DD and I are going to spend the day at Epcot. It is going to be in the mid 90s with a heat index of over 100 degrees. DD refuses to wear shorts. She doesn't like her legs. I'd kill to have her legs! She has a great figure and terrific legs. I just don't get it. Do your teen daughters feel this way?

My daughter does the same thing and shes' 6!
She is on a capri kick.. everything is capris.

Well, she'll just get hot, and learn.

I dont have a teen daughter but I know how she feels. I was that way when I was a teenager. I would kill to have the figure I had back then. I have a feeling that the longer she is in the heat of Florida she will soon not care how her legs look. In the mean time maybe she will wear light weight capris?

what doesn't she like about her legs?
too pale? (get her some self tanner)
too jiggly? (I say screw it - and mine jiggle all the time! hehe)

will she wear longer shorts? like to her knees? (board shorts - you can find them at Old Navy (longer length 6"), or Pac Sun) what about gym shorts? (I got some COMFY ones at target for $10 - sometimes on sale for $7).

what about a knee length skirt? (or is that just the same thing?) I bought a CUTE linen one at Old Navy this weekend for $10...comfy too.

I'd let her wear whatever she wants if she's REALLY uncomfortable with her body (poor girl)...but bring a pair of shorts for her on the sly...she's gonna sweat in capris/pants/jeans whatever she plans on wearing!

have fun at EPCOT!

Ohhhh...as a new FL resident, she'd better learn to wear shorts!!!

I was that way too. I think I was about 16-17 when I went through it. I wish I could have the figure that I was so self-conscious about back then.

Oh well, live and learn. We(women) are so critical of ourselves, especially teenagers. I'm sure it's just a phase.

Yep, I've got a 14 yr old DD who is the same way! She says her legs are too long, too skinny and too pale. She won't use self-tanner.

I just let her wear what she wants and suffer the consequences. We were just in Disney World for 2 weeks in June and she wore pants almost the whole time. She does wear capris (made of denim) at times.

At her age, we have enough things that we butt heads about - this is one battle I choose not to fight.

I wouldn't wear shorts in high school. I was 5'5'' and probably weighed about 90 pounds and my legs were like sticks. (Believe it or not, I wished I had thighs! [Yes, my "wish" has come true!]) I went around for a couple of years in the summer in long pants. In fact, I remember the outfit that I wore to WDW when we went....it was a halter top and some very wide bottomed slacks.

I'd just have one conversation with her about the heat and what she packs and make sure she understands that you won't listen to any complaints and won't go on any emergency shorts runs when you're on vacation. Then I'd just let her be hot. Who knows? Maybe she won't be hotter than everyone else. I tend to feel hot or cold in my arms but not my legs...maybe she's the same way.

As short as the shorts are for teens nowdays, I can see why she doesn't want to wear them. Any girl with a bit of modesty would have an issue with wearing some of these shorts that I have seen, imo!

I also say let her wear what she wants and second the opinion to shop at Old Navy for some more conservative shorts that don't show as much leg.

I hate wearing shorts on a hot day. I feel the same about people who work out in those short acrylic looking shorts.

They sweat and stick all over the place and then the next person has to deal with it.

Gross!!! I will wear shorts if I am staying indoors but that is it.

I would just pack a pair of her shorts without her knowing and bring water. If she gets hot and starts complaining..you have something for her. If not..then hey..it is her choice.

Well, I'm almost 28 and I don't wear shorts. I weigh 115-120 lbs on any given day and my legs are okay. But I hate them. I'm too pale and besides that shorts are uncomfortable to me. I esp. hate sitting down and having my bare skin touch hot seats, wooden benches (splinters) and such.

I usually wear light pants or a light skirt.

I used to be the same way when I was in middle school and high school. I was always very tall and weighed about 130. I always hated the way my body looked, especially my legs, so I always refused to wear shorts to school. I wore shorts sometimes in the summer if it was really hot, but I'd only wear boy shorts. I eventually got over that phase when I got to college. I guess almost every teenage girl gets self conscious about something, thinking that everyone is just gonna be staring and laughing at them.

Dont have any dd's but ds can be as bad. We went also 2 weeks in June and he had to wear black pants. Not because he is worried about his legs but he is "cool" and I guess shorts werent/arent "cool". I just let him wear them, no need to fight over clothes.

Thanks, everyone. At least I know that she isn't the only one! She thinks her legs are too pale and she won't use any type of tanner. She is very pale, but she would look strange with really tan legs. She doesn't want to tan anywhere else because she wants to keep her skin the way it is. No freckles. She also says that shorts are uncomfortable. Oh well. She seemed fine today at Epcot. I, however, was melting into my shoes! Very warm!

Well I'm almost 20 and I hate wearing shorts! I've never liked wearing them and everyone thinks it's strange because I insist on wearing pants in the hot summer weather. I just feel uncomfortable showing my legs.
