niece's former teacher and I am quite excited. She has the reputation at the school as the "Mean Lisa", there are 2 Lisa's. But she really isn't mean, she is just firm and I think a lot of people mistake that for mean. I think Mo will come a long way this year.

Emma has her 1st Girl Scout meeting tomorrow night. I think this year will be a good year but a challenging one for me and the 3 other Brownie parents, we have to take turn leading the meetings, which should be interesting to say that least. The blind leading the blind is what comes to mind! At our parent meeting we all discussed what we wanted to get out of the year and everyone wants to do more group sponsored activities so the girls can get a chance to socialize outside of the meetings. One of the things we are looking into is a trip to Charm City cakes with Duff!!! One the moms said her daughter saw an episode and there was a troop at the shop where they got a hands on lesson and got to make their own little cakes. I hope that they can get that scheduled, it would be so much fun.

Did I mention that neither of the girls are playing soccer this fall!!! :yay: Molly is doing ballet and Emma wants to play the violin in school so we sort of pushed them to give up soccer for the season. If they want to play in the spring we'll sign them up but I think it will be great (for all of us) to take a break. I am excited that we won't have to spend the whole weekend at the fields. But it's not like our calendar isn't full.

I had no clue you were driving that far! :scared1: Holy cow! You need a new job NOW! (I say that, but it took me 8 weeks of looking for a job before I had any offers that would actually be suitable.)

Marci - The boys look very handsome! :)

Robyn - Yay for no soccer! Are you and Emma still coming to Dallas in October?

I am so excited about the no soccer!!!

Yep we are still coming. :thumbsup2 Emma still doesn't know, I refuse to tell her as I don't want to listen to her yammer about it for forever. I actually just had to change our outbound flight. They put us on the last connecting flight that doesn't get in until 11:30pm. So now we are coming in at 8pm.

What I can't believe is that they charge $6/seat for confirmed seats. That's insane!!!

Good Morning All-

I can't wait to get Cassidy her own bed again...only so I can sleep the whole night through. She lets out a whole lot more information as she's falling asleep:lmao: There is a senior she's crushing on and from what I can tell he's reciprocating (why else create a club and make a girl the VP?;) )

I also just got off the phone with Chanon....she's one of the few whose voice sounds NOTHING like it does in my head:rotfl: . Glynis-do you know anything about the Candlewood Suites on North Temple??

No, but I can find out about them, if you want. North Temple is a pretty good location. Let me dig around.

Well, it's close to the airport, so that would be good for you. It looks relatively new (not surprising, there. Things are growing up fast out there.). It's got the second highest rating, so that sounds promising. It would be extremely easy for me to get there to pick you up!! That's important!!!

Chanon doesn't charge anything. ;)

Marci the boys look so much older in the new picture, versus the pic in your sig!

Boy, I missed a lot, yesterday!

Elizabeth - I'm glad your migraine cooperated. Mine never do! I always have to lock myself away from the family in a darkened room with an ice pack on my head. If that doesn't work, I have to throw up! Then I pass out on the bed for a few hours. It's exactly the same with Jacob. Luckily, he didn't have any migraines this summer. Guess we kept him better hydrated!

Tammi - Nicholas looks so cute in his uniform. I can understand how nervous you are, though. I really don't want Jacob to participate in a contact sport. Yikes!

Kristine - Your kids look so grown up! I can't believe how much they've grown in the time we've all been together. I need to find where Alan put the camera so I can download my kids first day pictures.

Deb - I like the curtain tie backs! You really have the knack for pulling rooms together. I'm glad that the boys are liking school! Makes it easier, huh?

Tom - 1 hour on the bus!!! That's ridiculous! My kids are on the bus for 15 minutes after school, and that is too much for them. I told them it's better than the 1/2 hour walk it would take them, since I won't drive to pick them up! Mean mommy!

Well, I spent yesterday washing all the 0-3 month baby clothes and getting them put in the dresser. It felt good to do something for Peanut! Alan is picking up paint for the boys room today, and I'll start painting soon. I say I will, but it will probably really turn into Alan doing it. Paint fumes and I are not friends!

Today I need to do the laundry for the rest of the family that I neglected yesterday. Oh well. It's always something, right?
