...by translating the Spanish-language newspaper reports about Gov. Sanford for my friends and me!! They are pretty juicy, too.

Aaah, good to see my tuition dollars at work!!! (She is a rising college senior with a double major in English/Spanish.)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Is she going to get her Masters or what jobs is she planning on getting?

My dd is starting college in the fall and loves languages however we say to her, what job are you going to get with that? She tested out of Spanish 1 & 2 and is signed up for Spanish 3.

She will have loans to pay back so employment is a concern out of college. Right now she is going International Business.

She's always been interested in Journalism/Communications, etc. but I think she has decided not to pursue them - she is hoping that Spanish will give her an edge in whatever career she chooses. I think at this point she is just hoping to find a reasonable entry level job in something and try it for a couple of years before grad school. Most of the programs she has in mind say they don't want students right out of college - they want them to work for a while first.

She doesn't want to teach but she may think about a school-related job - admissions or something like that at the college level. She's also had some retail experience so she might like to look at something with a large chain - buyer or something , not just selling.

At this point she's just glad she has another year before she has to decide - and I'm glad she can tell me what the "Love Gov" and his Argentinean sweetie whispered to each other!

The only spanish I know is from watching Jaws on Telemundo.

Vamos de agua. RAPIDO! heheheheheee

:rotfl:Wonder how you say, "You're going to need a bigger boat?":rotfl:

She's pretty good - she says she is not "fluent" but she is proficient in conversation. I think she's great - she can read a whole novel in Spanish and write a coherent essay on it. And, most importantly, she can translate any Spanish-speaking person who is standing in line next to us at WDW. I have always wondered what they are saying - apparently they speak the international language of the tourist - "God, it's hot. Why isn't this line moving? Don't hit your sister." and so on...:rotfl:

"Tu necesitaras un barco mas grande."

That's her best attempt - she says if a native speaker reads it there might be a mistake but she thinks that's pretty close.

Of course she must know:

Por favor mantenganse alejados de las puertas

LOL! It's our family motto - we all know it by heart and we even say it occasionally when we are getting in and out of the mini van.

I was so happy they finally put this on a T shirt - I bought it for DD15 and she wears it occasionally - we love it!

My DD12 and I love to watch the game shows on CH. 56. She translates for me. They are so animated and she tries to mimic them in English.:lmao:
