My MIL threw $9 into a pot & had us all pick numbers for the horse race yesterday. My 4 yr old DD had the winning number & won the pot.

We asked how she was going to spend the money. My smart girl immediately replied - I'm putting all of it in our Disney jar!! :D And made sure she got her money from Daddy as soon as we got home & in it went. Talk about a proud mom!

That's really great! Do you think that she could come here and have a talk with my DS12? He has no inclination to save and every cent he's made doing lawns this spring has gone to video games and electronic gadgets!

I guess that I should be proud of him for working to make his own $$$, and I shouldn't get bent out of shape over how he spends it. {{sigh}}

:Pinkbounc That's super! This summer (dd's, 8 and 6,don't know it yet) we are going to set up a saving system. Basically, we are going to have 3 cans, 1st one for Disney, 2nd for charity and 3rd one for savings accounts. Each time the girls earn money, they will need to figure out 10% of the amount for Disney (or more if they'd like), 10% for charity, 50% for savings and the remainder as mad money for the summer. Both girls have summer birthdays and during the summer I am much more consisitent with allowances, as I am a school teacher! DH and I hope to match what they save but with the trip, our own budget is tight! Hooray for summer, only 6 more days until end of school year! (We are not forgetting our son, he is only 1 year old...a bit too young to save $ on his own)
