I just sent her out with my credit card to fill up the car. On the way to the gas station she got lost.:upsidedow Somebody tailgated her and she got nervous. So now she's home again. :goodvibes

Neither of my kids have been anxious to get their license (DS was 20~). We live in a busy suburb of Atlanta so it's not really learner-friendly. You can easily get yourself killed. Well, she finally got up her nerve.

She and her boyfriend went out for dinner. In GA a newly licensed teen cannot carry other teens for the first 6 months  so the BF drove his car and she drove ours and they met at Panera Bread. Their first date that doesn't involve one parent or the other. And they're so cute about it--he has a red Jeep Grand Cherokee and she has a red Jeep Wrangler rag top. Cuz you know it's important to match

That is great! Congrats to her. :goodvibes

I sooooo remember wanting to drive everywhere when I first got my license. Now, I dread it

Yay! I distinctly remember those first few drives without parental supervision. Exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time! :)

Yeah!!! Congrats to your DD!

My DD is now driving too (since April) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that she has her license!!!

you HAVE to get a pic in the matching Jeeps, lol.....I remember when we thought DH was going to be transfered to GA, we discussed how hard it would be for our DD to learn to drive there. We live outside Chicago where every neighborhood is a grid system...all the curves, traffic, hills etc in GA,,,I would freak learning to drive there. Congrats to your DD, how fun!

Awww! Congratulations to your girl!! My almost 15 year old is already talking about getting her license, and it's kinda funny to see the look my husband gets in his eyes...

She's already decided she wants a little red Chevy truck, and she wants the license plate to say "BUPPA JR". Ever since she's known how to talk, my father has been "Buppa". He had a big ol' red Chevy truck that he bought new the same month she was born, and just recently had to retire it. So she wants to carry that on, sort of.

Gratz to her! I just got back from my 16 year old driving me around practicing. He still has his permit.

My DS18 is directionally challenged too. He has gotten better in the couple years he has been driving but he doesn't like to drive to new places alone. It sure is nice when you can say, honey, can you run to the store and get some milk :thumbsup2.

DD15 wants a red, ragtop Jeep.

My DD 16 has had her license for about 10 months now. I just love it:thumbsup2 She is so responsible. We bought her a car which enabled her to work full time this summer. Plus, she has to drive to high school which is 30 miles away:eek: No buses available:sad2:

DD16 got her license in February and got a car in July- she paid for it with her saved up babysitting $. It has been so nice having her run to the grocery store to pick up something that I didn't know we were out of.

DD turns 16 on December 1st. We just signed her up for driver's ed for Christmas vacation. She is still insisting she has to go for her permit on her actual birthday. She doesn't want to wait 4 weeks! When she was born, this is the thing I dreaded most. Now that she is a teenager and I spend all my free time driving her around, my tune has changed. :rotfl: I cannot wait until she can drive herself!

Darsa, I love your story about your DD and her Buppa. That is too cute.

DH is a firefighter / EMT who has seen too much in his 30 or so years on the job. We aren't sure of exactly what DD will be driving but whatever she ends up with it will be BIG. No cute little sports cars for her I'm afraid.

I was :confused3 about this message. The minimum age for drivers license in our state is 17.

Most 17 year old get their license. IIRC, this is only a restricted license and the full license is received at 18.

In our state you can get your instructional permit which allows you to drive a car with a fully licensed driver 21 years of age or older. You have to complete 30 hours of drivers education classes and take a permit test before you can get your permit. You then have to complete 6 hours of behind the wheel training with a certified instructor and an additional 30 hours (10 of which have to be at night) to get your provisional driver's license. With the provisional you can drive ONE unrelated person for the first 6 months and then only as many people as there are seat belts in the car. You have this until you are 18 when you are then fully licensed with no restrictions.

If you live on a farm you can get a farm permit at age 14. If you live in South Dakota you can get a driver's license that allows you to drive from dawn to dusk at age 14.

That's pretty much what it is like here. Kids can get their permit by taking a written test at 15. At that time they can take drivers ed. Once drivers ed is completed and they have had the beginners permit for 6 months they can take the road test to get a restricted license. They can drive alone from 6am - 8pm or 6pm once the time changes. Once they have had their restricted license for 1 year they can drive until 11pm or midnight (DD has only had hers for 6 months so I'm not sure yet).

It has been this way since I got mine in 1984.

Exactly why we bought the Jeep. It's solid steel and has two roll bars andi t sits up higher than the average mid-size car. I have a friend who races Jeeps off-road. He has had to date 17 rollovers. :scared1: Walked away from all of them with seat-belt bruises. He says,"Just remember to keep your arms inside the car and always wear your seatbelt.

This is the way GA laws are set up. Except they can't drive ANY unrelated person for the first 6 months.
